My dad went off his medication. He was schizophrenia and hated the way the medication dulled his senses. But he was dangerous without it! Also he felt well enough on his medication that he felt like he was cured!!! He was only doing better BECAUSE of the medication! You are an empathic doctor to question these decisions. "it's not just about medicines" My son who is permanently brain damaged from meningitis. He lives in a residential home and is on a heavy dose 3x's a day of psychotic medications. But he lives his life as normally as he can, and we see him twice a week/take him home for dinner once a week, so it is a combination of the medication AND his home environment that adds to the quality of his life!!
Thank you Dr.Goertz for your valuable insights into this topic..my relative developed OCD 3yrs ago after 4yrs approx. on Clozapine has reduced his global functioning drastically ...wonder if you have dealt with this at all with any of your patients? Thanks (concerned carer UK)
hey dr goertz, very thankful for your videos. i was wondering if you could give me some insight on chemical imbalance theory, i’ve heard that it is no longer as widely accepted, maybe this isn’t the case. -superplorp
Don’t medication treat symptoms, antipsychotics whatever it is have similar benzene hoops to older antihistamines. I often wonder as a lay person is mood and kindness itself a better diagnosis then the many labels that are around.

Thank you for the question. This may be a topic for a future video. Peter Goertz
I take a LAI and it's a lifesaver. The only thing I worry about is developing TD and not being able to stop the medication very quickly.
Thank you for sharing this. Peter Goertz
As a future provider, I would say NO. I will recommend medical marijuana before any pharmaceuticals
Thank you for sharing your perspective.

Thank you for your comment. In my opinion labels/diagnoses have their pros and cons.
