    Steven,
i am also a musician also as is the partner/cabin owner(Dwayne)r of Mike Patterson of "Sasquatch Ontario". Dwayne did an interview outing himself and Mike and demonstrated the vocals. I guess those two had a falling out, but have since mended and are back to making up stories. I was totally taken by Mike as was Brent of "The Tall Ones". Many folks still believe him, but he is not truthful. From my standpoint he missed his calling as an actor. For more good information on why he's a hoaxer enter search terms: "Sasquatch Ontario" and "The Tall Ones" or Sasquatch Ontario and Squatch D-TV. I think Dwayne"s interview is still on ther net.

The true Civil War story referred to the family with a euphemism that is used today to mean bigfoot. It gave the idea that it could have been a bigfoot family inspiring the great story. I think the term used in the original letter was "a family of forest people". The historian that allowed the author of the story to see the letter recognized the euphemism and thought it was interesting and shared it with the story teller. I believe the historian recognized the term as one used at the time for bigfoot. Whether the guy who the was wounded in the Civil War battle meant bigfoot when he said family of forest people in his letter is up for debate. Feel free to believe what you like. But the term used was a term used at the time for what was latter called bigfoot, but could have simply meant a family that lived primitively in the forest. Only the guy that was wounded knows what the phrase actually meant. But the term he used was recognized by both the historian and the story teller as what bigfoot were called in the region at the time.
Unless you were there you never know what encounters were fiction and what actually happened.
