Mid-range/floater area shots are key to keeping the D off balance. If you just shoot 3s and layups, it’s too easy for the defense as they can just close out hard on 3s and rotate to stop the layups
Exactly...my coach hates that I shoot mid range. I can hit 3 balls efficiently and drive to the cup, but mid range is my best and he doesn’t let me use it. In college
@@bradleylove3514 thats why kd is better ofensively or at least far more usefull than harden "in the playoffs"...he has the whole bag,he is the definition of a 3 level scorer, the defense can only guess what he is gonna do every time he attacks. Even if you are the best if the defense knows what you are going to do every time the can adjust their whole defense to that and shut you down eventually.
@@vinuzo9548 yeah but only of his handles and finishing plus they are kind of out of date, their videos form like two three years ago, except the video about the fadeaway. I would like to see a full detailed video about him including his shooting. Basically of just his shooting, but you are right he has done a couple.
As a kid growing up, I never had the strength or distance to shoot a 3 so I caught the ball off the long rebounds in games and shot the short jumper. As I got older, I perfected that shot by the time I was in my 20s. I'm 31 now lol but everything this video broke down, I learned without help. Every detail in this video is EXACTLY accurate and %110 true on all standards. Lost art in the game but HIGHLY effective for guards and players worldwide. Love this video.
@JM I'd say no, only cause you can use the fade away with the short jumper. An example is Kobe, Jordan, DeRozan (just a few names). The mid range (short jumper) is bout free throw line distance, sometimes a step inside. Post players who gotta short jumper most def uses the fade away. An example of short jumper, look at the old Westbrook. Stops on a dime, hesi crossover, etc. Moves for days to set up that short jumper.
This is very effective and high percentage shot. One person you didn't mention who was great at this was Jordan, especially with the hang time he had. I'm going to practice this and add it some more to my game!
If you assume league average 35% x 3 = 1.05 points per attempt, 60% x 2 = 1.2 ppa, and free throws at 75% = 1.5ish ppa, there isn't a lot of room for tough contested pullups like these. I get the necessity of floaters, but I think the game is going to move towards more catch-and-shoot and cutting options, since it's always quicker to cut off ball than to dribble yourself open. The guys who can shoot off the dribble efficiently are so rare, we know them by name - Steph, Dame, Harden, Beal. The thing I don't get is the disappearance of the sky hook as a late shot clock option, which Kareem supposedly drained at a 50-60% rate = 1 to 1.2 ppa, and which Shaq somewhat duplicated later.
You missed the point. Unless you can get a clean shot off. You don't look for this shots. There to be used as bailout shots for when you can't finish near the rim or pass.
people dont realize that the basket is bigger the closer you get, so shooters tend to stay behind the three, but if you get space, midies are way easier even off balance
