One thing I haven't seen anyone else point out: Segments that don't take place in one of Silas's stories have a stark lack of color, being mostly dark with at most 3 colors visible. I like to imagine this is because Silas is just getting old, but also it could be how Silas enjoys these stories of the past a LOT more than the present he's living.
Fun tid bit. I like to see those bullet holes when you're hit as "Holes being punched" in the story. Like every time you get hit it's less believable until you just lose the story.
It even looks like the bullets are tearing holes in a canvas movie screen, with the light from a projector beaming through or the like. Nice detail I never noticed before, because I was too busy trying to not die and combo it up.
Call of Juarez would have been just a decent arcade shooter, but the narration and interjection from Silas and the peanut gallery make the game incredible. "Is that what that penny dreadful said?", Silas choosing not to go in the mine, Silas going to the bathroom, "O Death". They're all fantastic scenes Also, the Frank James boss fight is the best. Not because of gameplay, but because the resolution is Frank saying "Fuck it, I quit!", and Silas going "Hey, I'm just looking for your brother". Frank doesn't die. He just tells you where Reed is, and you go on your way
Honestly seeing a sponsorship that isn't a Mobile game but instead a new game from a indie company is honestly a refreshing and plus 3:53 that transition is cool
I appreciate the fact that I have never seen you do an ad for something big and easy. It’s always indie games and stuff like that. You seem like the kind of person that would stare the developers of raid shadow legends directly in the face and tell them that you like video games that you actually play.
Might be because I'm from Chile, and this country *loves* Westerns and old Mexican movies, but holy shit I agree with your sentiment. Nothing beats popping the Magnificent Seven to watch with Grandpa on September 18 at the countryside. Ah, irreplaceable memories. But this game that "allegedly" includes all the big Western names forgot Bass Reeves and that frankly is unforgivable, that man is an absolute legend.
I had to cut this video short after being 13 minutes in being impressed with what this game has and don't want to be spoiled on the rest, so congratulations on getting me interested on this game, which is why I thank you for this and another game a while back called "Battlecore Robots" that I hope gets ported to consoles but with Call of Juarez Gunslinger it's on Switch so now I can't wait to play this! UPDATE: I beaten Call of Juarez: Gunslinger & man was it a fun time playing a game about the old west with a fun mechanic to slow down time, getting upgrades taking out enemimes stylishly like something out of BulletStorm, Thanks Bumbles McFumbles for getting me interested in this game!
@@Gammera2000 and why it has my curiosity plus I always do enjoy some cowboys alongside the fact that like Bulletstorm & Madworld, it has a kill skill point system to give you upgrades and that was the factor to sell me on the game
goddamn, I've seen videos about this game a few times before, but this video *really* sold me on it, you made it look incredible. So I went to steam to wishlist it... And its on sale right now for 3 dollars, everyone go buy it
Y'know, I really appreciate that you didn't explicitly draw attention to the whole "I never said his last name" bit and instead put extra emphasis on his last name to be sure we'd notice it. Good writing, there.
Oh this game rules! I love the framing device of Silas telling the story, and using the undocumented parts of the old west to say ”yea silas greaves was there” is so fun
I really liked the script of the sponsorship section. Framing it almost like you're pitching the game to people in upper management made it interesting enough to make me stay and watch what you had to say.
The funnest of fun facts about _The Cartel_ is that it actively and willfully misrepresents the sex trafficking crisis at the border by pretending that it's about Mexican cartels kidnapping American women and not about Americans buying Mexican women _from_ the cartels. It's a level of America-centric madness that just boggles my mind. Good thing Gunslinger went back to the series' roots.
To seek the end of someone’s life for years on end… to carry the weight of losing loved ones… to hold on to an anger so strong it’s a super nova in your own heart… … … only to let go on the final possible moment and forgive & forget… What a tough choice that would be for those kinds of people…
Still remember getting it for the 360 back in the day. I was honestly surprised by how good it felt to play, and how it added little tidbits about the real life people that the game showed. Reading the extra info about the people that you encounter was a really neat touch, and I wish more games did that. The fact that it also changed levels as you played thanks to story being changed on the spot was also incredibly endearing. Thanks for shining a spotlight on this incredible game.
I got this game for free for its tenth anniversary sale on steam, and it been one of my favorite arcade-style shooters ever since. Really happy to see you reviewing it!
This is the closest we'll ever get to a Ride to Hell: Retribution review. Also, a sponsorship! That's cool as hell. You've truly come a long way... thankfully, Raid Shadow Legends-less.
One of the best FPS Spaghetti Western Shooters by Techland. The same dudes who've made Dead Island and Dying Light. To think that this is the the very last game they've made of the Call of Juarez franchise.
What's this? Bumbles reviewing a lesser-known game that I actually know about, have played all the way through, and absolutely loved except for one bullshit fight that I only struggled with in Hard Mode? I'm eating good today.
God, now I'm so tempted to replay this game. I already liked it when I played it a few years back, but the longer I think about it, the better it seems.
I remember Call of Juarez gunslinger as the last ps3 game I’ve finished long after getting a Ps4. I wanted to dust off the old ps3 and get it ready for ebay and just played around with the ps+ membership games I’ve downloaded, but when I started gunslinger, I was hooked within the first couple of minutes. So thanks to this game, my ps3 staid with me for another week. Good times
Got this game on a steam offer for like 5 bucks. Best 5 bucks ever spent. I laughed at the silly story and loved the art style, very fun romp. May have to replay it again soon.
I wasn't really into westerns, and even playing the original red dead redemption I didn't get it. After trying gunslinger it all finally clicked and I fell in love with the setting
Okay that is the correct way to sponsor a video, entice people with what you're going to get, let them know the sponsorship is going to be very brief, don't act like it's the greatest thing in creation, Entice folks to give it a try and boom we're done we can move on to things we're actually here for 🎉. Fantastic job Jack
Holy shit, it's been over 10 years since Gunslinger came out. At least the Call of Juarez series has currently ended on a high note, that three-way shootout is magnificent.
Bomb buster looks like a blast, and i'l definitely give it a look later. Glad to see that we're still living in the indie game golden age... Oh, and the wild west game looks cool too.
I got this game on both ps3 and 360 (god bless backwards compatibility) and man. This game is so god damn good. Its not exactly rich in gameplay but my god its presentation is immaculate.
I already knew about how much this game rules before watching, but the video was worth the runtime, as usual. The way the game mixes exciting gameplay with a funny and even touching narrative is something I haven't seen done quite as well by anything yet. Oh, and the crack about Eisenhower at the end was a top tier history joke.
I recall back when it launched i played the demo on steam and the moment i jumped the roof and shot everyone in the head mid air while a sick ass western theme played in the background i was sold on it. Not even a week later i was buying it with the little money i had and back then it was my fav fps (doom 2016 and eternal took its place later). One of the few good memories i have from that time.
This review couldn't have come at a better time because not only did this want me to get the game, but the ENTIRE Call of Juarez series is on sale at the time of this video's release for like $7.
I remember beating this game and choosing the Revenge ending and hoo boy i had shivers That whole ending made it feel like i sold my sole to the devil like I've sealed my fate god what a good game
I got this game coz' of that one time Steam was giving it away for free, I was like "yeah sure why not" and welp, it's still there on my Steam library, uninstalled. If I get a good-enuff PC, might as well finally give the game a chance thanks to this video.
Speaking of western shooting galleries, the game 'Wild Guns' is one that I recommend. It is an arcade style game, where you pick one of four characters and go to town against hordes of baddies. One of the characters you can use is a Dashund, who comes with an flying drone that lies down serious firepower. A big part of the game is the choice of either dodging attacks or shooting down bullets to fill up a power meter. Very good fun, that is only tarnished by the lack of a save system and tying available stages to difficulty level. If you got friends, spending an afternoon on saving the Old West will be a good time.
Look, logically peaking, this is being listened to like a story, how many people can realistically imagine different cowboy towns? There's a super solid but also STUPID ass justification I've come up with.

Bumbles using the X4 Warning Siren SFX for the sponsorship transition gave me so much PTSD I thought I was about to go Mavrick hunting.
The Boss Battle theme started playing in my head so quickly after it took me a moment to realize it wasn't actually in the video itself. 😅
