I am not going to lie ever since I watch Jaws back in the seventies I have not been able to go in above my knees without watching for every shadow on the floor...

I have pushed myself to swim in tropical waters but it always worried me which is stupid because there are like 100 bites a year worldwide with millions in the water. That stupid movie scare a generation of people which caused the killing of hundreds of thousands of great whites. Steven Spielberg said he regrets making the movie

Never swim early in the morning, ever! And never at dusk. Both times are feeding and hunting times for sharks. Stay out of the water.

incredible. After all these years wetsuits are still black, you would think they would make them different colors like poisonous fish that the sharks won't attack.

100 yards off shore- Um - NOPE!

Sharks are always off the coast of California. Forget 100 yards, MANY are routinely only 100 feet from the shore

    • @Onlybhstrpes
      @Onlybhstrpes 7 місяців тому +2

@@LightsaberGoBrrrrrr we get that but sharks would MUCH rather you be 100 yards off shore, than 100 feet, as to not have so much competition when taking a bite out of ya.

This shark made a mistake and it got punched in the nose… it will never bite another human again. I wish it was a mammal instead of a fish so it could tell all his friends that open water swimmers are MEAN and bony and NOT FOOD LIKE SEALS ARE! Haha. But they are fish and they are dumber than cows and driven by smell and just because we are by food they can smell, and they bump us first because they don’t know what we are doing there and if they instinctively react because we bump like an injured seal and make a different vibration or rhythm or anything that can trigger them to bite something that confuses them or frightens them. They usually show up for dawn patrol in La Jolla and Blacks and Torrey but I only surfed up there before work and on my way to work there. I remember having the creeps real bad at Law Street one day and later hearing that there was a siting of a 25’ foot Great White by a professional diver close by and I trust my instincts and intuition more than ever before because I know how much sharks are not paying attention when they bite humans and the difference between a dumb 6 or 7 foot juvenile dumb move and the mother that might be protecting/babysitting or whatever the name of that instinct is called in a fish that is as big as a mammal with no other predators and they are the top of their food chain and we are not included but I do know that lots of people like to eat shark and don’t mind the nasty taste of mercury but they are the real top predators of sharks even though sharks have no clue about that. Haha

There was a surfer who was eaten by a Great White some years ago in Solana Beach not far from Del Mar. They migrate to Mexico through there.

This was treated amazingly by the news. Great coverage with scientists. Sharks don't bite people on purpose. Swim closer to shore and you'll be fine

In 1959, Sonny Pamperan was attacked by a Great White shark while abalone diving with a friend near alligator rock in La Jolla, just down the coast from Del Mar. His diving partner witnessed the attack and saw that Sonny was actually in the mouth of the shark, up to his waist. It is the only witnessed shark attack of a human in the process of being swallowed. The shark disappeared into the depths with Sonny staring up at the surface. His remains were never found.

Suggestion:: Try finding dna on the surfers wounds. Sampling the ocean, which tends to move around, is not your best source for finding dna from a shark that passed by.

Swimming 1 mile ,, hundred yards offshore in shark infested waters no thanks that’s ridiculous and now you see why😮 the lifeguard has a set of balls on him so just go swimming out there to save the guy. All lifeguard should have a damn jet ski to make it number one quicker and safer for everyone.

Del Mar’s shark attacks are increasing. Remember the long distance swimmer was bitten there as well.
I refuse to believe any longer that sharks mistake surfers or divers in black wetsuits for seals. There are 2 characteristics that definitely set us apart.
When a seal meets a shark what do they do?
When a human meets a shark what does he/she do?
    Seals run and people freeze.

I don’t know who needs to hear this, but if you drive on the interstate (freeway) you are at greater risk of being injured than if you swim in the ocean. But for those that won’t go in the ocean, I’m sorry. Living life afraid is a sad way to live.

Lived in that area back in 1977-78 and surfed/swam/ and boogie boarded DAILY. Was definitely in at dawn and dusk, but only saw dolphins, luckily! As an older person and after seeing all the videos, I'd never get in that water again like I used to. I'd be to paranoid to enjoy it anymore. Ignorance was bliss. Not even Jaws actually scared anyone I knew from going in the water.
