- I recently purchased the Canon R6 as my new A-camera for short films and documentary work. I wanted to put it to the test and see how the Clog 10 bit footage would hold up as well as the low light cabablitlies. Needless to say, I am very impressed and this this is a great camera for a beginner-pro cinematographer. I'll try and do a full review once I have more footage.
Waves is a quick on the spot concept piece I came up with while filming these shots. Its about the mysterious disappearances of locals around a lake. Couldn't afford a lake monster though. Who knows maybe one day I'll come back to it.

Lens: Sigma 24-70 f2.8

Finally someone who understands what "cinematic" is. People use this term on the title but it's just random images or the city hahaha

Thank you so much Richard! I’m glad my little film was helpful for you! I just posted a new series of clips I took with the R6 the other day from a hike with one of my buddies. I shot it at 60fps in harsher sunlight. Might be helpful if your interested in the slow motion and dynamic range of the R6.

Really interested in this camera for photo and video. What has your experience been with overheating when shooting 4k?
I haven’t shot in 4K too much to be honest. I want to do more for future projects. The 1080p is honestly really great though! When I did use 4K overheating wasn’t a problem for how I shoot. I usually do short takes and turn the camera off intermittently. Long format stuff I’ll shoot in 1080p, mostly for file sizes though. If you do weddings and want to shoot primarily in 4K I can see a possible issue in overheating. The camera is incredible none the less though. I highly recommend it for anyone looking for a pro-hybrid system.
How are u finding the R6 ? As I commented on your video a bit back saying the t7i does a great job but I am now upgrading to the R6. Is it a good upgrade from the t7i. Great video btw.

Awesome! Do you like the Sigma paired with the R6? I am actually looking into this combo currently. How is the AF performance?
The R6 works perfectly with my Sigma 24-70. Autofocus is still really fast and accurate. A few misses here and there, but it was most likely due to exposure not the lens. The image quality out of Sigmas has always impressed me and the 24-70 is no different. And it’s a pretty hefty lens so it’s great for keeping the camera stable handheld. Only negative is gimbal balancing. On my Weebill S it’s hard to get a good balance since the lens is heavy, but I’m sure a larger gimbal like a ronin would have no problem. I still highly recommend the lens though. It’s affordable and great quality. Can’t go wrong with it!
@@EricMaloneyFilmmaker Thanks for your thorough explanation! Do you highly recommend the upgrade over Canon's 24-70 f2.8 (MK I)? Also it's good you mention the gimbal, I myself own a Weebil S too, but think I will mostly use my RF 35 and 50mm in combination with the gimbal, also due to overall handling the weight. The 24-70 is my run & gun, handheld, workhorse.
P.S. Do you mind sending me a photo of the lens mounted on the R6? I can't seem to find a photo of this exact setup. Really curious how the size compares to my Canon.

@@Sunrise017 No problem! I would highly recommend getting it over the canon mk1. Optics should be vastly better as well as autofocus speed and the sigma has image stabilization which pairs with ibis in the r6 makes for some stable handheld footage. And sure thing on sending you a picture of the R6/lens combo. How would you like me to send you the picture?
@@EricMaloneyFilmmaker I've been searching all over for this exact answer, strongly considering this combo. Does the IS in the lens work decently? I was wandering if it causes issues paired with the ibis because it's third party. Thanks!
@@joshvoigt7505 IS works great! Not RF lens paired with ibis great, but still works really well for handheld work. No performance issues paired with ibis at all. If you are looking for an affordable, all arounder lens then I highly recommend the sigma
Hi - do you think its worth shooting clog 10 bit in 1080 with the R6. I shoot hybrid content totally for social media.
100% 👍The 1080 footage is really high quality and clog 10 bit makes it great for color grading. If your computer can handle it or you have time for proxies I would also recommend the 4K, but 1080 should do perfectly.
@@EricMaloneyFilmmaker does the 10 bit increase dynamic range or is that clog only.
@@markshirley01 clog would be what increases your dynamic range to about 12 stops of light. Canon should be adding clog 3 soon which will bring it up to about 14 stops of dynamic range if I’m correct. 10 bit is the color depth. So if you are doing any color grading you can push the grade pretty far without messing with the image quality.
@@EricMaloneyFilmmaker last question (im nikon 🙂) is clog 3 easier to grade.
@@markshirley01 lol you’re all good! For easiest grading regular clog is probably the go to, but clog3 shouldn’t be that difficult either. If you use the wave forms on your editing software while you color correct then grading in any log profile should be pretty painless.
