I agree that it’s great work, but I’d rather see all the rust pits removed. That’s not patina or aging, that just the result of neglect. Why not actually restore it back to what the maker intended it to be. Nice work on the handle too.
9.9 out of 10 I love that you preserved the surface finish. It wears the scars of age proudly while still retaining function. The .1 you're missing is just personal preferance, I would've Blued it, then buffed the surface to a shine leaving the Bluing in the pits for contrast. All in all a magnificent piece. Enjoyed the video!
Another outstanding restoration from the absolute master!!! Just the perfect amount of original parts and new materials. I thought I might have seen the time machine you use to achieve this level of quality… maybe it was an errant extension cord. Well done sir !!!!! Thanks for sharing your video with us… The Old Army Scout…
Your work is outstanding and I really enjoy your channel, some of the rare artifacts that you restore are absolutely priceless, case in point with this 100 year old pick axe ⛏️ very personal piece of a soldier's equipment.
I think it was Backyard Ballistics that made his own effective rust converter with citric acid and bi card. Gets rid of rust without taking away too much base metal.
I am so glad you didn't burn the handle. Wood stain is so much better in my opinion. Nice refurbishing and it isn't a show piece but you can actually use it too...
Don't know if you have thought of this or have the capability to do so, but I once watched a restoration video where the individual cut a space in the handle, and using epoxy, was able to epoxy a small piece of the original handle into the new one. Just a thought. Great work. Keep it up.
On my Tomahawk I used linseed oil over the steel after blueing it. It helps with the weather protection. Once dry you don't notice it to much. 10 stars 🌟
Perfect balance between preservation and restoration, thanks!
Thank you)
An honor to the solder who carried it. A 10 out of 10!
That’s a 10 - not OVER restored - perfect!
Thanks!

А по мне, так рыхлый металл выглядит брутальнее и только подчеркивает возраст кирки

The only missing thing was hammering ( axing) a piece of wood log or did some digging in your garden.

It took me till the end to appreciate the decision to not polish it smooth.
Too pitted, you need to use a steel paste that drys hard as steel, then sand it to a smooth surface to get a better result.
