As an interior designer my biggest concern about design trends is when people choose things that are trendy instead of functional. Design your space to work with your lifestyle. No matter how good it looks or how trendy it is you will not be happy with it in the long run if it makes your life more complicated.
Hear hear! I've seen trends come and go, and have the experience of investing $$ in a trend and then being stuck with it until I could afford the next reno. White subway tiles, some version of Carrera marble, white shaker style cupboards, and mid tone oak flooring never go out of style, and are never so trendy that they get dated. Paint colour isn't as big an investment, but at some point I had to admit that repainting was a lot of work that I might not be willing to do, so I choose with energy in mind as much as fashion. Trends are relegated to cushions, vases and towels, if they appear at all. I made a lot of expensive mistakes to learn that.
As a Real Estate agent, in my area, if a house is painted in dark moody colors it takes twice as long to sell. Buyers seem to respond most to light, bright homey spaces. Room colors that compliment and give a cohesive vibe (without being saturated) throughout the house definitely seem to be the “thing” that wows buyers.
Neutrals won’t blow anyone away but they’re definitely more universally appealing. We painted our dining room a dark gray green and our realtor said it would be a no-go come selling time lol.
I feel that light and/or neutral colors, when marketing a home, present a "clean canvas" for the potential buyer to feel that he/she can go in and more easily customize the home to their own taste.
@@anothersiguywhen we remodeled our kitchen I wanted the cabinets stained very, very dark, my reason being that when we went out to dinner, the restaurants that we really enjoyed looked old world, dark colors, dark wooden pieces, beautiful chandeliers….and our formal dining room also looked elegant with dark stained furniture, as opposed to Whataburger orange, or any other drive through restaurant. My husband and I often had dinner in the formal dining room, when we weren’t using it our cat often took a nap at one end where she could catch some rays. Did I like her getting on the table, absolutely not, but I was and work and she was at home. So she did whatever she wanted when we were not there. 😊
Because those colors are impersonal and bland. You can wow with deep colors, but it speaks to personality and makes a statement and that's what scares buyers off. People want to feel like no one has lived there before, and that's why the white/pastel/neutral look sells faster
I appreciated how this video didn't just showcase trends but explained the reasoning behind each one. It's like having a personal interior designer giving advice, and the before-and-after examples made it easy to visualize how these trends can transform any living space.
I personally don’t follow trends when it comes to architecture and wall colors. It’s not financially feasible for us to change the big things every time the trends change. I still think a neutral paint color is timeless. I can always change the pillows, bedding, decor, etc to achieve color trends if I want.
That’s great for you. I agree about not following trends but enjoy finding inspiration for freshening pieces like pillows, throws, etc. Neutrals are timeless, but neutral is a broad spectrum not limited to white/cream/beige.
Grey made me crazy from the start. I watched many people embrace ALL GREY. All I could do was shake my head. All grey is definitely soul-less, drab and depressing, and the worst of the grey trend was #1, grey laminate flooring, #2, grey kitchen cabinets, and #3, grey solid surface countertops and backsplashes. I still see builders showing grey, grey, grey. It's just cringe-worthy.
Yes! My home is back in style too! I’ve hated that gray, gray, gray, white everything look as well. No warmth to it. Nice to see medium tone wood is back in.
...I was the same...no grey walls, etc. I like colour, but it's on Rugs, a few furniture pieces and in my Accessories... I don't like all that grey/ white/ and no colour ... it seemed depressive.
I had the brown and burgundy look for almost 2 decades. I have been on the neutral bandwagon since 2020. Love the neutral with a pop of color here and there.
Neutral are the best trends of all the times!!! It's Timeless and it's so Calming in the eye rather than bold colors and will be outdated in the future!!! More money to spend on repainting with new trends etc. Gold was on trends way back then now it's coming back again with a slight change. Neutral are the best choices 👌 🙌
The video wasn't just about fancy design jargon; it broke down the top trends into simple ideas and I found myself nodding along, thinking, I can totally do that in my home. Much Thanks!
Just my opinion, but I don’t care for the dark burgundy. It makes the room look too dark and oppressive to me. I think it will quickly go out of style. I think the English cottage style is gorgeous. ❤
Forget trend forecasting, this video makes 2024 interior design feel approachable! It breaks down each trend with clear visuals and relatable examples, giving you ideas whether you're a minimalist or a maximalist.
Right haha we just bought a new home and fully intend on wallpapering Only one wall in the master and family room… my brain can’t handle a whole room of a bold pattern lol
Kristen, I have followed you from the times you lived with your parents and was showing us how to update apartments or small spaces to today when telling us about trends. I just wanted to say from my point of view you are doing an excellent job. Wishing you a Happy New Year.
With a friendly presentation style, this video is like having a trendy friend guide you through the latest in home decor. The focus on making spaces both stylish and comfy is refreshing, and the host's enthusiasm makes it an enjoyable watch for anyone looking to update their living space.
I had white oak flooring installed thru out my small 100 y/o Craftsman home. Then I had a horizontal running burgandy bamboo grass-cloth hung in my living room. They compliment each other so well, I luv it.
This video is like a mini-makeover session; the diverse range of trends covered ensures there's something for everyone and I left the video with newfound inspiration to give my space a trendy touch.
I think it’s interesting how trends from the past come around again. You mentioned how English Country is now on trend. I remember in the 1980s how Laura Ashley’s English Country style was so popular. I decorated both my daughters’ rooms with her fabrics. It’s also nice to know that the beautiful antique furniture I inherited from my grandparents is fashionable again. I am not too trendy-I prefer timeless quality pieces .
You have climbed the ladder to one of my absolute favorite designers for 2023. I expect that your style and keen eye will be the one to watch for 24. Happy New Year!
Your videos have come such a long way, Kristen! Absolutely looove watching you giving insights on interior designing. Would love to see more tips and tricks on organization and design when there are infants and toddlers at home!
This video is a must-watch for anyone looking to update their home. The use of smart technology in decor and the focus on creating cozy, personalized spaces are genius. Feeling inspired and ready to revamp my living room.
Yes! The technology is something that I haven’t incorporated much and really want to explore. Warm, cozy, luxurious spaces are timeless. Our guests can relax, be comfortable and find a bit of the unexpected here and there.
Absolutely! My daughter painted her room that periwinkle purple that was all the rage in 2012. A year after she graduated I painted a gorgeous French gray and I am absolutely loving it!
I still remember it from 30 years ago and it made rooms feel so small. Almost 20 years ago we moved into a house that had painted a burgundy painted ceiling. It made the 8 foot ceiling feel like a cave. It was a nightmare covering it. 😅
Wowza, I was so ahead of these coming up trends! I had the most beautiful formal dining room with burgundy, blue and green. It was just so elegant. We loved it! I’ve also had the peach color and now…..blue! Doesn’t matter what the next trend is, I’m staying happy with the look I have now, plus I’m 80, I’m really just too old to care about any new trends. 😊
I stumbled upon this video and found it incredibly insightful; the presenter shared upcoming trends with a mix of expertise and relatability, making it easy for me to envision these ideas in my own home.
I’m so glad they grey and white, especially kitchens, are on the way out. I wasn’t a fan when they were in. I love the warm colours in all decor now so I’m happy.
Moving away from monochromatic schemes can invigorate spaces, wardrobes, and even web design, making everything feel more alive and dynamic. What will never get out of trend is paper flowers IMO
All trends cycle back every 15 to 20 years so this is not new actually. That is why you can actually keep what you like or have as it will be on trend once again.
Just found you a few days ago and must say how much I love your videos. Moving from a dry cabin in the woods to a 3 bedroom 3 bath house-- with a daughter and her foster baby, we have different styles totally and I’m learning so much from you.. Should be interesting on the design of the house… Thank you and love your videos. Your number 1 ……be blessed
I just did a natural stone backsplash and lvt flooring (easy upkeep) in my kitchen. Already had travertine counters so good to see that non glossy natural stone look is in. I just go with what I like in my home. Can’t keep up with all the new trends as I’d be broke! Next is a paint job on my main floor.
Watching this video felt like flipping through a stylish magazine for home ideas. The host's explanations are down-to-earth, and the visuals make it easy to envision the trends in my own space. It's a great source for anyone looking to update their home decor without the confusion.
I call my style bread and wine. I decorated my home in warm tones with a burgundy sunroom, library and dining room. The main living space is monochrome walls and sectional in khaki. I have light wood (Maple & birch). So I guess after 22 years, I am back in style 😂😅❤❤❤
This video is a goldmine of inspiration. The host's enthusiasm and the visual examples provided a clear roadmap for transforming my home, and I appreciated the practical tips that made it feel accessible for someone without a design background.
Kristen you are awesome! As always, thank you so much for all the tips, ideas, suggestions and advice. You're very knowledgeable about design and always have a wealth of information to share with us. Again, thank you, and happy 2024!
This video is like a sneak peek into the future of home decor. The engaging presentation style and practical insights provide viewers with a roadmap to update their living spaces with the latest trends, from color schemes to furniture choices.
I'm late to the party because I'm just starting focus/accent walls, but sure, by the time I get tired of it, the style will be back. That's the way design works: this is in, that is out, and this is in again. 😅
So much informative! It dives into the coolest trends for interior design and home decor in 2024, from embracing sustainable materials to introducing bold color choices, giving practical ideas to revamp your space.
Kristen, your photos are gorgeous and so helpful in visualizing color and decor. Thank you for your warm, friendly and professional touches in this presentation.I love those plum and burgundy colors even if I am not able to incorporate them in my home. Maybe I could settle for a change to my interior front door. What fun!
Painted my grey owl walls in alabaster last year. I am still totally loving my light and airy vibe. I may possibly use some greyed greens but will not be going with any plums or burgundy on my walls. I would find that depressing and tiresome very quickly!
The incorporation of smart home technology was intriguing, showcasing how functionality and aesthetics can seamlessly merge to enhance the modern living experience. Kudos Kristen!
I painted my entry way a deep gray plum, well over a decade ago. I loved it but at that time everyone was on the gray bandwagon. I’m happy I don’t follow what everyone is/was doing. Now my colors are natural elements….wood…stone…brick…clean colors, none of that will ever go out of style.
I am using natural stone & wood in my remodel & I love it. I am glad to hear burgundy & plum are the colors for 2024… they go perfect with my color scheme in my home.
Of necessity and and from a practical point of view, we have stayed with white walls since we have neither time nor money enough to have painting done professionally very often. But that's okay since we have done many other upgrades over the years, love our home and neighborhood and are debt free. So at this point in our lives, we love what we've collected over time and our personal style. I do have lots of blue and white in my home and feel it will always be timeless! This was a lovely video, Kristen. Thanks for keeping us "au courant" on the latest! Happy New Year from San Diego! I've been watching you for a long time now! 💙
Just caught this video and it's packed with cool ideas! From vibrant color choices to cozy, personalized spaces, I'm stoked to try out these trends in my home. Super helpful for anyone wanting a stylish upgrade.
Loved watching this video gave me so many great ideas for sprucing up my living space. I appreciated how the host explained each trend with examples and tips for incorporating them into different rooms. It's definitely inspired me to get creative with my home decor.
Interesting! This is a fantastic guide for sprucing up your living space. The breakdown of trends is not only informative but also presented in a way that feels relatable. Whether you're a decor newbie or a seasoned enthusiast, this video gives you the lowdown on what's hot for 2024.
Have truly enjoyed your videos in 2023 and all the great decor information and ideas. Looking forward to following you in 2024. Wishing you a Happy and Healthy New Year Kristen!! Cheers 🥂
The video was a pleasant surprise. The trends are diverse and the video offers valuable tips for creating a trendy and cozy home without a major overhaul. I'm excited to try out some of these ideas in my own space.
Love the monochromatic rooms the best!! Not scattered looking. I see so many beautiful home reviews with so much STUFF, like being in a decorating store.
This is a great guide for staying ahead in home styling. The video's visual examples and the host's commentary helped me understand and embrace the upcoming trends, making it a valuable resource for anyone looking to give their home a fresh and contemporary look.
Our homes have always been Eclectic. We've traveled the world and have lived in three different countries. Things that you love, display and that are different are always a conversation starter...where did you get that? As an artist with a BFA, I've always been ahead of the so called trends. I love creating and making statements with my DIY projects. If I see something instead of buying it I use it as an inspiration and make it myself. FIY my BFA degree is from the University of Manitoba many years ago when Pierre Trudeau was PM of Canada. I pick up words and pronunciations that indicate to me you're from Canada too as is my wife.
This home decor trends is a game-changer. The design tips are practical, and the visuals make it easy to see how to incorporate them into your own home. Feeling inspired and ready to give my living space a trendy update
I don't even know how you ended up on my feed but I'm so grateful 😊 as I'm about to embark on a renovation/decoration journey for my mother's house. I love your way teaching and you've just earned yourself a new subie🥰
Could you post some ideas on how to work with chocolate brown? I have a chocolate brown couch from crate and barrel and I never know how to make the living room look cohesive. Thanks! Love your content!
I watched you on making kitchens look exspensive I have never set and lists to someone who was so easy to listen too But to also have so much information in a short time Wow You are a natural at what you do Thank you for caring about others home I am a fan And your info is so needed thank you
I really enjoyed this video! It gave me so many fresh ideas for sprucing up my space and the examples shared were super inspiring. Now I'm excited to give my home a trendy makeover.
Just watched this cool video. It gave me awesome ideas for sprucing up my place this year. From trendy colors to unique decor styles, this video is a must-watch for anyone wanting to stay in the design loop.
Kristen, thanks for a very nice video. Please, make a video about how to combine colors in interior, bold colors, muted colors. I like colorful interior design. I watched many videos of luxury appartments in NY, Europe. Most of them colorful, with characters:) But it is not easy to create rather than monochromatic
HAPPY NEW YEARS EVE EVERYONE🎉♥ Thank you for spending another wonderful year with me!! I can't wait for some incredible new projects in the new year!!
Happy new year's eve ❤❤

Great points. I used to go trendy until I went more eclectic and thrifted style.
This was the first thing I thought of with the porous counter tops haha

I feel this same point can be made about fashion
Totally agree. But it’s nice to see what’s coming out and just get inspired! But at the end of the day you also have to consider budget!

I'm with you. I couldn't use a color like that on a large scale. Accents would be fine.
I agree. I wanted a darker room but ended up using a softer color of brown. Soft brown rabbit is a beautiful way for a softer, darker room.
I find that burgundy looks rather depressing
What's worse is someone else posted that all black kitchens were gonna be in. I'm definitely not into the California charred look.

Painted my grey owl walls in alabaster last year. I am still totally loving my light and airy vibe. I may possibly use some greyed greens but will not be going with any plums or burgundy on my walls. I would find that depressing and tiresome very quickly!
Classic design and colors are always best.
neutrals like white is timeless so great choice! you can always bring in colors in paintings, rugs ect.

Happy new year! And May God bless you and your loved ones!!🌹
Thank you for everything this past year ❤❤
Our homes have always been Eclectic.
Plums and Red Plums are beautiful.
This home decor trends is a game-changer. The design tips are practical, and the visuals make it easy to see how to incorporate them into your own home. Feeling inspired and ready to give my living space a trendy update

Blue, burgundy, plum. 80’s revisited.
I tend to steer away from trends because they date ur home faster I prefer the timeless style
So glad to watch this , Tx so much.
You are REALLY good at what you do. Thanks for the wonderful videos!
