When shopping for my engagement ring, my fiance had control over the diamond. Of course he wanted to get me the largest and best quality stone he could afford. But I had full control over the setting (as it should be). Originally I intended to get a white gold semi mount, with 2 small side stones but no stones on the band. I did not want a plain band or a pave band. Well, I did find a beautiful Verragio semi mount with two16pt side stones on a platinum band. The band had a sculptural design, with no stones on the band, which I had never seen before (its been 20 years and I still haven't seen that kind of band since). I loved it. But there were 2 cons. One....it was in platinum so it cost more thus less money for the center diamond. Two, it didn't come with matching band. And I wanted a matching band that sat flush with it. So, we had it made. An all platinum band with the sculptural design with no stones. Then I had it soldered to the engagement ring after we were married. Sometimes people need to be reminded or alerted that they can have a custom band made for their dream engagement ring.
