- We reminisce and visit the site of the old Fitzhugh Pub, also known as The Corner Post and now known as The Fitz converted into modern flats found on Milton Road, a goal kicks length from The Dell.

Had a mate who lived in a flat on opposite corner. Used to get train from Aldershot, walk to pub, then straight back in after game. Stay in until early evening then on piss around town, but back for last orders and lock in. Could also get early drink on a Sunday by knocking on side door.
I was 16 years old when I went to my first Southampton game at the Dell , my youngest Uncle took me as I was at Salisbury College studying for the City and Guilds Hotel and Catering Industry, as my parents were stationed in Northern Ireland for two years as my Late Father was posted there for two years. I remember a pub walking to the Dell , it had a grassed area in front of it . I've found it on Google earth, it is now called the Winston Hotel . P.S. I was at Wembley for the FA cup Final in 1976 brilliant day. Come on you Saints.

In the late 70s, I was working away from Southampton but when I came back for home games at the weekends, I would sometimes work the lunchtime shift at the Fitzhugh and my pay would be a ticket to the game.
