    What is great about the demos is it shows how original the Ramones were, as their demo sounds nothing like anything else going on in 1974/ 75.

      at this point i would say, ramones, the punks, death and jack ruby and maybe the bratts, were some bands that were doing "punk rock" and some noise, even som hc by 1974

    The Ramones, hoping to aid the securing of a record deal, made many demo recordings of their early material. Mostly recorded in the first part of 1975 (some sources even state late 1974) with a second, shorter attempt in September, these offer the best glimpses of the band in its formative stages.

    • @artis1969
      @artis1969 6 років тому +5

      I've heard ppl talk in interviews about Marty Thau demos, which Johnny said he preferred to the actual final mix of Ramones. It would be cool if anyone could sort these demos by time and place and recording details. This batch sounds great.

    • @TJAction100
      @TJAction100 6 років тому +10

      Pretty sure the Marty Thau demos were only two songs: "Judy Is A Punk" and "I Wanna Be Your Boyfriend". They are produced fairly well and Judy even has piano in it. Norton Records did a 7" release of those songs in the '90s. They were recorded on September 19th, '75.
      The above demo was recorded by Tommy at Dick Charles Studios. In Johnny's bio, he states that these demos were recorded February 2nd and 10th, 1975. The above demo is actually missing "I Don't Care", which can be heard here:

      Thanks, John. I know there's been some friction between respective family/friends at times, but it's great that the legacy was and is a priority for those still involved. 22 years since they quit and these demos and such still generate real interest and accent the story of the band in so many ways.

    I’ve been a UK Ramones fan since I was a 14 year old school kid, back in 78’, lucky to have seen them live 11 times, 78 and 80’ were the best before the “silly speed” crept in. Autographs and Soundcheck 1980. As rough and raw as this sounds I prefer these early masterpieces to the “stereo Beatleest”recording of the first album. Just my opinion like.

    Damn I wanna be your boyfriend sounds way better here, joeys vocals are killer here and way more fun. Wish they would kept some of the melodic ad libs on this demo cause they're catchy as hell and sound brattier on here than studio version. Oh well both rock that's just how good the Ramones are ..even their demos blow most bands away

    I can't find any info on this full demo anywhere on the internet for some reason. I wonder if this is the correct order sequence of the songs. The first five were certainly released in this order on a number of bootlegs over the years. Other than I Don't Wanna Go Down to the Basement and Judy is a Punk, these demos have all been released officially on cd and cleaned up, for some reason the demo of I Don't Care is missing here. I wonder if we will EVER get an official, decent release of this entire session, maybe even with some info on when in 1975 it was recorded.

      These are the "Radio City Music Hall Demos" and to my understanding were originally intended to be the first album. I believe they returned to R.C.M.H. to record what would become what we know as their first album.

      My grandad said exactly the same thing in 1977, but the "shit" he was referring to was the Ramones. I did not agree, of course, but he thought the Ramones wasn't music. He said "but it's so aggressive". I never discovered what, if any music, he liked to listen to.
