    What an absolute legend. It's so weird to see Buddhists who don't think veganism is important. Being vegan is a massive step toward reducing the suffering we inflict on others.

      not proven whatsoever. give me your unbiased proof that doesn't come directly or indirectly from animal agriculture companies and groups. plant based eating is just as healthy as meat eating, if not healthier. my sister has been eating vegan for 6 years and is very healthy and has raised a big fat baby boy with 0 defects to either of them. animal fat is some of the most toxic yet edible stuff to have in your system. i know you wont change your mind from anyone at this time because you have some obvious strong concepts and beliefs that you were raised with and wont do any research with and open mind until you're further down the path. perhaps you could do with a little of the buddhism stuff (i highly recommend, with a skeptical mind though). as condescending as it sounds, try letting go of your self importance a little bit, it cannot hurt. (i have also been vegan for a year and since have put on weight [im chronically skinny, metabolism related] and cured my psoriasis as a direct result. this is not a placebo as i was also very skeptical of the diet when i first began.) cheers.

    This guy really applies the spirit of the teachings and is not stupidly literal by following some rules developed for the world as it was thousands of years ago. So he talks about the environment, about eating vegan because compassion takes him there.

      I remember several years ago seeing a UA-cam video of a supposedly advanced Buddhist monk (he was an American man), answering a question about vegetarianism. He essentially said that the Buddha forbade directly killing any sentient being, but that since when you buy meat you're not directly killing, that's fine. I thought it was embarrassingly, shamefully, self-serving, legalistic, and dogmatic. The worst of religion. Following the 'teachings' to the letter of the law and using creative rhetoric to justify whatever you already believe.
      My attitude is 'who cares?'. If that's what the scriptures say, why should I obey it unquestioningly? What's it really about if I consider things afresh right now? Free-thinking, compassion, and so on.
      OH ACTUALLY the video just popped up in the related column. ua-cam.com/video/TSwtv7VqMh0/v-deo.html Watch this and cringe. A lesson not to toady to authority.

      It depends on the tradition. Vjarayana Buddhism does not allow monks to eat meat whether it’s from someone who had done the butchering. Anything that had caused suffering they are minimising it that they cannot eat animal products where other people had gathered. I don’t think Buddha or Vjarayana Buddhist would eat any animal products at all.

    So revived to hear this comming from one of the worlds most well renowned Masters. So many spiritual teachers are more concerned with personally offending people for doing the wrong thing and contributing to the madness, indifference and sheer disregard for the trauma, torture and torment suffered by other living beings. Simply to unecessarly consume chickens periods and baby cows mothers cercreated mucus. No dancing around the subject so humans can feel okay about continuing in barbaric, primative, and ridiculous behaviour. Just truth. My comment does not reflect his Grace, suttle manner and beauty. Nor does What Animals are enduring.

    • @SparklySarah
      @SparklySarah 2 роки тому +3

      @@Son_of_aesthetics Honey has devastating effects on the environment and creates a lot of suffering. Chickens have been genetically bred to lay eggs every day, they only lay like 12 a year typically. Plus, the suffering for those chickens is immense. All baby male chicks are crushed and wasted in the egg industry. Plus, maple syrup is better for your health than honey and eggs are hands down a driver of heart disease.

      @@SparklySarah Thank you actually for answering my question with all you knew,it meant for me cuz you see I asked that question a year ago!
      anyway, people used eggs of different birds and even lizards through history even the time we were not able to cause them any change in their genes to lay more eggs, this is the first time I heard, but I mever knew so I will search for it.
      But even though I do not see a problem in that, and about honey,it is a miraculous nutrient I do not think it is wise to let it get wasted by not using it lol

    Thank you for posting. I did a long retreat with Thich Nhatt Hanh in Vermont in 2000. I pointed out to one of the monks that wearing leather shoes and a down jacket did not match what they were teaching us. This monk accused me of being angry and told me I needed to look at my anger. He avoided my question and took no responsibility for how he and the other brothers and sisters were dressed. I stopped following Plum Village after that. I'm so glad to hear about the changes over the years.

So maybe people have females for egg production that are happy and free, but there were males that got killed because of it. Not so happy and free :( Bottom line: animals are not ours to own or exploit. And, there must be another way to prevent/control the tick issue. A more compassionate way :)

    There is a connection between diet and spirituality/morality/emotions, etc. in a person. But it is something that is generally more subtle, and it is not really something obviously good or evil, etc. For instance:
    A disciplined, frugal, humble person is likely to eat/drink simple, nourishing foods. ("Peasant" food...) Like water, vegetables, herbs, seeds, 100% whole grains, EGGS, beans, nuts, fruits, FISH, etc.
    A moody, more intense/ill tempered person (who may have a better or worse character overall) is likely to be eating too much meat, greasy foods/fast food, full fat dairy, junk food, sugary foods/drinks, drinking coffee, beer, wine, etc., and often too little or irregular sleep/exercise.
    An extremely disciplined, ascetic (monk-like) sort of person is even more likely to eat extremely simple foods-beans, seeds, green vegetables, basic fruits, rice, water, etc. Veganism or vegetarianism in some form, yes, that may come into play here...
    A person who is gluttonous and completely without self discipline is likely to have many health problems in life, moreso than the person who eats too much meat, etc. When a person shovels down candy, soda, coke, doughnuts, chocolate eclairs, cake, endless amounts of bacon, sausage, corned beef, cheesy/meaty pizza, fries, etc., beer, wine, twinkies, etc., far, FAR in excess of what they should be eating/drinking (and I just don't consume alcohol, coffee, black/green tea, etc. PERIOD), that person will be in SERIOUS trouble health-wise at some point. Further, it will DEFINITELY have a negative impact on spirituality.
    A person who is very muscular (esp. bulky muscle-wise) and fit will likely be eating very healthy as well-plenty of plant foods, along with plenty of high quality eggs, poultry, meat, fish, etc. If that kind of person stays away from alcohol, smoking, coffee, etc., all the better for his (or her) moods, etc.
    A person who eats a lot of refined grains, sweetened dairy, LOTS of fruit (instead of veggies) and dessert-type foods, is more sedentary, doesn't ever weightlift or work out, etc., probably won't be very inclined to be a confrontational, aggressive sort of person. But, being too aimless, undisciplined and nonchalent in life is not a good thing either...
    100% whole grains are NOT essential for good health, but can supplement other foods for good health, dep. on the person.
    Vegetables are universally VITAL for good health. Similar deal with herbs, spices, edible flowers, etc., as they supplement what vegetables do in the body, without added sugars/carbs, etc.
    Beans are healthy, so long as they do not cause excessive bloating in a person.
    Nuts and seeds are especially healthy, esp. when soaked, but the phytic acid present in nuts/seeds is not a big deal.
    Fruit (and dark chocolate) IS the dessert. Fruit is healthy IN MODERATION.
    Dairy, like 100% whole grains, are NOT essential for good health. But, like grains, they can supplement other food groups, esp. if it is grass fed dairy food. However, their consumption must be VERY LIMITED, ESP. if it is conventional dairy. As a general rule, I don't consume dairy, except for grass fed butter on occasion.
    Eggs, fish, poultry and meat are fine in moderation, IF they are high quality, and IF meat is consumed less often than eggs, fish and poultry. Animal foods are good to have in lower quantities compared to plant foods, because animal foods have complete proteins, rather than having to pair plant foods together that have complementary proteins, or stick to quinoa, buckwheat, and soy (plant foods with complete proteins).
    Eating meat does NOT make a person more wicked or cruel, etc. It is no sin. Eating to the point of gluttony is a minor vice however, that can lead to worse vices. And the overconsumption of meat, etc., is not something that benefits a person spiritually, in my opinion, dep. on a person's musculature, daily caloric needs, etc.

      As to your other questions, I'm not sure. I'll have to give this one some more thought, but if you want to gain a few (healthier) pounds, I'd recommend (organic poultry), wild caught fish, pasture raised eggs, nuts/seeds, avocado, olives, sea vegetables, beans, fruit, and a little potato. If you take away the fish/eggs, substitute more avocado, rice/beans, quinoa, buckwheat, potato, etc. I haven't had matcha, so I'm not sure about that one/what it is... 🤔🤔🤔🤔🤔

    He is talking about those films about big industrial productions where animals are nothing but machines, to thise yougsters who come from countries (wether german, austria, suiss) where cows and people live together in mountains, are brought up to the green wild grass in summer and go back inside heated warm houses during winter (they could not survive outside) where they are fed mostly with dry grass and complements.
    Of course their life contain suffering like the separation of the families and being impregnated more than they would be otherwise.
    But they spend 99% of their life together in medium groups outside just eating and enjoying the landscape and in winter being heated and cures by man.
    This life seem even better than most human lifes.
    I dont drink milk but i recognise that without it all these famikies and countries would not have any cow as they dont survive in the cold winters, and these families would have to cultivate much more.
    They actually get most of their nutrients from cows milk and meat.
    I mean i see what he is referring to but these entire cultures are based on the cow human relationship.
    The cultural gap is big.
    These people have very few industrial farms and thousand of small family farms.
    You should see every year they bring the cows in the villages with special garnement to honour them.

    The answer given by The Most Venerable Thich Nhat Hanh is based on the fact that there is cruelty involved in the process of raising cows. But this is not the only way of raising cows. This is the way of modern society but while this way is to be rejected there is also another way of raising cows, which is called AHIMSA way. You can find out about the Ahimsa milk and learn that there is positive and loving answer to the violence of dairy industry. The answer is to protect mother cow as humanity have been doing for thousands of years in India. Veganism is one answer, and it is a good answer, but not the only one. We should drink milk as it is important product but we should protect cows and get milk from such love protected cows. At the same time all glories to everyone who wants to minimize the suffering of others, but if we don't protect cows and we don't become proactive, veganism will not stop the problem. Protecting the cows on the grounds of her importance for human society will help others to understand how wonderful that animal is and how important it is to keep cows happy and alive, till they die naturally...

Dude think about it let some plants or vegetables and some meat even cooked meat on your table for 3 days and notice after 3 days fish or meat will putrify and stink like hell . That stinky shit corpse goes into your body and stays stuck in ur body . Your body doesnt have the ability to transform that lump of putrifying corpse into lavender ... Some of that putrified matter will be absorbed by your body ... On the etheric field you will literarly stink in the unseen world so you will have like a greenish metaphorically speaking scent and look epsecially if you eat pig meat . So positive entities .. energies will stay away from you becouse they smell sense you like you are aproaching death .since you stink and have decomposing matter into your system . so they want beings that are alive not dying ones .... So if you wanna stay stuck into a vecious circle of dark low energy keep on eating that meat .... all your choise ... but dont wonder on your path why are you sick ... why you feel bad ... depressed ... why things dont work out . Simply becouse the Positive energy entity that was taking care of your liver to function optimally just quit his job and went to another since it kepts on stinking ... He said ... Screw this im out of here i been keeping you going for more then 40 years now Sayonara ....

Those three guidelines Buddha gave for when it is inappropriate to eat meat, seem nothing but hypocrisy and cowardice.

      There are many places in the Buddhist scriptures which tell of the Buddha and his monks being offered meat and eating it. One of the most interesting of these passages occurs in the introductory story to a totally unrelated rule (Nissaggiya Pacittiya 5) and the observation that the meat is purely incidental to the main theme of the story emphasizes the authenticity of the passage.

    • @srikanthreddymec07

      Buddha probably did eat meat and the answer to no non-vegetarianism is much more nuanced and subtle.
      But there is a clear rule that Buddhist Monks should not ask for meat or not eat meat that is specifically made for them even if they didn't ask for it. And meat is the only food that a Buddhist monk can reject when he goes for alms round if he vows for complete vegetarian food. Even he gave freedom to his followers to become complete vegetarians or otherwise.
      I think Buddha took this position based on many physical, anthropological and cultural reasons so that Dharma spreads wide and sustains a very long time.

    • @fotofavoloso267
      @fotofavoloso267 6 років тому

      So is there a good spiritual reason for not eating meat.......I think not..........Budda was wise in knowing that you are not what you eat........really.......he was dogmatic at times but not when it came to what was necessary for the Dharma to spread.............if it was that important not to eat meat.......it would have been specifically prohibited..........and it really is not. Didn't the Buddha die from eating bad meat.

    • @srikanthreddymec07
      @srikanthreddymec07 6 років тому

      Yes, I completely agree with your point that eating meat (because of properties of food) has no effect on your ability to gain wisdom. That is one of the reasons why eating meat was not expressly prohibited, because sometimes situations may arise where you have to eat meat to survive, not offend the host etc.
      But, the main point here is compassion for animals. Clearly, meat is tastier than veggies and it boils down to torturing other animals just for the sake of taste. Tbh, even I'm a meat eater as everyone in my family eats meat but I've considerably decreased it to 1-2 times a month from 1-2 times a week and in the future will try to completely stop eating meat.
      It doesn't matter much if you don't eat meat and are not compassionate to other animals, the main point here is respect and compassion for all life. Unfortunately, I see many Indians who are vegetarians but are very mean to the poor street dogs.
      Regarding Buddha's last meal, in some SE Asian sources, it was mentioned that his last meal was pork but as far as I know in many more Indian and other East Asian, Tibetan sources the last meal was Mushrooms. The confusion might have arisen from similar sounding words for both food types and no knowledge of Mushrooms in SE Asia.

      This life, this world we live in, is a Telestial world, operating under Telestial laws. If we lived in a Terrestrial or Celestial world, everything would be different. A LOT, LOT, LOT, LOOOOOT DIFFERENT.
