The passion you show in your videos for landscape photography really inspires me, especially when I feel like I’m in a bit of a funk. I really like how you approach your woodland photography. Thanks for the great videos Henry!
I’m not a photographer, but I watch your videos for meditative purposes. The colors, sounds and sometimes imaginative scent of moss is so nice and calming for someone living in the concrete jungle.
Beautiful work. I heard it said once, "Leave a place for the birdies to fly through." I could feel the depth of the woodland in your photos. Thanks for sharing your enthusiasm.
Dude I enjoy your landscapes, capture the transition from woods to mountains is a real winner
Great photos Henry. One thing I would say is to try lowering your camera on the tripod to get lower shots of woodland, leading the viewer's eye into the shot with foreground elements. Some of your video b-roll has really nice shots, like the one at 1:48, which would look great as a photo. Also, at 12:55, try lowering the camera down towards the stream, with wide-angle attached, and try a shot leading up the stream. Perhaps it's a habit of yours to leave the camera at eye level, as you tend to often shoot bigger vista and landscapes, but I feel that woodland shots can sometimes benefit from a more intimate approach by getting lower and leading the viewer into the forest. No idea if you do this, as we only see a few shots per video, but great shots nonetheless.
Hi Sam thanks so much mate, and I really appreciate your suggestions regarding composition - that's definitely something I'll consider when I'm next in the woods! Cheers for the continued support my friend
Excellent work yet again Henry, glad your doing what you do and throwing out all that enthusiasm 👍
Been following you for a while now and you have a good eye for woodland images , keep it up.
Hey, great video, really enjoyed this one. I really liked the shot at around 13:40, it really drew me in!
There is always something so calming and so laid back about your videos, l love watching them, thank you :)
Great photos.. the mist makes it look amazing..
I liked that one at 11 min. Three trees either side of the mid focal point but opposite triangle shape from one another, the fog and the atmosphere it adds is gorgeous
3rd shot was superb. You had a good day!
Every image was amazing and my frnd i just love your videos. They are true and real
One thing I have not often done is take my camera out into the rain on purpose. I think after watching this that I need to bite the bullet and make the effort. I bet you could also sell snow to eskimos! Keep em coming Henry. 😁
Henry the image at 13.30 is stunning mate, beautifully done, thanks for sharing.
Nice work mate.. 👍🏻 the woodland is a cruel mistress but the more we get to know her, the more she reveals to us. 🙏🏻
just beautiful,thank you Henry
1st shot my favourite. It is woody, earthy smell, solitude, peaceful and full of texture! The type of thing I'd have framed on my living room wall. 2nd I found it hemmed in somewhat but I wonder what I will think of it in a couple of months time. 3rd I like that too though I would have got more of the stream in the foreground and got lower down.
Whilst you were moving around there were some great 'scapes there, have a deco at them.
Oy don't let your camera get too wet!
Stay safe ☺️
Nice vlog Henry..your enthusiasm is very uplifting..What a fantastic woodland you have found there, it has all the elements you would look for to make some great photos..love the first two images ..
Definitely noticed a change in the images. They seem more clean with less clutter and the edges look better without bits being cut off or intruding from the side and I must say the changes are all for the better. Great images and I ain't going to pick a fav as I like them all. Great vlog Henry. Take care and stay safe.
I can easily imagine many of us not bothering to venture out in such damp wet weather, but just look at the amazing compositions the humid conditions created and the results you captured wow, no wonder you were so enthusiastic about your day !! I’m learning all the time from your vlogs which I really appreciate and thank you for, (calendar pre ordered) notice you didn’t use a lens hood in your compositions that day and I wondered why ?
Another enjoyable video Henry, very nice woodland area. Love the stream image. Thank you for sharing and take care.
Great video Henry ............. looks like a fantastic woodland 📷👍
Henry, for me that first photo was out of the top drawer .. I can't stop looking at it. Keep up the good work, you're an inspiration
Great photo, great VLOG, a lot of depth in that shot!
Beautiful images. Enjoy the new iMac.
Excellent vlog Henry superb image's and what a find that woodland is magical.
Great video Henry, looks like a beautiful woodland that you have found there, lovely photos too.
I liked the darkness of the photo with the stream, really makes you lead through to the light and accentuates it more 👍
wonderful video henry well done
I got out today , headed to a local woodland park .I cant tell you this woodland photography is dam hard . I was a bit rushed about need to sit and work out the shot more . Henry shooting cars at tracks is a lot easier
Great video love ypur work .
Brilliant as always mate.
Excellent video Henry and equally great images. Much enjoyed it!
Great advice as usual Henry, I’ll be out in the next day or two, framing my shots with a ‘ceiling’ & ‘floor’ I’m sure this this is going to look great now with some Autumn colours beginning to come through. Got my calendar from you the other day! Mint mate! Top drawer!!
That looks a great location Henry and can see why you have this one marked for return visits as I can imagine seasonal changes will make this a gift that keeps giving judging by the cracking images you posted in this episode
great video Henry , Thanks for the tips
Another super video Henry.
Nice one mate. Just found an ancient woodland within 30 minutes of home and loving it. Need some mist to really make it work! True what you say re traceing your footsteps ! Enjoyed your first image👍
Congrats on the new toy. you deserve it
Really Really amazing photos I loved congratulations
I used to live in the New Forest and can attest to how difficult it is to control the composition in a forest and create some kind of structure.
What a beautiful woodland Henry, thanks for the tip about sort of framing the composition. And as for the photographs I like all three of them. :-)
Really awesome ❤️
Nice one mate. Like the 3rd pic a lot..
Great vlog. Just discovered your channel. I love woodlands, too. Totally agree with you. Retracing your steps is such a good thing among the trees. Everything looks so different.
I love your videos man. Getting out there in all those elements is not anything you see much on UA-cam. Love your woodland pictures. I find it very difficult myself so your tips are appreciated. I think that last shot was epic. Very mysterious. Personally I would try to brighten up that stream of water a bit then the eye realy leads you in the picture. Grt guido
Top photo's pal looks great in them wood's keep up the good work mate 📷 📸 📸 📸
Loved the photos and the place you were in. thought I saw a white walker in the last photo. lol amazing
When you took the first two images i was shouting at the screen for you to take an image of the red ferns on the hill immediately behind you ( i presume they didn't look as good real time as they did on the vlog); the 2 images were ok but mate, the 3rd image is a portfolio image and the best woodland image you have taken. what a shot!
Woodland really is the most difficult speciality of landscape photography. You really do it justice though. Impressive images. I actually like the second one best. Thanks
There is no way I could have walked by that last tree you pointed out. I hope you go back soon. I’d love to see what you can do with it.
Sound is really cool and Refresh
Love the second one 👌
Great compositions, very much professional. 👍👍👍👍
3 beautiful images Henry particularly like the pano image, looks like your enjoying your woodland photography 👍👍
All great images, i had been thinking about the “looking behind” to see other images, when you started returning. Learning thru experience and sharing with others helps the “community”learn as well, keep up the great work.
I can totally relate to the woodland scouting, great to find good locations, I was thinking the same thing recently. Another great vid 👌
Lovely video! You have inspired me to use my 55-300 again, thank you!
Lovely photos Henry!! Elterwater and the surrounding area is probably my favourite location in the lakes and spent many a night in the Britannia Inn sampling the local ales. Hope your enjoying the new iMac. Thought of one myself but couldn’t decide so I’ve stuck with my iPad Pro and bought affinity photo and an Apple Pencil
What a find your not gonna fail in that woodland that's for sure. Enjoy your new gadget bud. 💪
Once again brilliant Photos. I like the way you say loop your walk I must do mine the other way next. But I do stop a lot and just look round because you never know what's behind you. I have got myself a iMac to for the same reason you not be dissapointed.
A JACKPOT it is mate 💰💰💰💰
Top drawer! Quality as ever 👍👍 ‐T 🙂
I'm so jealous of your woodlands you have there, here in the Pacific Northwest of the US, most of our woodlands (at least the ones near my home) are extremely thick and almost impossible to walk through. Keep up the fantastic work!!
Will have to find me woodlands to photograph as well again, this video is very inspiring! Great pictures, I think the first one is my favorite even though it's hard to choose!
First image Henry, Top Drawer! Great vlog as usual Henry another great woodland find for you. Hope you enjoy using your new your imac.
My favourite picture was the last one.... class as always....look forward to watch your videos mate.
Ps. received your 2021 calendar this week. Wow lovely pictures.
Keep up your great work.
For future reference you had a great image there at 1.48 that really caught my eye, nice lighting and darker tones mixed together. Great video once again. Keep it up 😉
Cheers Sean, I'll definitely remember that spot!!
First time viewer here.
Glad to have found your UA-cam.
Have you every experienced loss of sight, what I mean is you can't find that special shot to take whilst standing in an amazing place like this woodland. A total loss of inspiration, if so what did you do to fix it. Thanks
Beautiful second picture
Great video again Henry, loved the composition and images taken. No matter what the weather you deliver the goods. Especially liked that you used pano in woodlands, something I’ve never thought of or tried! Keep it up mate!
mate Another killer vlogg and images. The image at 13.32 was outstanding man.
Very inspirational, Henry. What is the name of the music you play at 10:20. I notice you've used this on previous videos. I just love it! Oh, please go back and photograph that twisted oak you show at the end of the video.
I’ll have to double check mate!!
Henry, great work - I love your enthusiasm and your work. Very infectious! Could I suggest you have a look at Crag Lough and Steel Rigg on Hadrian’s Wall sometime? It’s got so much - all inside a mile!! Anyway, keep up the good work!
Thanks for the suggestion Stephen 👍🏼
For that first shot, what made you decide to do a pano and not a wide-angel shot and then crop it in post?
Great video as always Henry! the last shot is stunning! regards from Chile, cheers 🍻
Beautiful images Henry, can I ask if you know Siloth at all, m going up there for 4 nights early next month with my wife and dog but never been and want to at least try and get some half decent shots?
As much as New Zealand is beautiful I still miss those woodlands in the UK's best National Park...the awesome Lake District.
Nice Nice
Love it , great shots again mate, I do a lot of pike fishing in the lakes , I'd love to hire u for an early morning photo shoot , mist covered lake with my set up rods out etc, that be cool , is that something u could possibly do , love some great shots on rydal, cheers
Hi Steve, thanks a lot mate. Yes absolutely, drop me an email and we can organise something!
Ya bugger. Im watching it again. Lol. To good
How does the D7200 hold up in the rain Henry
Always been great for me mate!
I really picture number 3.
Henry, This is a coincidence, just watched your latest on UA-cam, right at the end you say you got your self a iMac, well I got myself one on Tuesday this week, from eBay, unfortunately this computer does not update to the latest OS ,it’s a 2011, in other words it’s to old, I got charged £799, which is a bit of a ripoff, I complained but he said I should of know before I bought it, I took it for granted that I would be able to update to the latest OS, it’s a shame because it is a very powerful computer, 3 tbite, 16 gig, it’s a mega pice of kit, I just thought I would contact you to let people know to be careful and check everything before they go ahead and purchase ,especially off eBay, he gave me £35 back when I contacted him, but I still feel I have been ripped off. Great photography as always.
Thank you Heny, at 77 years old you inspired me, never done woodlands, going to give a go, via theoldgit :~)
Stop it! Just stop finding places and images like these. You make the rest of us look like chumps. I hate your excellent approach and results. Fall in the wet rany day. Awesome. I never managed to capture that when I lived in Scotland. You make me homesick. Keep up the great work henry.
No this is not a negative review lol. Far from it.
Haha thanks so much Simon!! I'm very lucky to live in such close proximity to these amazing spots :D
Woodland is hardest to photograph for me, it just feels like without a mist the images look too dull :/ also if there is no rain, the leaves are full of pollen or dust and the color just doesn`t look right in the images, very reflective... :/ also focal lengths that you use is very dependable on the woodland how old it is, how spacious it is between the trees, how many young trees and bushes there are etc..
The first picture is not the style i like.
Very inspiring and sage advice thanks!
