    I haven't had any time to run through the Tonex pedal through my PC so I can get used to the naming conventions for the bass amps and cabs... so having them displayed and played in these videos is cool by me!

    I play bass, guitar, and drums. While I haven't done much with the drums, this Tonex pedal is going to be a lifesaver. As it stands, I've been using a Tech 21 Sans Amp RPM pre-amp to get my Geddy Lee sound. I soon will be getting the newest rackmount version of this, the Tech 21 Ged 2112. Even with the ToneX that particular device is great for me. I can't wait to try out the ToneX on the base side of my dual rig. When I play live I have both a guitar rig and a bass rig. My bass rig and what I want to do with it are far simpler than my guitar rig. But ToneX will allow me greater flexibility for my bass rig so I can better sound like the cover music we often play. That goes for the guitar side. I always want to create as close a tribute to a favorite song as possible. But don't have nearly enough money needed to get the different amps needed to have even the most basic level of flexibility Between the Soldano SLO-100 at $,3999. (maybe the 30-watt version is only $2.899, woo hoo), or a well-equipped Marshall JCM 800 (at least $3,000) or even the possibility of getting a good Marshall Plexi, amps are just to expensive.
    Because I want to build my own recording studio, I would need to get many different amps, and guitars, along with other necessary equipment in order for it to be a small quality. ToneX makes that dream a digital reality, and I love it. The opportunities are endless and I won't have to lug a bunch of equipment around. All my amps will be in one small box that can be taken anywhere in my back pack. Just will too bring my pedal board and guitars, and that's it.

    Maybe if I don’t have the stomp I can see this as an option. I can hear most stuff that the helix can do with the features of the tonex. But great demo bro

    That thing really does sound good! If I didn't already have an HX Stomp I would be checking it out more closely. When Line6 brought amp modeling to the market over 20 years ago I experimented with it and I wanted to like it so much, but in the end I never could get a good tone that I liked, and anything overdrive or distortion, IMHO, sounded like complete crud! So I went back to using my trusty ol' SansAmp for direct to house gigs. Nowadays even the cheap modeling devices sound pretty decent, I have a Zoom B1 Four that I bought for headphone practicing and experimentation and was blown away by how good most of the amp, cab and effect models sound. That got me looking into better quality, more pro level modelers and ended up with the HX Stomp.
    Thanks for the review! I wasn't even aware the TONEX existed before I saw this video.

      The Tonex supposedly goes really well with the HX Stomp. Theres a video up on here somewhere. I am a die hard tube amp fan, been using a Mark V 25 for years. I did not really like any modeling at all until I tried Tonex, it really surprised me. You can download it and try everything, it just has white noise periodically until you buy it.

    • @Iuslez
      @Iuslez Рік тому

      honestly, for bass, the stomp beats the tonex by a large margin (i'm a helix user and have been playing with tonex for a few days). flexibility, variety of sounds, parallel routing, fx, etc. The tonex is really limited by itself, especially on bass. you depend on users uploading profiles... which there aren't many for bass (probably 10x or 100x more for guitar).
      Now ofc, tonex+stomp is the best setup you can dream of.

      @@Iuslez Hmmm. I owned the HX Stomp for years (just sold it) and now Tonex. If you compare a good Tonex capture of a classic bass amp such as an SVT or B15 to the HX Stomp, the Tonex wins hands down. That applies for live gigs and studio recording. However, if you need lots of effects, the Stomp is OK for live gigs over Tonex.

    I'm going to take a serious look at this. I'm planning on getting some kind of modeler this year & until now the Stomp has been the main contender. I have that green mxr preamp which is pretty transparent that will solve the xlr thing. Can you use a trs cable? I haven't looked it up. Great review! Thank you Patrick!

    One potential con: not many effects. Maybe they'll add more. But as far as I can tell, it's only reverb, compression, and a noise gate? Feels like they could add half a dozen more effects without really having to alter the pedal at all. I would minimally like to see fuzz, delay, and chorus.

    • @slimkickens
      @slimkickens Рік тому +1

      It can do fuzz pedals, and other kinds of dirt. But it can't do delays and modulation because it captures a tone at a specific time. Delays and modulations change over time, so can't be captured by the tonex software

    • @justsomerandomguyman

      It just lets you load 150 of the captures the plug-in can create onto the pedal with some basic features, like a noise gate, reverb, etc.
      It's more useful for a touring musician, whereas most producers will be fine with the plugin.
