  • Testing the new Fast-Charging USB-C Cable which comes with the Apple Watch Series 7 on previous generation Apple Watches including the Series 6, SE, Series 5, 4, and 3. Plus, one interesting thing about charging the Series 7 with the older USB type-A charging cable. Thanks for watching!

    Thanks for doing this exhaustive test Des. One suggestion though: this really could use a graph to show the various charging times. You moved so quickly through all of them it was hard to track which was which and how fast it charged. I was also interested in the new vs the old usb c charging puck (not just to old usb a puck.

    I have one recommendation could you do a test of 0-50% charging speeds?
    the way lithium ion batteries work, they charge exponentially faster at a low state of charge. once they get to about 70-80% they rapidly drop off in charging times.
    for example it could literally take 1hr from 0-80% and 1 additional hr 80-100%
    so I believe the new fast charger would really only benefit small bursts of extra charge. eg: 0-50% on series 7 is 15m and 0-50% on series 6 is 30m

    • @YTYTYTY7
      @YTYTYTY7 2 роки тому +1

      20-80% to be more realistic usage range. I have been doing that twice a day for about 20-30 minute charging each time for 7.

    It seems like the SE or 7 would be best in this case. The SE as you get 1.5 hours charging on any USB device, and most "affordable" charging pucks use under 5W PD (2-3w commonly) that would make Series 7 much slower to charge than the SE (40 min approx slower). The 7 would be optimal f you have carry the Apple USB-C puck and/or more expensive ones (e.g Belkin). I'm equally shocked, I looked at other reviews to confirm but it seems everyone has some big differences in speed. I trust your video since it is so comprehensive. I may end up getting the SE instead of the 7, have the 8 now and feel like it's overkill.

    What camp does the Magsafe Duo charger fall in? It uses a lightning cable, but they recommend using a USB-C to lightning cable with a 20w brick. Will the S7 charge as slow if not slower than the S5 on the Duo charger? I can't find any videos in which they test charging speeds on the Magsafe Duo.

    • @Kernal_Pan1c
      @Kernal_Pan1c 2 роки тому

      You know the very first time I charged my series 7 on the duo I felt like it charged slower than my series 6. The next day I tried the fast charger for the first time and yea it’s faster than anything previously as to be expected. I’m back to using the duo and I still “feel” like it’s charging abnormally slower. Someone needs to rest this for real.

    In India, Apple has disabled the fast charging on the watch series 7. Any idea how much time it will take to fully charge the watch with normal charging. I am already using Fenix 5 for the past 5 years and it still holds on for at least 2 weeks. If spending 2.5 hours every day on just charging is the case, the change from Fenix 5 to series 7, will it be worth it?

    My wife has a series SE apple watch that came with a usb c charging cable that plugs into the wall plug box. It worked for several weeks but recently it stopped working. I looked at it and could see inside the wall plug box that the male pins were so thin that they got bent, likely because she tried to plug the usb c plug end into the wall plug box the wrong way. If that is what happened the design is faulty and those pins are wat too thin. thoughts and / or suggestions?

    • @DesFit

      That’s BMR, basically the calories needed to survive at a resting state. All watches should take this into account.

    I've got the Series 7 41 as well and I actually purposely don't use the fast charger that came with it because I want battery health to remain in top condition for 3 years, because that's how long I keep them before upgrading. I owned the Series 4 44mm for 3 years and in that time, battery health had dropped to 86%. Keeping in mind I charged it every evening to full with the USB-A charger, the fast charger of the Series 7 would most definitely degrade it faster. I really wouldn't want to have to pay 95€ to replace my battery in 3 years.
    I think battery health is especially important when it comes to the Apple Watch because the Apple Watch already has such a small battery which lasts 1 day if you use sleep tracking, do a workout and do one or 2 calls.
    I strongly suggest to NOT use the fast charger unless you really need to juice up very quickly.
    Great video as always.

      I had a Series 4 before I upgraded to the Series 6 last year, and I had my Series 4 for 2.5 years before I upgraded to the 6..My Series 4 still had 100% battery health..I don’t use sleep tracking so I turned it off every night and only charged it like every other day..did the same with my Series 6 and now doing the same with my Series 7

    • @anthonyanthony2783
      @anthonyanthony2783 2 роки тому

      @@MikeyBats I really think your Apple Watch or its battery or software has/had an issue then. My mom had the same issue of the OS telling her her iPhone 6S Plus battery was still at 100% after 2 years of use while she herself noticed it doesn't last as long as it used to. If you'd told me around 93-94% I could just believe it but 100%? Something's gotta be wrong here...

    • @MikeyBats
      @MikeyBats 2 роки тому

      @@anthonyanthony2783 if your mom’s iPhone 6 battery has been changed ever, then it would still say 100% but still die quick. The iPhone would recognize the new battery battery but will function like it’s not…both my Series 4 and Series 6 still had 100% battery health after a year, could be because I took good care of them?..lol..I dunno
