  • In the February 2024 Deer & Deer Hunting magazine that just hit the retail shelves, there is an article written about me by a freelance writer in which he asks, in large bold print across the article, "Is he the best bowhunter in America"? Of which there can't be a best hunter for a plethora of reasons which I explain in the video.
    I also ask for replies as to what bowhunting topics you would like me to make a video on.
    There is also an update on what weekends still have openings for the 2-day Whitetail Workshops.
    Lastly, I am wearing a ScentLok Vertigo camo suit in the video and speak about the pattern and would like some comments on what you think about the pattern for a future suit.

    John in my opinion after 33 years of bow hunting and following you since 2012 you are without a doubt the best bow hunter of our time. Since adopting your strategies me and my sons have been shooting the best bucks of our lives. The number one thing that predicts all deer movements is hunter pressure and that’s why it’s so difficult for us to appreciate what all the guys on TV are promoting, food plots, scents, treestands, blinds etc. That’s why you see the TV guys on hundreds of acres of private land so they eliminate most of not all their competitors. There is no reason for the majority of hunters to listen or take advice from any of them because it is not relatable to the majority of hunters. Keep telling the truth and posting videos about whatever you think will help us. Hunting is going in the wrong direction and we need guys like you telling everyone how it really is. Hope you have many more seasons to come. Thanks!

    The fact is that you are the best bowhunting deer hunter. 99.9 percent of hunting personalities are more bowhunting popular culture facades rather than hunters. So yes, Fred Bear and John Eberheart and maybe a few others in history. But, you sir out of the living are the best bowhunting deer hunter in the world 🌎, its not even close. Much respect, appreciation and admiration. Overdue..... decades overdue. 🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉

    I've read all the comments and answered them and here is what I wrote down concerning new or repeated videos: E-scouting from aerials and topos, scouting for new locations and why a specific spot is a location, preparing a tree with sticks and aider with strap on ring, same using screw-ins, and spikes all the way to the top, placing motion cameras 12 to 14 foot up, more audio hunting stories, how morning entries can be dangerous when using ScentLok, arrows and heads, show and explain scrape areas better, not being concerned with getting winded on entries and exits while wearing ScentLok, hill country issues with thermal drafts, swirling winds, and thermal hubs, Vertigo pattern worn in a tree, skeeters and ticks, setting up in large trees, mature bucks entering a natural destination feeding mast or fruit tree location, and my steps for an out of state hunt.

    Hello John! Much appreciate your videos! I am huge fan of your 'in field interviews' from the treestand when you are explaining not only your set up by why you pick that spot as a good setup.... Going through the details of your hunting spot and the 'why' from the treestand are awesome. I believe the more you can show folks more of the interviews from the tree are very educational. Thanks again John.

High quality and well made. If Scent Lock came out with that patern for a cold weather suit I would buy it in a heartbeat. I love the one piece overalls. Congratulations on the Deer and Deer Hunting article. I have always wondered who was the "best" deer hunter. It can't be some man or woman who owns their own property, controls access, and hunts only afternoons over food plots. It has to be someone who figures out mature deer in public settings, with unpredictable hunting pressure, and consistently ambushes them. Very few people fall into this latter category - and you are one of them. Once again, congratulations - well-deserved.

    I've been working on the Eberhart way for about 3 years now and i got to the point where i really didn't know if it was working or not . I think for most people its hard to gauge wether or not its working . I decided to talk to every person on public i run into to figure out if what I'm seeing is different than the average hunter . Every hunter has either never seen a legal buck or has only seen one out of bow range .i regularly see legal bucks , it's just not what I'm targeting , the more i talk to other hunters the more data im getting that says I'm doing something right , all we can do is our best so get out and do your best , thanks John for giving me the info to do my best

    John, I would love a video about two specific things regarding your morning entries. The first, rut entries. Since using your advice, I’ve been charged by two bucks in early November in the pitch dark. It thoroughly sucked! I’m sure this has happened to you and I’d love to hear about your experiences with this. The second, how you prevent sweating during those entries as well. I struggle every year with layering in the cold and how much to wear on entries. I hunt in central Wisconsin and it’s a struggle every year and I know you’re walking much farther than I am to get to your hunting location. Thank you for your books and videos! They’ve helped me immensely!

    • @johneberhart4062
      @johneberhart4062 7 місяців тому

      I get it and when you go in correctly on morning hunts, with a dim or no light, bucks will think you're another deer and with a proper scent control, they can't smell you when they get close either. Yes, I have had the same issues and have written about them and it will also be in my next book this year. Wear a bright headlamp and have no scent control and you won't have to worry because you will spook them well before they even think you might be another deer.

    I would love to see a scentlok suit with sitka elevate 2 pattern. I swear by scentlok and the sitka clothing in the elevate 2 pattern is fantastic. I wear sitka base layers , scentlok mid layers, and sitka fanatic outer layer in elevate 2. A carbon lined sitka fanatic elevate 2 outer layer would be amazing. Sitka aint cheap but the comfort and warmth and function of the clothing is great for a bow hunter which is all I do,and spending money on bow hunting doesn't bother me one bit cause its what i love to do as well as my 2 daughters also, Gun hunting doesn't interest me anymore and hasn't for years. My scent control regimen almost mirrors johns with the exception of the carbon outer layer and the van. Thank you John I have learned alot from you and am a better bow hunter from it . I have nothing to do with the patterns ScentLok uses and have no clue what elevate 2 pattern is. No doubt that if we averaged out what we spend on bowhunting and divide the pounds of meat we get from the deer we kill, it would be quite pricey.

    John, like too see you up in your tree with Your Vertigo, showing us how great the pattern was, and when it was here, if you snoozed you losed. And if you would go over my Trophy line tree saddle that you helped design 30 years ago that I'm still using today, I just cut off shoulder straps and made a belt for it, other than that too me I would never get another, but if someone came in my lair and stole it, I would definitely get your three panels Eberhart saddle. All I know your a fantastic bow hunter and I have been learning from you thirty years or more, and it put me I'm a different level, only difference is I hunt traditional and it's my passion my hole life, since my Dad got me into at 4 years old, and when he pulled his recurve out of the rafters of the basement and gave it too me at about 10 years old, it was a magical day that I will never forget, that day my passion started for traditional archery, continues shooting, stalking small game then deer hunting. I'm excited that your doing awesome and I'm still learning pearls of wisdom from you, this year I was blessed with a 155 inch 11 point all free range hunting and using are beloved mock scrapes, laid down in the right spot. John thanks alot. One moreDiddy, the truth lies in cent control it all changed when I bought the vertigo camo, with cent lock, that I learned from you , and you were right in every case how great it works, so I could carry on all day about you and how you brought me so much more wisdom and knowledge but then, they might fall asleep, but then again if they have the spirit of the wild, I would listen all day, Johnny 👊👊

    I love this content and have started gearing up and am actively working out the whole process. I have two questions on the activated carbon. 1. When it hangs on the retail store garment racks, is it "worn out" before i have a change to use it? and 2. Does activated carbon provide additional scent control over a waterproof garment? thank you!

      He can’t answer that because he’s on the team but I have to absolutely believe they are ruined and that’s why so many people believe it dosnt work… don’t wash it and buy it directly from scentlok 👍🏻 out the bag in the dryer in a scent free airtight tote, I’d buy a tote and boots before you buy any piece of it… good luck hunting brother.

      I like that answer because that's exactly what I did. I use the racks at the local stores to get my sizing correct and buy online. @johneberhart4062 7 місяців тому

      That would be a tough one as I would assume anyone would call the DNR if someone poached a deer. In heavily pressured areas I view baiters as nothing more than mature buck deflectors so when I see it, while it's illegal, it doesn't bother me that much. Quads are legal so there is nothing I can do about that.

      @@johneberhart4062 Well, I am like you in that I like to access areas that are "too much work", but it is disappointing when I find some landlocked by private area in some hard to get to back corner of state land, only to find the nearby private land owners are using quads to get to their stands and drag deer out. I want to put a note on their quad trail. or give the dnr a pin or track of the illegal activity. They are stealing "our" deer.

      I get it, a few years ago I went back on some public and had to wade through water for a couple hundred yards as that was the only public land access to the higher ground. When I got back there, there was an illegal 55 gallon feeder on tripod legs and it had to be brought in from the private bordering property and likely they were the ones hunting at it because public access almost negated the likelihood of anyone accessing it. I would love for you to look at specific spot I hunt and get your opinion on it. I located this year for my area (Western Md) a real nice 8pt and 10pt but could not close in on either 1 of there core areas and would love some opinions on where these bucks could be spending there time during daylight hours.

    • @johneberhart4062
      @johneberhart4062 7 місяців тому

      Joel that is a seriously difficult task as the amount and type of hunting pressure an area receives, totally dictates how a mature buck may move on the property. Not knowing where all the other hunters in the area hunt would also make just picking a spot rather meaningless. This is where post season scouting comes in and you can choose some locations from aerials and then go in on foot and see if there are any other hunters around that may have left their sign in the area. You may go in and see a ton of deer sign, but the amount and type of pressure the other hunters present, has a direct impact on whether that sign was made during daylight or at night. Only in lightly hunted areas and on managed properties as seen on TV can you just choose a spot on an aerial and have it work out because there is no other hunting pressure in the area.

    C'mon, John. Someone who doesn't use scent control can't be in the conversation? I personally love your scent control regimen, but this is just ludicrous. I respect the fact that you're unwavering in your beliefs but the vast majority of the truly great hunters have never used scent control and never will.
    To be honest, using scent loc effectively could arguably make killing big deer easier. Couldn't we say those who don't use scent loc, and consistently shoot the biggest deer in their area, are really the best hunters? Doesn't it take more skill to take every single factor into account rather than disregarding the wind?
    Ignore the haters! You don't need to respond to the people who don't believe in your processes. The internet is full of keyboard warriors. Saying that those who don't use scent control can't be considered in the conversation hurts your credibility in my opinion.

    • @johneberhart4062

      Using ScentLok definitely makes killing big bucks easier and that's exactly why if 2 equally skilled hunters were hunting on the same property and one was using ScentLok correctly and the other had to pay attention to wind on every hunt, the hunter that didn't have to pay attention to the wind would have a huge advantage over time. How do you measure their greatness, by the antlers on their walls. You can only measure a hunters greatness against competition and the more advantage you have over your competition, the more you kill and the higher up the pyramid you can be. There is no best hunter though.
