Trash Wood To Treasure - DIY Epoxy Cutting Board / Serving Board

  • I made this DIY epoxy inlaid cutting / serving board with steel metal handles using a cut off from a reclaimed wood pin oak slab. This epoxy cutting board / serving board features cut outs for two whiskey (or tea) glasses, and three cut outs for hor d'oeuvres. I used Total Boat 2:1 epoxy for the inlays which I tinted turquoise. I used my X-Carve from Inventables to create the cut outs in this DIY epoxy cutting board / serving board. At the end of the video I address whether or not epoxy can be food safe. Thanks for watching! Check out my other epoxy projects.

    It’s actually 20% off of Total Boat products at www.totalboat.com/ using code JBUILDS. (I goofed in the video and said 10%)

      Jonny Builds Doh! I just ordered some epoxy from Total Boat a couple of days ago, wish I would have had the 20% off. Also, just wondering why you use the 2:1 instead of the 5:1?

      What is the open time on the one you used?

    • @JonnyBuilds
      @JonnyBuilds  5 років тому +1

      2:1 is much more clear, you can repour after an hour, and I’ve used it multiple times with consistent, great results.

    • @dalemartin7886
      @dalemartin7886 5 років тому

      Jonny Builds thanks for that information. I went ahead and ordered some 2:1 even though I've already got some 5:1 on the way. I'll use the 5:1 when I'm using a dark tint when clarity doesn't matter as much. Thanks again, I look forward to your next project.

    The first half of the ua-cam.com/users/postUgkx3ICSK6nSknaL_45CU2NmFSoXjarGMDiJ book is everything about wood: types, tools, finishes, setting up shop etc. The second half is all about doing projects for inside and outside of the home. The color pictures are helpful. After reading a dozen of these types of books, this is probably the best overall (layout, color photos, plans). Only detraction is that many of the projects use a table saw/router/planer, which are usually expensive and take up space, so the plans are less friendly to newcomers and the budget conscious. But I know I can use a drill, circular saw or a jigsaw to make the projects.

    Easily one of my favorite serving boards I've ever seen. I just cut up about 70 walnut serving boards (for Christmas gifts) to work on this year and I'll be using this as a guide for a few of them. Great work. I love it.

    Love your videos. Love the projects, the results, the small bits of humor you filter in, and the fact that you made something like this for a gift exchange. I love creating stuff but don't want my house filled with little projects as it would eventually get full. So that sounds like a great opportunity.

      Then save up. I started 5 years ago with a $70 craigslist miter saw and a $60 dewalt orbital sander and built ana white furniture. I now have a shed filled with some nice tools (I always buy used). Unless you have a lot of money it's hard to get instant gratification when you start off in wood working. You can easily build this with hand tools, it will just take a lot longer.
