I love this song, this music video, the album it's on, the year it came out...this entire group!!!! 😎 Thank you Bud, Eric, Marshall, Miguel, Ikey, Ras, Opie, Tim, Miguel, Jack, Todd...all of you for keeping the Sublime sound going after Brad's death! 🙂
I never realized they made a vid for this. What's funny is I remember buying this album ,September 11 2001, the day it came out, even after the buildings had fell. I still went out and bought it @ Sam goody or something like that, an old-timey records were basically, but we had to physically go out and buy our music LOL
I grew up in south Florida and this song really reminds me of my youth, growing up as the token white boy and all the bullshit me and my friends got into makes me smile when I look back at it all!
Me. It’s so sad. The whole story is sad. Just buddies that got together to try to keep sublime and brads dream alive. I always wonder how Lou dog felt after he never got too see his friend again
It was 1999, senior in high school, and my girlfriend surprised me with tickets to see the LBDAS at First Ave in Minnesota. The show was great, and I bought a dark green beanie with Long Beach Dub All Stars embroidered on the front...wearing that hat right now, as I have every winter since. Good times, sure do miss them, RIP Bradley.
Long Beach is going on tour again soon, now that there’s a huge following for the reggae Cali scene lately, so lay back and go to the beach and drink a couple coldies and smoke some Cali chronic
this songs about my life, growin up on the eastside of long beach as a whiteboy, goin to woodrow wilson causin havok, sellin trees, havin all kinds of friends, and gettin that sweet poon afterschool
there seems to be lots of confusion goin on here..... this is LONG BEACH DUB ALL STARS, the drummer and bass player of sublime (eric and budd) got this one (LBDAS) going. then around 2009 -2010 eric and budd having already left LBDAS , formed or more like "reformed" Sublime ...but sadly it was now Sublime w/rome..... ; ( so Long Beach Dub All Stars are a totally different/seperate band than Sublime w/Rome!!!! in fact LBDAS is touring together again and so is Sublime w/Rome.... before covid 19 at least. so yeah loooong post = not 1 band.... 2 diff bands amazing how many people don't realize this, or know it at all.. ; )
RAS-1's guitar playing sounds almost exactly like Brad did: from reggae to punk to blues, strumming chords as well as soloing. As much as I love Brad, his guitar style is not hard to replicate if done right. Roman Ramirez also nailed it in Sublime with Rome. I guess they studied Brad's technique and tone as well as amp settings. RAS-1's voice works better for the blues/country/whatever you want to call it type singing that Sublime had ("What I Got", this song, "Rosarito", "Sunny Hours", "Rolled Up"). However, for the reggae style singing, Opie Ortiz had that covered. Obviously no two people have the exact same voice, but you can tell reggae music is part of Opie's heart and soul, and he sounded pretty damn close to Brad reggae wise. Listen to "My Own Life", "Kick Down", "Soldiers", "Listen To DJ's", and "Lonely End" to hear what I'm talking about.
I dunno. I think the song would be just as good with OUT the DJ scratching in it. I remember reading a question in a magazine once about ten years ago: are DJ's going to be a regular part of rock bands nowadays, or are they only fad? I think I know what the answer is..
Maybe not now per se, but back then it worked. The scratching in this song really accentuates the hip-hop/reggae shuffle that Bud is known for playing. It could do without, but the scratching makes it so much better. As for turntables in rock bands, remember that in the late 1990s to early 2000s, tons of rock bands had DJs. It's probably because most rock bands of the time mixed genres together, especially hip-hop: Incubus, Sublime, Long Beach Dub Allstars, 311, Sugar Ray, Phunk Junkeez, Limp Bizkit, Linkin' Park, The Bloodhound Gang, lostprophets, The Ernies.
this band was doing this type of scratching long before anyone in rock and metal really. tbis isn't rock, so the comparison isn't fair. plus this dudes a legend and he's amazing
Of course, & so was Bud, but with zero tolerance drug use policy had Bud outta there super fast! Which is kind of understandable, I guess. Opie has been hearing them sometime now, & still sounding tight. Pretty rough for Eric & Bufld, to literally hit the big time, as soon as Bradley🛵💉🩹, so I feel when peeps hate on them for daring to play anything without Bradley is a bit rough. I fucking love Bradley, he literally got me through many years of addiction, prison ,& hardcore depression, and still helps me fight, and ride, my demons on daily basis, but, he made his choice, he made his mark, and it's unfair in my eyes to expect those who did it with him to fade out for the glory of Brad. Bradley will Shine throughout the ages, so why peeps trip on the boys still playing the music they love, is to miss the point of Sublimes message to start with. I mean, surely Bradley, up on cloud 9, is smiling down when seeing his boys still rockin' it!!! Just my jive on it all, if u can dig it! It's all love, yes??!🙏🙏🙏🤘🤘🤘💥💥💥

I never realized they made a vid for this. What's funny is I remember buying this album ,September 11 2001, the day it came out, even after the buildings had fell. Honestly i thought LongBeach Dub Allstars sounded more sublime then when Rome joined and sounded like crap.
Brad looks down from above and nods his head and sways to the beat....and quietly says to himself man.....
and opie ortiz, the guy from the cover of roobie the hood!adn the djs from summertime. damns is all the sublime familly in LBDAS
Yup! Bud Gaugh - Drums, Eric Wilson - Bass, RAS-1 - Guitar/Vocals, Opie Ortiz - Vocals/Album Artwork, Marshall Goodman - Turntables/Drums/Percussion, Jack Maness - Keyboard, Tim Wu - Saxophone/Flute, Miguel Happoldt - Producer
Opie did killer tattoos also!

Someone is projecting their self image onto others.
Agreed! Marshall Goodman tears up the turntables in this song and drums on some of the other album's songs.

>SUBLIME WITH BRAD

Where? How? the sublime vibes there, but in no way does Ras sound like Brad...no way.
RAS-1's guitar playing sounds almost exactly like Brad did: from reggae to punk to blues, strumming chords as well as soloing.
