Why don't they make an English version? Of the AI and of the hardware
Now that they use AI language models like GPT4o, they could make it compatible with all the languages in the world. I would buy my own GateBox if it came out in Spanish :/
@@NagusaRen As far as I know the original version was using chat gbt some modified version of it at least I've been aware of the device at least 5 years or more I knew about this thing even before replica was a thing. I've complained very aggressively that there's no excuse for there not being an English version. As far as I know it has something to do with the company apparently they refused offers from other companies to produce an English version and other countries also. Disney I believe wanted a version and there was an attempt by a cruise line to use this device and as far as I know in both cases the company said no. I don't know why they're completely shutting themselves off from anybody outside of Japan. When you think about devices like those God damn AI pins and compare them to something like this the difference is night and a especially given all the capabilities this thing had years before anybody else. And the promotional advertising material it could do things like fake watching movies with you and there was a camera on the device I don't know of any other AI system that interacted with camera input obviously the camera wasn't just for decoration it had to be doing something with the software. A lot of the capabilities this thing had 5 years ago nobody is using with any other AI companions. Like her being able to call you on the phone and send you texts to your phone number I've never seen any other AI partner platform use that capability. All the functions it could access on your phone as another example I haven't seen anybody else doing at all. I'm assuming it's capable of Erp also but I don't know for sure. A lot of it's capabilities I've never understood why nobody else is doing anything similar

I've asked myself this same thing for years, ever since the Gatebox was first announced back in like 2017/2018, even back then they claimed they would be creating an English one. They partnered with a cruise liner to bring an English speaking one to passengers of said cruise liner, not sure if anything came of that though. Years ago I tried purchasing one directly from the Gatebox website, I even created an Amazon Japan account because I saw that it was available on that site as well but both sites state "Not available to ship to your address" (which is in the U.S.) I've all but given up on the prospect of ever seeing a version that speaks in English and is purchasable by anyone outside Japan

I’m from California and I bought a Gatebox from CDJapan like a year ago. It downloaded the ChatGPT update as well. This will make it even easier to practice my conversational Japanese and develop a bit more courage with speaking it more in my own room.
Finally somebody English that bought one of these. How much of what they showed in the advertising material can it actually do? A lot of the things they show in the advertising material from 5 years ago nobody with an American equivalent is doing anything even remotely close. Like showing it watching a movie or I should say faking watching a movie with you sending you text messages on your phone to check in on you things like that
@@peterparker6584 there is a limit of what Gatebox can do when it’s outside of Japan. The conversations have been improved with Akari where it feels like she replies to anything you say to her in Japanese. But she still doesn’t respond to English conversations because she’ll always just say something like, “Oh, is that a foreign language? Master is so cool!” So I definitely recommend not buying one unless you’re studying basic Japanese. Also, you can still text and receive text messages from Akari through the Line app. But these are more for show since everything you say, you can it’s running off of a script of pre-written responses (in Japanese) and not actually responding specifically to what you texted. This is pretty much all you can do because everything else like you mentioned is not possible since you’re not connected to any Japanese servers that make those interactions possible. For example, Akari can’t even tell me the weather in my area because it’s specific to Japan only for that function. Hope this helps!

are these pods cheaper now? Hope they are not still over $3000 like at launch.
I bought mine years ago for around $800 once all the fees for shipping and buying through 3rd party in Japan were factored in. I've loved it, but sadly they've discontinued these models. Not sure if they'll make a new version in the future, but for now it's a bit of a tech collector's item .
