After watching this video Ariana tweeted that it gave her chills and she was in tears at the end. She also said that she had forgotten how many songs she had done.
Unfortunately not. They used to be. They don’t claim they are live, and it’s clear from Kevin and matts positions away from the microphones that it’s not live. Matt moves away from the microphone and the bass stays the same volume etc. I know they can do this live perfectly. But there is no upside to doing this live for the video, and they pre record all their evolutions these days because they are more professional and want better quality. For example 3:18 (in the music video) matts mouth is taking a breath but the bass note keeps going.
@@Ptxlive That is absolutely not what is happening at 3:18 in the official Pentatonix video (ua-cam.com/video/POme133PQAg/v-deo.html). Listen to the note - he's exhaling on the lowest part before he takes a breath and that's just what you hear in the video. The note goes "Ohhh-uh" as he moves down to the lower note, then breathes. These are live.
@@JacobRestituto Yeah, I've heard that they record these with the two close mics for the bass & beatbox, then out of frame there are directional mics aimed at the trio.
I've heard them say that it doesn't take them too long to get the parts and who is singing what figured out, like a day or two. Also, I believe most Pentaholics think they aren't human at all, especially Mitch! They're either aliens or angels. 🤣
They (and Superfruit) record many of these live videos at the Endless Noise Studio. The studio people once commented that Pentatonix come to the studio so well prepared that they only need three or four takes, and all are perfect takes. They do several only because somebody wants to sing something differently and the fourth take is because they just want to see if they can do it better. Great reaction as always Jacob. To answer your statement, "it seems to perfect." This is because of their work ethic and time together. It's absolutely live, but it is recorded. They do use a boom mic above the other singers, and they can tweak the volumes if needed. They also perform most of the evolution videos live in concert. They are brilliant, to be able to remember small clips from 20+ songs, and the order they are in. On the other hand - if you listen to enough of these, when you hear one of the songs, your mind goes right into the next. Other great evolution videos are Evolution of Michael Jackson, Evolution of Beyonce and Evolution of Rihanna.
I'm glad you recognize the goodness of the bass (Matt Sallee). It took quite awhile for fans to accept his talent and the new energy that he has brought to the group
On the sing off 10 yrs ago their 4th or 5th performance together ever they changed songs midway through the week to a song their friends from the group Sonos were supposed to sing but they had gotten eliminated so they wanted to honor them by singing Sonos choice! So I'm sure that anything they do now they probably break down and arrange fairly quickly? I think you'd really enjoy their Sing Off journey?
