THANK YOU SO MUCH!!! We have two that someone planted within inches of the front door step of the house we bought. The fronds have literally taken over the front porch! We've been "scooting" around them for years because we didn't want to kill them and we were told they couldn't be moved. This video is such a godsend. Thank you for taking all the time you did to record, edit, and post it, showing not only the final move, but all the work and hurdles you encountered. I really appreciate this! :)

10 years on, I hope you and the Sago are maturing well.

Sadly, only one trunk remains. We were forced to move the cycad during peak leaf emergence - if we could have chosen the time of year, the transplant would have been more favorable. But we had to work within the required timeline of the client.

Yes. At maturity Sago Palms are a zone 7b plant surviving temperatures down to 5°F. As cold hardy as the Windmill Palm.

Extremely helpful video. Very clear and straight to the point. I have some "pups" that I am going to attempt to transplant. Thank you for this!

Thank you for this video. I have one that is planted right up against the house. My grandparents did all of their shrubbery that way. Silly and unhealthy to water your plants and house at the same time. Mine is not as big as yours, despite the age, because it is not in an ideal location. Hope yours did well and so will mine.

Dig Cycad up...place in hole you dug. Cycads are incredibly tough plants and can be moved with very little root ball and they still are fine. Of course the less roots you remove in digging it up the faster it will recover.

Great Video. Cycads are amazing. Transplanted many. A solid shank heavy sharpened shovel is best. I bet this Cycad is close to 20? years old?

We have one that’s a bit bigger than yours. How did yours handle the move? Can a plant that big be divided or would that kill it, I would love to try and separate ours, but I’m scared to mess with it this year, coming out of the Texas deep freeze of 2021, I’ve cut it totally back and yesterday I noticed growth out of 5 of the 10 or so plants that are bunched up together.

It will survive........i would have thought removing some of the pups would have aided the transplant a little better.......but good job........nice to see some common sense by creating the hole first where the cycad was to be transplanted.
