Evan is a second generation meta human… his mother had the ability to absorb energy and this power was passed on to Evan, but it also caused his rapid aging. There is a great story in here somewhere.

My uncle who is a huge horror movie fan was unsure of Smallville. He wasn't a huge fan of superheros but found Smallville very entertaining and some episodes are quite dark and horror-esque. Smallville and Supernatural were my shows growing up. :)

Interesting fact: Writer Steven S. DeKnight said Ageless was supposed to be about kryptonite zombies. A kryptonite waste sludge would spill in a graveyard, creating the zombies, who'd then surround the Kent farm and Clark would be powerless against them. DeKnight then left to rewrite another script (Onyx?), and when he returned, he discovered the episode got changed to Clark and Lana finding a baby. Needless to say, would have been interesting to see the zombie episode instead. We would finally get a zombie episode in Season 9: Rabid.

There was an episode in Season 1 that touched on that more directly I believe. They're at the nursing home and a woman can see a person's future. Clark finds out everyone he loves will be dead as he finds himself standing in a cemetery of his loved ones. Lex finds out his future is covered in blood - particularly pointed that he has blood on his hands and everything he touches dies. A vision so dark that the old lady herself dies.
These themes were discussed much earlier in the show.

I feel like an idiot at this point. I don't hate this episode. I feel a great sense of sadness for Lana and Clark at the loss of Evan, but I appreciate pieces of the episode. I like that we see Clark turning to Lex in his time of need, that Lex was compassionate towards Clark and Lana when he delivered the news about Evan's potential fate. I found it interesting that once again, we see the duplicity of Lex in ending. He does something good, and then the bad Lex shows his side, too. I like the way Jonathan helps Clark navigate through "parenting." So, because I can see so many positive things, I don't hate the episode. And by the way, Chloe tells us that Evan's mom affected computers/electrical things when she was near them. I think Evan must have been the product of what Ryan referred to as a "super womb"

I saw the parallels between Clark and Evan especially when Evan tells Clark that he is not his dad. I love how y’all called Al and Miles. All of the actors who played Evan did a great job. The scene between Clark and Lex talking about fatherhood was powerful. Lex saying instead of children he plans on leaving a different legacy. Yeah it was great to see that Tom’s time on Smallville left an impact on him so he would perhaps unintentionally get a very similar dog as Shelby (Clarkie)… lol
This episode is NOT the worst episode of the series, it has redeeming qualities. The surrogate child that brings Clark and Lana together again, the scene with Lex where he’s suggesting heavily to let him keep the kid to continue experimenting on him (seemingly concerned but layer of I have to extract this science before he’s dead), the bonding with Lana as a mother figure and finally Clark is near a explosion and his clothing is damaged.
KarenIrra M was a fantastic guest however still not a fan of Bryce’s disembodied presence on the show.

I don't mind Michael's honesty but he must always keep in mind that Smallville was a show that kept so many people and families together. The title of this podcast for one was a bit annoying. Okay so to some it wasn't fantastic, but no need to piss all over it. Geez lol :) I remember when this episode aired. I loved it. I've been watching this show since I was 4. So, very unpopular opinion, but I've never really had a problem with Ageless. I'd probably give it half a rose even though I know it is one of the most hated episodes of the show. Is the concept a really silly freak of the week, sure. But we're talking about a show where an alien crashes to earth from another planet and has super powers and fights off mutants that are infected by meteor fragments. I suspend disbelief for a lot of stuff. What makes this episode good to me is that it shows what Superman is all about and that is working really hard to save someone against all odds. But in the end, he doesn't. And he has to live with the failure of it.

I have a soft spot for this episode. Baby Evan was the most precious and adorable baby, favorite "guest star" ever. I liked the call back to the pilot with Clark and Lana finding Evan in a field like Jonathan and Martha found Clark. Seing Clark & Lana bonding, taking care of Evan was heartwarming to me, the kitchen scene was the cutest! I thought it was interesting how Evan echoed Lana and Clark's experience as orphans and how this episode explored the idea of Clark having children in the future. The loss of Evan contributed to Clark's emotional growth a reminder that he can't save everyone. It also humanized Clark when we see him caring for Evan, struggling with his mortality and dealing with loss and grief.

Clark talking to his Dad for advice and this story does pull on your heartstrings at times... People forget that Smallville isn't just action and adventure... It also is a drama, fantasy and sci-fi... Granted, there are a lot of holes in this episode, no question... That being said, it was a pretty nice episode... Also, the confrontations between Lionel and Genevieve were very good... For me, I give it 🌹 (1 rose)... There have been way worse episodes than this, trust me... Hi Tom, Michael, and Ryan. Love the podcast. Tuning in from So. Cal USA 🇺🇸
This episode is 3 roses 🌹 for me.
I remember when this episode aired at age 7. A few things I’d like to mention about the episode.
First of all Tom/Clark connecting with a baby was so sweet 🥹 it made my heart melt. He’s so natural with children. In the hospital scene where Lana is holding him and she hands him to Clark and the baby stops crying 😢 was my favorite scene. Oh and the one where Clark is changing his diaper was hilarious 😂 Tom’s facial expressions are always on point for sure.
Previous episode “Blank,” centered more on Clark’s relationship with Chloe and what is in store for their future. While this episode was centered more on Clark and Lana and what will their future hold? Will they won’t they thing. Up to this point in season 4 there hasn’t been a ton of Clark and Lana scenes due to Jason dating Lana and Lois moving in with the Kent’s. It’s been an unusual year in Smallville for sure. Then again nothing is normal in Smallville lol 😂 Huge Chloe fan here and can’t wait to see you 3 watch her character continue to grow.
The scene on the Windmill in Chandler’s field was amazing 🤩 Evan telling Clark he wished he could be his father was so sweet. Clark indeed would make a great father. Clark’s moment with Johnathon and Martha on the porch asking them about how parenthood changed them was done exceptionally well it thought. That’s the biggest take away of this episode for me. Some people are meant to be parents. Others are not.
Lex trying to help them out makes me still hold on to the fact that Lex at this stage is truly trying to be there for his friends and to help them in any way he possibly can. The last scene with Lex was pretty chilling and leaves the audience wondering what Lex is up to. Does he still have ulterior motives? Are we still dealing with evil Lex from the episode Onyx? It made me wonder.
John Glover’s scenes with Jane Seymour was outstanding. It’s so cool to see 2 experienced and veteran actors in their element facing off with one another. There’s nothing like it. I loved it when Lionel said “what do you want me to do give him a good spanking?” I knew he poisoned her wine 🍷 the moment he didn’t take a sip. Clearly Jason and Genevieve underestimate Lionel. They have no idea who they’re dealing with. He’s already 10 steps ahead of everyone else. He just doesn’t let anyone know it.
These filler episodes might not be to some the most enjoyable but they have their place. They are meant to keep the audience engaged until the season finale where everything is revealed and everyone’s fate is set in motion. All the events that transpired this season make sense in the season finale where Clark will unite the stones of power which will eventually lead to the Fortress of Solitude. There aren’t many episodes of Smallville I dislike. There is one in 5x16 called “Hypnotic,” that I will give 3 bombs 💣 to. Acting was amazing but hated it. You will see why when you get to that point. I will give you a hint. It made me cry 😢 for weeks. Only Smallville episode I gave 3 bombs 💣
I really hope you gentlemen have Jensen and Jane Seymour come on the podcast before you finish the season. Even if they can only come on for 5 minutes I will be happy!
Take care guys and can’t wait to keep tuning in on the podcast! You 3 are awesome 👏 I didn’t see how this episode was bad. Sorry guys but I’m not one of those “everyone.” To each their own I guess.

In season 4, by the time Lois Lane had been introduced and Chloe Sullivan found out Clark's secret, the show should have started having Clark and Lana drift apart, not have them act like surrogate parents to a kid. It's redundant to keep putting Clark and Lana in situations that would, on another show, imply that they are "destined for each other," when the entire audience has known since season 1 that Lana was not going to be the woman that Clark would end up with. This again illustrates the mistake the show made in dragging Clana out too long, because the deeper you dig that hole, the harder it's gonna be to dig your way out of it later on.

I just rewatched this Smallville episode. In fact this is the episode my husband warned me about in advance. Yes, this was one of the worst. 😂 But now being a mom to 2 kids, 10 and under, I was emotional during the scene when Clark talks to his parents about if he can even have kids because he's an alien...that got to me (but then I thought of his future with Lois, and then the Crisis on infinite Earth's scene you did years later, where Clark and Lois have 2 kids, Clark is raising his kids like his parents did, and I was happy again.) Also, I have a tendency to feel things very deeply, even while watching movies and TV shows (one reason Im passionate about my observations and opinions.) I love Smallville despite a few bad episodes, and it's a comfort show for me. Poking fun of the episodes can be fun too. I do like your honesty Michael, and Tom is awesome. Keep up the great work guys - Talk Ville is one of the highlights of my week. ❤
