The name of the game on this one is aggressive bite. What better way to get there than with a RAT-flavored distortion? The 1981 DRV has got to be my favorite distortion in this class. While its lineage is distinctly rodent, the DRV offers a smoother and cleaner approach to achieve gain. The aggression is all still there, just a little less rough around the edges. The bonus with the DRV is the preamp. When you run this thing totally clean or at an edge of breakup setting you get a warm and balanced tone. It seems that the DRV can be used in almost any scenario in our studio, so I keep it right on the desk. :)
All guitar sounds are the 1981 Inventions DRV going into NDSP Archetype Nolly.

Great song, great tone, man. Never managed to get that kind of tone from RAT alike pedals. You did a great job.
Thanks so much! I actually have come around to RAT style stuff a lot. One of my favorite things to do is double track rhythm guitars on one side with a RAT style pedal and on the other side with an overdrive. Big, wide rhythm sound.
@@ediththeband Hey, thanks. I'll try that. You panned them 100%. each side? Do you record through an amp or using IRs?
@@dektrimusic yes, I do l/r panning on rhythms. I run my pedals into Neural DSP Archetype Nolly. I have a preset I made that is basically just the Marshall style amp at a clean/edge of break up sound. I tweak that a little bit based on what pedal I’m throwing into the chain. You could also use different amps/irs on each side, same principal. I was always trying to achieve this using different guitars but ran into issues with them being intonated differently. So now I like to use the same guitar and change the rest of the chain.
@@ediththeband Thanks again. Such a valuable information, man. I really appreciate, very kind of you.
