This was an epic masterpiece and by far one of the greatest films of all times.

The documentary was filmed back in 77 at the same time the book was released but not aired until 1979

Wizard of Oz sounds like story of a unique style stomac and a Allen Jones with show show boat 🚢 1936 or after later before 1939

There was another: W.C. Fields! The dialogue, when you look at it, was very likely written with him in mind. But he wanted too much money, so Frank Morgan got the part-- and made it his own! 🙂
I can't picture Victor Moore, somehow.

This is such an interesting documentary. I’m curious though as to the narrator’s point concerning “writing by committee”. You would think it would have the potential of producing some mega-creative content, even help it to appeal to a larger audience. Does it really lose its narrative flow with an array of writers? Anyone have any input as to why it would hinder a piece’s potential? Additionally, aren’t all edited pieces essentially multi-authored in a sense? Just curious.

Were is Bert Lahr and Judy Garland in this interview?

    • @KevinButler-m9r

Sadly,Judy passed away in the summer of 1969 and Bert left us in 1967..which is why they were not interviewed for this tv documentary about"The Making Of The Wizard Of Oz"..Chrus Williams.

It's a crime that Jack Haley and Ray Bolger earned $3,000 per week while "pudgy" Judy Garland earned only $500 per week. Only Toto earned less. That is just stunning. I realize she was only 16, but still, she's the main character.

It's not a crime, it was perfectly normal. Under the contract system, people who had been in the business longer got paid more. Judy had only been with MGM for three years. Besides, 500 bucks is a lot of money, even now!
