    I'm in north Florida and planted my Roselle directly in July. They grew to 10' tall and 5'wide. They had so many calyxes that I have dried enough for a year from 9 plants! I found the more you pick, the more you grow but wait until the calyxes are about 2" long. I did try to eat the leaves but really sour. I will forever plant Roselle as the most giving plant ever. The tea is easy - both hot or cold is so tasty. They survived and bloomed until the first frost. The stems I finally cut off before the first frost, dried in a flower vase and I'm still looking at them. Full of seeds but also gorgeous in flower arrangements. Next year I'm going to try a wreath. No bugs, no disease and fruit that is packed with nutritioon and has way more Vitamin C that citrus! Listen to your Dad - don't plant the seeds early! I'd suggest April or May for second summer planting!

    When talking about seed saving; what seed varieties can or can't you save? (Hybrid vs cross pollination)
    Thanks so much for the time you put into sharing your knowledge with all of us.
    Stephanie

    • @gardeningwithhoss
      @gardeningwithhoss  3 роки тому

      You can save hybrid seed, but the plant that results is not likely to be true to variety. Only open-pollinated seeds can be saved and will be true to variety.

    When transplanting tomatoes, it is recommended that you cut the bottom leaves off and bury the plant deep. Supposedly this is better for the tomatoes and helps establish more roots. Should you bury a determinate tomato as deep as an indeterminate? (Since the determinates have a shorter main stem)
    Thanks, L. Martinez

    I’m not going to plant my tomatoes outside until they reach about 18-24 inches tall. That’s generally what I buy at the nursery in order to ensure they will produce enough prior to our first frost. This is the first year I’ve ever tried tomatoes from seed. Can someone please tell me around how long it takes to reach that height after seeds have germinated? I’m trying to figure out when to start the seeds. Thank you!

    How do you plant corn in a small space? Do you have to have a certian amount of plants in rows, or can I just plant like 10 seeds and get a harvest? Probably a stupid question, but I really don't know. Thanks for your help

    • @gardeningwithhoss
      @gardeningwithhoss  3 роки тому

      Row length is not as important as row number. We recommend planting at least three rows for adequate pollination. Some folks that plant smaller plantings will also hand pollinate by shaking the tassel so that the pollen falls to the silks.
