- From the 1979 LP Never Buy Texas From A Cowboy...must have Funk.."n'Joy"..
I give full credit to the artists for the song used in this video. I do not claim any of the material to be my own.
Support the artist, by buying the record.
Detroit...Henry Ford c/o 1980!!! This is one of those JAMS that will still be hot after 30 years! My 12-year old doesn't want to admit it, but she likes this tune. She would never tell her friends.
I have this in my iTunes library after searching literally for YEARS. Thank God for the world of digital uploads. This is in my "top five" favorites from back in the day. What a funky-ass song to dance to! This sucker takes up 17MB! Worth EVERY bit!
My favorite song by the Brides...........Should have went to #1 in my opinion....
This is straight back in the day funk....love it
This take me way back in the days. It was bad song back then and still is. I've been a big fan of P-Funk eversince my sister turn me on to them growing up. I had the chance to see the P-Funk All Stars perform in Germany when I was station in the military. George Clinton you're the man and I still have my sunglasses on.
OMG, I cannot believe this song is on utube....ahhh "you will be happy go lucky"....OMG I LOVE THIS HERE SONG!
From Big Larry and Funkmaster Ushy Eron (my brother...RIP) . Ushy turned us all on to the funk and we are all eternally grateful. From The Bijou, to Madcap Molly's, to Mad Connection, to Pizzazz, and to Starz, and all in between and thereafter...keep on funkin'.. Ufunk Productions and you know..." I still got to learn how he says BABY like ' at there!" :-)
The 12" single version of the title track was the first notable Funkadelic song to feature Mike Hampton on lead guitar. One of his most celebrated performances is the lead guitar solo on the Funkadelic hit single "(Not Just) Knee Deep" from 1979, as well the title track to the Brides Of Funkenstein's second album Never Buy Texas From A Cowboy.
me and my skate fam rock to this every sunday night @ skateland >>>>i grew up off this tune
I can NOT BELIEVE this is on youtube!!! PROPS to you man! thank you thank you!!
This is exactly why old heads can't get too into the new music "fluffy grime"...they forgot the main ingredient PFUNK! Premium Funk that is. Thanks for The
Brides #1 song and now I must get to it ;- )

dfunk's all time favorie funk jams!!
Study to this in my Dorm room at Central State University back in the Day.
Well that is illuminating. I always thought it was Bernie on the synth. Wow!
@TheDigitalGuy1 Cool! Thanks Bruce.
Good old school, I had the 45.
Detroit Classic
I have been looking for a downloadable version of this song..IMPOSSIBLE. We had a local DJ here, who would pay for the radio time to play this song once a month so people could record it. It was like a mini event. He would announce to people to get their tapes ready, the date , time and all. God..I want this on my I-POD so bad.
@1222vester
Due to the fact, youtube won't allow videos over 10 minutes for regular accounts. I had to make it 2 parts.
Part 2 is listed below in the video response.
we used to pic up mojo all the way up in saginaw on a clear night.
@MusiciansRule07 ....Joy Road!!!!!!!!!!!!! What up doe!. This is the anthem from back in the day. Chillin' @ Belle Isle or Edgewater park!! or in my own hood - CODY FIELD! Home of those '85 Comets... I'm feelin' you fo sho!!
That is Michael Hampton from start to finish. Eddie Hazel is on the track called "I'm Holding You Responsible".
COOLEY HIGH Fenkell rd. stand up Detroit !!!!!!!!!
This is exactly why old heads can't get too into the "fluffy grime" (depends on who's hot at the moment pop or rap) because they forgot the main ingredient FUNK! lol...I love the slide show.
@TheDfunkadelic Thanks but Eddie was credited for the album. I could've sworn he AND Michael were on it though.
This is raw. Knee deep was like microwaved popcorn.
R.I.P. Eddie Hazel on the guitar.
@MrWjd47 Best parts: 2:45, the screaming lead at 3:10, , the feeling of going down a rollercoaster at 7:41 and the return of the girls at 8:24(who is that screamin lead?) the harmonies (like at 9:20)...heck, the whole dang song is a revelation!!! This song rivals "Knee Deep" as a classic anthem.
No I would have loved that!!!
*SNIFF SNIFF* OH MAN THAT'S FUNKY!!!
could someone PLEASE POST "Didnt mean to fall in Love" & "I'm Holding You Responsible" from this same Album, the wicked vocals and Guitar in "I'm Holding".... Mike Hampton Kills!!
@janrcl
I remember the Electricfying Mojo. He was the man at 10:00 pm in Detroit and I lived in Flint.
@patsyrays1stborn Agreed! Bernie was the Funky backbone. He was in a Funky place all the time. For George Clinton to have never picked up a single instrument....Bernie Worrell (and others) made him look like a GENIUS! Well, actually he was...in his own Funky-Madness World. He was genius enough to en-Vision the entire P-Funk storyline and then assemble the cast of characters he needed to make it happen.
I have been looking for this for about 20 years I really didn't know who it was. I head this though the floor for about 10 years and i would fight my brother because he would not turn it down. thank you to who ever Put this on the the net.
LOVIN THIS SHIT......
like he did with every song he ever played
@ThaGrooveallegiance Id have to go back and check the track listing for Fuzzy's LP - Probably most if not all of them... on Eargasm, Disco Lady for sure...
@mizike06 the meaning is so "deep" yes, i have played it at least 10 times a day since i rediscovered it last week!!
WLBS DETROIT Mt, CLEMMENS stand up Detroit!!!!!!!!
@davelip007 I remember and I was there at a Average White Band concert at Cobo Hall. The Electricifying Mojo was the man. Now I understand they have taped music programs and I don't listen to the top 40 anymore. Music just has not gotten better it was gotten worse.
I feel you. This was a jam! Did you see them when they were on The Scene on ch. 62? (Murray-Wright HS '85)
bootsy collins on bass ssssssssssssssssssssing
also, thats mike hampton(from cleveland) on guitar.....eddie hazel quit,and went to jail for a year...thats why george hired mike!
That's Blackbyrd McKnight on guitar
the break was so fonky on this , perfect for pop lockin back in the day ....but i could never make out the solo. mike or black byrd?
@JPfromFlint Yes - that's me - Bruce Nazarian
@BabyBeastie1 AND ONE OF BADDEST
Only that's not Mike Hampton. It's Eddie Hazel.
Been trying to find this jam with no luck. Anybody have any leads?
Mike Hampton
EDDIE HAZEL TEARS THIS SHIT UP!!!!
Did this classic P-Funk jam get any airplay in Detroit? As usual NYC never bought any Texas.
@MusiciansRule07 AN I THOUGH I WAS THE ONLY ONE!!!
Who is playing bass on this song? Does anybody know?
if anybody cares, thats dennis chambers on drums....i was in 11thgrade when this came out!!! this was the jam......all you wac ass rappers take note!! jray
This is my songgg!can you post didn't mean to fall in love.
Yea It's Mike playing not Eddie
music
0:38 WTF!?!?!?!?!?!
Bernie Worrell on the bass synth. Definitely ain't Bootsy.
I think that you got caught up in the moment for a second there. I love this song, all 15 minutes of it, but you better not be trying to imply that it's in the same league as "(not just) Knee Deep". Knee Deep has a better concept, better production, a better guitar solo (one of the best ever) and is a clearly superior song.
