Sourdough Croissants

Apple Butter (this is a large recipe - I got 18 pints canned):
22 lbs cored, cut up apples
6 cups brown sugar
3 cups granulated sugar
7 tablespoons ground cinnamon
1 1/2 tsp salt
3/4 tsp ground cloves
15 T vanilla extract (yes, you read that correctly - don't knock it until you try it 😉)
1/2 T nutmeg
Core and roughly chop up apples (do not peel). Mix with all the spices, sugars, and vanilla. Simmer on low heat for 10 hours, stirring occasionally. Scoop the mixture into a blender and blend until smooth. Pour into jars and refrigerate or can. To can, I just wiped the rims of my jars with vinegar, then put the lid and ring on and baked at 225 for 30 mins.

So just to clarify, you baked your apple butter to seal your jars? I have canned (water bath & pressure) for years but never heard of baking to can. I’m interested in trying your recipe, just want to make sure I understand it correctly. Thank you. 💜
Correct! I'm sure there's plenty of people that would say it's not safe so I'm not telling anyone to do it, but it's worked for me with various canned foods for years 😊
I just love you videos! Those croissants looked absolutely amazing. I don’t have sourdough though, my husband is unfortunately not a fan (white bread only😂) Question- What temperature do you set your oven to can the apple butter in the oven and do you add water in the bottoms of the pan?

What comes to my mind regarding your question is to encourage you to personally evaluate your family’s goals. Consider why you originally began homeschooling, and what you envision for your family’s future, as well as your family’s needs for this year. Writing out your thoughts in each area will probably bring you some clarity. Most importantly, take time to pray about it. 🤍 I trust the Lord will help you make this important decision!

Looks soooo delicious!! We’re making pumpkin curry soup with sourdough and made 6 loaves of bread and croissants for the week ( froze some for busy homeschooling days for quick meals).
We just made to die for apple crisp for dessert the other day and apple cobbler last weekend with homemade Ice cream!

Those croissants are picture perfect!! The photo shoot - I love it! The girls including the puppy in their circle is so adorable. I love your new tradition of having a sleepover on the porch at the beginning of each season. Those are precious memories that the children will never forget. It reminds me of when my six sisters and I were young and lived on a dairy farm. Along with our mom and dad we all carried blankets and pillows to the hay barn and spent the night there. To this day we still fondly remember that night.

What do you mean by laminating?
Laminating is done with dough and butter, a process of folding and rolling out over and over to create many thin layers of butter. That’s what creates a croissant 🥐. Look up some tutorials too see the process.

However, there’s no way one person can do everything you do / can you perhaps be a little more forthcoming on help you might have, whether it’s around the house or with the children or on the farm. I think it helps to see a realistic picture because some people could really feel upset that they can’t do everything you do without realizing that you have a lot of help.
