I think it's funny some of these comments. For all we really know, the person they are putting this in for might now have wanted the padding. Not in their budget. I don't think that would be TMI's problem myself. Granted, they should say something about the padding since TMI does sell those kits as well. My 73 Super Beetle had all the original padding and headliner in it when I started my restoration. There was hot glue every where when I pulled all of it out. So JosephDR stating plain wrong is plain wrong. Hot glue was invented in 1954 and used all through the automotive industry. Sound would have been nice. But I rather this over having stupid background music. Thanks TMI for these videos.
No padding. Using a metal hammer on the fabric against metal grippers. Hot glue. These are things NOT to do when installing a headliner. Padding will help with noise level in the cabin, hide the grippers, and looks better. Use a rubber mallet wrapped in a plastic bag so that you will not mark the headliner while banging on the grippers. Hot glue is just plain wrong. Globby and stringy.

Is the hot glue you use anything special or are you just using a general for tacking down edges?
