Apparently the off-brand sensors are a tad longer than original ones or the new bought from Nissan. This, according to many people, destroys off brand sensors and that’s why you have to keep replacing them. On Nissan forums there are people claiming that off brand sensors burned the wire harness because engine hitting them inside the block, which causes a short circuit. I bit the bullet and bought both sensors from dealership - only 150 for a pair. I think it is worth it because it sucked to replace them, especially the bottom back one. Nice video, thank you for your time. My wife’s 2006 Altima is back on the road.
Man o man. simple would not be my description of the crankshaft sensor. It is somewhat a challenge for a novice like me. your video really helped. getting it to seat was a job in and of itself. THANKS AGAIN FOR TAKING THE TIME TO MAKE THIS.....
LMAO I feel this. I'm watching this video because I just replaced one in my jeep now I'm replacing in Altima. In jeep took 3.5 hours to get 3 bolts off the heat shield and 1 bolt of crankshaft took all of 25 minutes to screw all 4 back in. Worried this gonna be an issue with the Altima. But since I've done this before it should be simple
When you have the plastic engine cover off, it's possible to look down thru the manifold and see crank sensor, and what you are doing. It's not immediately obvious, but just look thru every opening, you'll find the view.
Yeah it's hard to see but once you get the right angle/view you can't unsee it. I just changed mine the ther day after watching this and other videos but still no luck so Changing the cam sensor now ::shrugs::
Worked on my altima many times, but this was one of the hardest things I had to do replace the crankshaft, I cants see a dam thing and hard to take off... but got it done after a couple of hours
great video sir. but the inner threads for my crankshaft sensor are striped, so the sensor can't be tighten up using a bolt. could you give me some advices
Matthew Placencia so you need to determine if he has fuel. So your chest feel pressure and you also need to test if the injectors have pulse. If the injectors are not working I would suspect a crank sensor. And last you would need to determine if it has good compression.
Matthew Placencia you need to know if it's missing spark or fuel and then go from there. So if you have no fuel such as a bad fuel pump or bad injectors the car won't start. Or if it has no spark such a bad ignition coil's or cam sensor sensor crank sensor. These are all the possible causes.
hello the code that cam e up on my 2006 nissan altima was the P0011 Descriptin: a camshaft postition timing over- advanced or system performance bank 1. Possible causes-- 1. valve timing problem. 2. engine mechanical problem. 3. fault cmp actvator. the car when parked will not rev passed 2000 rpm but starts first try and when driving will kinda of jerk when hitting gas. Please help use car for work. i was very low on oil not sure if an oil change will help this plan on working on it this weekend.
ANDY RIVERA get it from the dealer the ones from autozone and amazon go bad after a few months even though they are cheaper on amazon eventually they will go out
HITACHI CPS0003 is the OE part number. You can save a bit by buying this instead of the dealer part, which is the EXACT SAME THING made by Hitachi. If you can find the OE PN of many dealer items, you can find them for cheaper often.
There are 3 sensors. I believe you only replaced The Crankshaft and One Camshaft Sensor known as Bank 1 or Camsensor A. Just for clarification there is a second one, Bank 2 or Camsensor B located right next to the first one there! Should be replaced in pairs like suspension, not always possible mind you!
No, they need different PN's. For the 08 2.5L you want Nissan PN# 23731JA00A (Denso 1964003 is the OEM PN if you want to buy an OEM part and save money vs. dealer cost)
I have replace booth the cam and crankshaft sensors on my Nissan Altima 2002 but the car still won’t start and there is no code showing. What els can I do ?
Won't start it cut off on me omw home from work the engine light was on and it said I had cancer position sensor problem error code P0340 and P1273 cylinder no.3 high to low side open
I have a 2.5L Sentra SE-R.. can you tell me where would the camshaft be ? I already had to replace the crankshaft but the cam is on the other side but idk where
My Altima read a code for camshaft sensor I bought one and it still didn't fix the problem car still not starting. I also bought a crankshaft sensor brand new as well.
J Cameron I believe on this model there are two cam sensors. So you may have to replace the wrong one. Also is the wiring going to any other sensors is damaged it will send the same codes and get the same symptoms
@@HowtoAutomotive I have an 2006 model 2.5l with an 05 Nissan Altima engine in it ion think it should be that much of a difference sensor wise bc of the year.
Thanks for the video. IT's very helpful. crankshaft sensor is a b**ch to change. Hardest part for me was to put the screw back in. alignment and mirror trick is the only thing that will do it. And make sure you have long arms!!!!
... I tried changing this Crankshaft/Crank position sensor for a 2003 Nissan Altima, with a 2.5L I4 engine. Not only could I not do it, but it looks like it's impossible to do while the engine is in the car. And I have small hands, and I laid on top of the engine, while attempting to do this job. First, I found that the sensors connector, appears to be locked in place with a Cotter pin. Yes you heard right, a Cotter Pin. All the videos that I've seen, None of them mention a cotter pin. Secondly, you can't Remove the damn connector off the sensor. And if you can't Remove the connector off the sensor, you CAN NOT unbolt the sensor from the engine. You literally can not fit a socket on to the bolt which is securing the sensor to the engine, because the Connector is Physically in the way of the bolt. I'm not sure how people are doing this, I think Nissan changed the connector or something. 🤔 Or people on UA-cam are leaving out a step or a procedure from their videos.
Chanty Ochoa this is a tough one there is a Lot of reasons why it may not be starting. Could be a bad fuel pump bad crank sensor so many reasons. I would start by trying to pull codes.

@ dc doan did you try replacing fuel pump?
This is awesome. Glad it's so simple. Just got a used altima with a bad sensor. Happy it's a doable diy job. And that paper trick is genius!

Try to do it on a maxima you will have to take off the whole intake manifold
I have a 4th generation 4 cylinder Altima (2009). Do you know if the location of the crankshaft position sensor in that car is different?
Good trick to use paper to hold the screw thanks it helped me a lot 👍

Alex Wu I would recommend trying to use a re-threader or tap and fix the threads.
use a slightly bigger bolt
I loved how u called the breather tube a snorkel got a country boy here

the camshaft sensors looks different. Does it matter?
@HowtoAutomotive, I found a way to illuminate the Crankshaft sensor. You need some high lumens (300+), but it definitely works well.
