It is a bit of a stupid system when yuh think of it, having the chains hanging out scratching it all up. Not sure about there but here I see some have the chains in a clear hose type thing.

Garden hose makes a good chain wrap
A new set of plastic covered tailgate cables are cheap. 10-20 bucks. 😉✌

Can I resist Joe, how about a clothes hangers wrapped in hockey stick tape dressed up with some stick on chrome.
Getting older does physically.... suck for sure.
I have to figure out the chain latch system on my 64 ford. It’s a 4x4 so it’s a wrong bed truck. So it’s a late 50s bed.
