This is definitely a dog. Cute and fluffy. 12/10 would give scratches.
He looks awfully guilty about something
Great stuff. Really enjoyed being able to film some spr goodness.
we're only taking a break. Once I get my head out of my ass. It's SMK OTM and 1000 yards! (maybe)
Really appreciate your videos because you really go into the perspective and mission for each rifle. Please keep up the good work
will do. Thanks!
This is a quality channel. I expect it to be at 100k subs in 6 months. The level of content is like you’ve been doing this for years. Keep it up, bro.
Deserves way more. I have noticed a sad and frustrating inverse relationship between informative and appreciated/subbed/watched - might not only be guntubers, but it is certainly a thing. I think it may be slowly changing, or at least, I hope so.
@Hans Stein prepare to be proven wrong.
Are you high? No gun UA-cam channel will acquire that many followers that quickly
Hi (six months later)
@@joshthompson3088 I was about to do the same thing but it's a shame his prediction didn't happen this channel should be way popular then it is
I went to a mid range rifle course at Thunder Ranch and there there 2 guys using 5.56 ARs. They did better than most in the class.
I used an AR15 in grendel. All three of us were the on,y AR15 shooters and most were using 6.5 creedmore. It was a great class that had many people rethinking their mid range rifle choices.
Edited to add. I used a razor gen III and was one of on,y two able to hit a 6 inch square target at 950 yds (took me only 2 shots as the spotter was great). As well as long range, the positional shooting with my lpvo was much better than others too. As I was able to turn it all the way down.
As to bipods. Clint and one of the instructors said they’ve seen too many of the magpul bipods shear off their legs but there were a couple in the class and there weren’t any failures .
I use the GGG bipod and think it is the best. I have 2 different Atlas and one Harris, had a magpul but felt it was too flimsy.
Check out the GGG light duty bipod.
What you said is spot on. Good training there at that place too. Even though a bit heavy, I prefer the Atlas and a LaRue mount, best I ever used. Nothing like an 18" spr Mk12. I have a Mod 1. If I want CQB I swap uppers to a 11.5" So easy to do with an SBR. If I want to travel I either notify or take an identical lower and ditch the cqb and take a 16". Works for me. 6.5 is over rated to me. Only superior past 600 yds vs 308. Beyond 800 I wouldn't use either, and go 300wm or 338. Nobody in the field is gonna have it either if you need to revert to sourcing other's ammo. Out to 300 I can do sbr. Out to 800 I'm fine with Mk262 and a Mk12 Mod 1. 600 out I'll take a 338 AI-AWM-M. Beyond 2k I wished I had a 408 Cheytac and a prism. That would be sweet. Better to get up closer anyway though.
😂 I'd like to see how somebody "sheared the legs off" their magpul bipod. Like they just spontaneously came off.
I defffffffinitely believe that.
@AldoSchmedack ..literally every PRS shooter disagrees.
6:30 It warms the heart to hear someone else call this out.
I figured this one out on my own a while back, picked up a few OK Industries 20 rd mags for (1) the aesthetic, and (2) mid/long range shooting from prone.
1.5 w/ ball ammo consistently is really nice. Great overview man.
Barrel profile, length and harmonics are the cheapest way to accurize a gun across most ammunition.
Not necessarily a bull barrel, generally a barrel that tapers appropriately. So can also get a decent weight to accuracy. I've not analyzed how fluting contributes yet, but assume it's a net positive.
Great video, cheers.
My concept for a bull barrel is what I call a "defend the farm" gun, preferably an AR-10 purposefully loaded down with crap for defending a fixed position and using it as a substitute for a fixed machine gun, as a heavy precision gun can be used in a similar role
I swapped my lower with a KE arms polymer lower to save weight. Although it is not adjustable I find that that I like the m-16 stock length and it works well in my body armor. Shaved off about a pound from my system which is similar to yours. I also like to have an arca-swiss adapter plate installed on the rear of my handguard where it wont get in the way, but I can attach it to a very steady camera/tri-pod.
How does it balance?
@@borkwoof696 I have an optic that weighs 24 ounces on the upper so most of the weight is in the middle centered on the receiver. If you are wondering if the balance is conducive to shoulder firing while standing or kneeling, then the answer is yes you can do it easily. It still has the drawbacks of being a large rifle with a large optic on it though, so I shoot off my bipod most of the time.
I did the same but with a 20" FNA4 DMR upper. Echo nine3 customs offers a stock shortening service similar to position 4 on a collapsible stock that KE Arms will warranty. Unfortunately their guy for doing that is constantly out on deployment with no email alert service (I missed the last two chances, next one is in june)
Next upgrade: carbon fiber hand guard?
Happened across your channel pretty recently and I’m really glad I did. The quality of your videos is great, the music choice is appropriate for your calmly detailed presentation, and you seem really knowledgeable. Keep up the good work and I’m sure you’ll grow tremendously.
thanks man, welcome onboard
Hop sent me, I watch, I like, I sub. Your logic and reason of that build are great. It is hard to argue against any choice here.
Sweet build. Your SPR videos convinced me I needed to upgrade my 18" from a 1-8 Credo to the 2-10x36, and add the bipod. Should be solidly sub-MOA with some IMI razor core.
Love all your new stuff. This is still one of my favorite videos. A true classic.
Bull barrels have a place with the SOF guys due to the fact that they realisticly expect to be outnumbered from the start. Thiis leads to tactics that rely on high volumes of fire with little backup. If that's you, then the accuracy and heat resistance are worth every ounce. If not, then you will be very happy with a lighter rifle.
The only two rifles I'm running anything above a government profile on as far as my ARs go is my 10.5" pistol and my AR10. The pistol is a 7.62x39, and the AR10 is a precision rifle. The pistol is a budget build, and the whole upper assembly came from Bear Creek Arsenal. It holds some of the tightest groups I've ever seen out to 100 yds, and that's for the same reason I ran an HBAR on my AR10. Harmonics.
They're both fairly heavy for what they are, but the pistol is still very maneuverable. Shooting the pistol indoors with a brake is like getting hit with a flashbang though 🤣 I'm eventually planning on form 1ing a dedicated lower, and a suppressor for it and turning it into an SBR.
With the right hand loads, I can hit a golf ball with the 308 out to 300 yards.
Government profile barrels are more than enough for your standard rifle, though. The only way I'd run anything heavier would be if I planned on buying a transferrable m16 lower and doing a full auto build. Unfortunately, I don't have $40,000 to piss away on a rifle, and I'm salty enough about the thoughts of paying the ATF the tax stamps required to convert my pistol build, much less paying for an SOT/FFL licensure.
Whole reason I went with criterion’s “core” series. Nice and light but won’t instantly open up after five rounds
I went heavy for that reason and better accuracy after heating. Less warp.
I built my SPR with a LaRue 18” Stealth which is heavier profile. With my match reloads it shoots .6 MOA, with 193/855 it’s 1.25 MOA. Keep up the good work.
What optic you have chose?
Vortex Viper PST 3-15.
About what I get with a heavy barrel DD 18" S2W. Worth the weight!
Mine is more of a budget build but it has the 223 wylde chamber 1/7 twist. I'm getting consistent 10 shot groups of 1.4 MOA at 100M with M193 but when I try m855 it's all over the place. I've never had much luck with m855 in any rifle now that I think about it.
Love your channel. I'm a little late to the discussion, but man, I have to agree with you on the weight issue. In the Army (way.... back in the day) we had been issued M16A2 with the heavy barrel, and the added weight of that stupid barrel made a gigantic difference. I don't feel it was any more accurate, because I was breathing so heavy I couldn't keep the rifle still anyway. 😂
Man the terrain out there would make me feel really exposed. Good on you guys for training in that environment. I train in Maine, we are lucky to find a spot to shoot over 300 yards
I just built a upper with a bcm reciever and larue stealth barrel. Topped it off with a trijicon credo 2x10x36. I’m excited to dabble in the long range game
It's my training zone. I wouldn't actually go out there if anything went down. It's desert and flies. My actual "operational area" would be urban, or heavily brushed mountains.
I like the setup and it’s similar to my SPR build. BCM 18” SS upper, spikes lower, fixed A1 stock, SSAE trigger, ZeroFail BCG, K2 grip, PA 2.5-10 Raptor scope, LaRue SPR mount, Harris bipod on MWI qd mount, Streamlight HLX. Your comments on accuracy are correct, there is a lot of internet BS going on. I can and have got sub MOA groups with 77gr match out of mine but i mostly shoot 55gr and it’s a 1.5” gun all day. Had i to do it all over again, I might have went 16” and a adjustable stock to save weight. I plan on upgrading bipod soon.
Look good about 300-400y? Chevron or donut don't cover? Not better have 3-18?
I like what you did with your build. I went on the opposite end of the spectrum for one of my SPR builds, it's a bull barrel 26" build with the seekins receiver/handguard assembly
It's the most accurate 556 rifle I own currently, first time shooting 77grain smk handloads through it was a .42" 5 shot group.
I have another SPR build, this time it is actually designed as a special purpose receiver. It is a part of a system of uppers I made around a particular lower receiver. For this one I decided to make it more closer to what you have, but my profile barrel is heavier. It's the ballistic advantage 18" SPR profile. Still shoots great, certainly not to the others level, but they are fundamentally completely different SPRs.
One is an SPR meant for stretching a 5.56 semi auto to its extreme edge at the cost of practicality.
The other SPR is a field able long range 5.56 rifle.
.42 is awesome! Well done!
I kind of shot the difference between yours. A 18” white oak that I shoot supressed and used the seekins handguard. That flat bottom is amazing for resting on a bag and with a supressor and an a2 balances really well. I also did they super heavy thing but went up to an m5 with a compass lake 6.5 creed barrel. It’s a lot of fun also.
I like long range gas guns they are a hoot to shoot
Just found y'all. Been devouring the content. Thanks for all the great work!
I’ve watched this video at least two times now and decided to take my SPR out to distance with PMC XTAC 55gr M193. I wasn’t expecting much, but like you said in this video using it as a tool to read the wind helped a lot, and I think I did that fairly well. I also got my muzzle velocity wrong (no chrono). I was going off of 2900fps and kept hitting just a little high and had to dial it back down and come to find out I should’ve been using 3000fps and where I was dialing to after hitting high is where I was for 3000fps. I was able to make fairly consistent hits out to 600 yards easily and after I found out to put 3000fps instead of 2900fps into my ballistic calculator, I tried one at 700 yards (couldn’t hit it at all nor see impacts or splash earlier in the day), and to my surprise I hit it first try. I tried 5 more rounds and got close but I was still very happy. Of course I learned my mistake towards the end of my range trip so ammo was low. I’m in the same boat as you with not having a ton of money to spend on gucci ammo and stockpile it cause it’s just so much. PMC is very affordable and available in my area and I will probably just continue to stockpile it for the near future. Great content
i love seeing you go down the rabbit hole around a build.
id love to see a comparison of this optic to the 4-16 glx
Just bought the 4-16 myself. Just don’t need the low end I have found with Holosun red dot. 16 probably too much but who cares😂
I managed to do an 18" SPR build that weighed in at a surprisingly 9.3 lbs with an empty magazine and bipod. Have a balistic advantage 223 wylde heavy spr barrel that's 41oz and a 15" handguard. Guess I made up for it with a 1 inch vortex scope that's fairly lightweight. Good video thanks for the info
Im transitioning my 16 inch to something very similar. I just picked up the glx 2.5-10 waiting on an adm recon mount.
Currently its sporting a t2, .
Great rifle over the past few years aproaching 60k round down several pipes . And many parts. Its been quite a journey.
I decided to go a very similar route as you. Seeing as how i have 2 16 inch atm. And a 12.5.
Might as well cover different roles 🤷
But im excited to step into this arena too.
same here
Congrats on the 10k! Longtime viewer not sure how it taken this long keep up the great work!!!!
thanks for getting in on the ground floor; you dah man.
"people like watching them."
Yes we do, and I'm glad you enjoy making them.
You deserve way more subscribers.
thanks man!
I put together a similar build a couple years ago. White Oak 18" SPR 1:8 .223 Wylde barrel, Aero S One 15" rail, SilencerCo ASR brake (SilencerCo Saker K suppressor), Magpul bipod (on an ADM QD release) and sling, Streamlight ProTac HL-X light, B5 Sopmod stock, Magpul K2+ grip. Trigger is the Geissele SDC and I'm running the Athlon Helos BTR 2-12x42 FFP rifle scope with a offset Holosun 509T on an Arisaka mount.
I'm also getting about 1.5-1.7 MOA groups consistently with Wolf Gold, American Eagle, and PMC Bronze. I handload the Hornady 75gr BTHP to 2800 fps and I get consistent .75 groups from that. 300-700 yards all day 700-1000 is shockingly consistent as well. I'm able to punch milk jugs at about 1100 inside of 5 shots on a decent day. I cannot second the 20 rounds mags for prone shooting enough, a very often overlooked but important bit of knowledge.
Rocking an Nx8 2.5-20, Im very happy with it and target acquisition is still very fluid
Are those sfp?

No quad, sad. Thanks for the foot reveal. Big ups, good info, chaos, etc.
lobster build win?
I personally went with a 4-16 arken on my 20 inch spr. I live in brushy AZ hills, I figured target ID is more important than a 2.5x low end and light weight. Plus I don't ever expect to shoot at a target more than 12 inches wide considering how much cover there is around. 20 inch govt. Profile barrel to make use of 55 grainers and still expect decent kinetic energy. I prefer 69 grain otm to give me a great compromise between velocity and wind characteristics
It's more or less a rifle I can grab when things go farther than 500
Im so torn between that Arken and other choices...those Arkens are heavvyyyy
@@atranimecs it's heavy asf, but it makes shots at 500yd+ easy as hell
Why chose more magnification then 10x?
you make me want to play Rimworld every time I watch, thanks
do it. Go down the path of "just a little bit"
and then spend 15hrs straight on a rimworld playthrough.
no ragrets
I love the detail you put behind these, sound reasoning as always!
Love the 20 round mags for prone with my spr. The only issue I've found is finding a chest rig to fit them. I generally run 30 rounders in my chest rig, then put a couple of the old school alice pouches on my belt with 3 20 rounders in each short mags for precision, standard for fighting. Lol, hope we never have to test our theories
try a pair of socks in the bottom of the mag pouch.
@@frigglebiscuit7484Was gonna say same, that way you have spare clean socks too. Fire tinder if ya want. Lots of uses. Light weight. May as well use what ya got.
Fantastic POU/build detail, Mr. Facts. And please include more Brass Hound in all videos as he is an awesome helper! I had the same idea of using the Kinetic Dev pic-to-MLOK quick adapter to make my Magpul bipod removable, but in practice, it keeps popping off when I lean into the gun. I think it might be too much weight overcoming the tiny springs holding the retractable “tabs” into the MLOK slot.
I've seen the thumbnail a few times. And it got me thinking about painting my rifle "safety orange" (yeah, almost 80s neon). Somehow I know I'd get in trouble for it from one group or another! LOL
Just came across your channel the other day, love your content man

great review, i run geissele in all my rifles, both single and two stage. strike eagle 1x8 first gen, 1x6 second gen and on 13.9 build i have a vortex viper 2 1x6, the glass on the viper is really nice.
You knew I’m in the process of building my SPR and have been rewatching your other SPR vids…you shouldn’t have
I did it just for you
Definitely a needed tool in the safe IMO. Yes we don't IMAGINE getting into an engagement out to 400+ but to have the capability anyway, is a must.
Running a very similar SPR setup. Started from a DDM4 v11 and added a Larue 2 stage MBT trigger (which is so crispy), Swampfox Arrowhead 1-8, Vortex Crossfire red dot offset, Harris Bipod, Arisaka light with a EXT2 malkoff head, running 77gr OTM in 20rd Hex mags...overall its a bit heavy but not overly so. It's a tack driver with sub MOA groups all day. I think total weight of kit and SPR with a packed Eberlestock Renegade on the back is 40lb.
In what practical scenario do you imagine a civilian shooting out to 400+ yards? I honestly can’t, short of LE engaging a very specific sort of active shooter.
Let’s not confuse “because we want to” with “because we need to.”
@@jamesharding3459 I’d say the state of the world and the trajectory of where things are going is justification enough. If there is an immediate threat on my land that is observable with glass, I’m taking the shot. Whether that’s a group of starving armed people, or a predator.
@@turnitdowntyler You’d shoot someone simply because they might be a threat to you? That’s…genuinely concerning, honestly. _Highly_ concerning. *A MOST BASED UPLOAD, MY LORD*
A MOST BASED COMMENT, MY THANE
Went against my judgment and used yours, I spend a good 2 months looking for an optic for my 16" and after so much damn research I pulled the trigger on it.
Im just going to have to remember illumination blows in the daylight.
Great video bro! I am completing my build today if my badger COMM gets finally damn delivered! I was dying for a long distance 14.5 DD block 2 esc foldable SPR to put in a backpack. I’m most notably excited about my optic choice! Never heard of anyone using it yet for this kind of build but I’ll report to everyone how it goes (only concern is eye relief). I went with a nightforce NX8 2.5-20 FFP MilC reticle. This sucker will slay if I can manage the 10th an inch less eye relief
The biggest issue with pencil barrels was POI shift as they got hot. The M16 was notorious for this (InRange showed a 6" change up and right at 100 yards. with an SP1 That's an 8.4 MOA shift!) . But modern barrels can be made way better than what we had in the 1960s. A thinner barrel will always open its group up more than a thicker barrel over a string of fire, but as long as the barrel doesn't POI shift it's not really a huge deal.
Thats why i went with a medium tapered custom profile. Heavy where the barrel needs to be to dissipate heat and thinner to save weight at the end. Criterion Barrels Core series was worth the 5-6 month wait, keeps things tight.
Nice build. Well thought out and well balanced for extending effective range on nato ammo. More magnification may be more better. Can't hit what ya can't see, mostly.
You should point out the importance of Reticle choice in an SPR as well.
Ideally everyone should be running MIL (MilRadian) or MOA for ease of communicating wind drift/come ups. Unless you're a PRS shooter most use MIL.
Mil adjustments are easier too. 3 mil is 30 clicks 5.7 is 57 etc etc
I only use moa or mil. Prefer mil.
Is that a Mystery Ranch Assault Pack I see? I love mine. It is my "get home/bug out" option. My wife calls it my purse because I take it everywhere.
That is a well thought out rifle, and it obviously works for you in its intended role.
The video reached perfection at :27 and went downhill from there. The rifle is cool, the dog is probably cooler and does awesome dog stuff.
I'm easing into the reality of peaking when I just upload 13min of my dog.
@@BrassFacts bet you won’t
Was gonna subscribe anyway after coming from the podcast with Hop, but was sold as soon as I heard the rimworld music
I'm a huge fan of medium fluted profile barrels.
Criterion core 16-in mid and hand load for it you'll have the best possible loads you can get with money and as many of them as you want to make and a lightweight.3 MOA Barrel that won't pop during full auto or extreme use perfect barrel for the AR platform
I shoot my match conditioned AR in 1000 yard Long Range Service Rifle Competition and 600 yard mid range competition. These are iron sight sling supported prone events. It’s fun stuff because there’s some difficulty with it, that’s to say great scores require good wind counters.
I'm calling bullshit on this... ain't no way you're shooting 1000 yards in a competition with an iron sight equipped AR and making any kind of consistent hits outside of pure luck. You're well past the transsonic range of 5.56 and would be hitting like 10+ MOA at best. Couple that with the fact that the front sight post would be significantly larger than the target at that range so good luck seeing the target. Plus, you'd be holding several feet above the target and probably several feet either side for wind.
Wow, I'm barely into the the vid and you've already made some very interesting points.
"Every rifle should also be a fighting rifle, unless you're in a very large group". Good point.
I have ARs that I hunt with that don't qualify as fighting rifles, but they also aren't in 5.56, and they aren't something that I'd carry on a walkabout if zombies were an issue. When I travel I usually have a second upper that IS a fighting rifle in 5.56, just in case getting home becomes an unexpected challenge.
"Effective out to 800 yards". 18 Inches is good, 20 would be "gooder", but that gets really long if you are sporting a can as well. If one were actually on some type of long range patrol or walk back to their home, would dismounting a can be worth while in order to make a 20 in barrel less unwieldy? My POI doesn't change w or w/o the can at 100 -200 yards, I haven't checked at longer ranges. (Note to self, check....)
Too bad 6 ARC isn't more common. It seems like a good caliber for this senerio. I reduced the number of different calibers I own a few years back; and I don't shoot 6mm now, but that's a caliber that tempts me to add a caliber back to the collection. If SHTF tomorrow, ammo resupply in 6mm would be a problem.
I have a video coming out soon where I talk about that in opening detail.
But yeah, I'd love some of these specialty cals to be more common. But for me, availability is on the same level as performance. So 556,308,9mm and for some cases 6.5cm for me
@@BrassFacts 👍 22 LR, 9mm, 5.56, .308, & 12 GA are basics for me. If one had 30-30, 30.06, and .38/.357, I wouldn't get rid of them if I didn't have to. Probably would keep .243 and .270 as well if I didn't have to sell them to fund a decent carbine in 5.56, ample mags, ammo, a can, and most importantly, some training classes. I'd try to become familiar with running the AK platform as well if possible.
I am currently considering an 18" 6mm ARC upper/optic for the LR role. I'd be giving up some of the benefits of 5.56, but I think it might be worth it if I can get ammo. Open to thoughts and feedback.
Do you have an 18 or 20” build in 5.56 yet?
I would be sure to have 10k+ of the core ammo types (9mm and 556).
Not just for what you need, but to be able to insulate yourself from the next ammo scare.
Only then does it make sense to explore other cals imo.
It's why I've been so slow to move into 300blk/308
@@zb6618No 18" in 556. Two 16" and an 11.5. Couldn't hurt to pick up an 18" 556 barrel.
Mine is. a 20” 6.5 Grendel. Been shooting it since 2008 I had a 4-16 vortex on it and took it off and put a 1-10 Razer gen III. 10x is good for me out past 800 yds. And up close the reticle is great. I just did a long range shooting comp with it and scored 3rd place out of 45 people on the moving target section of the course. Not bad for my first time with this scope and first “real” shooting competition. The reticle is perfect for this application. Moving Targets were at 440 650 790 and 860 yds. I have a GGG bipod, it’s great, I like it better than my atlas that’s on my 338. Feels just as strong but a bit lighter.
6mm arc seems like a fun cartridge I just like a bit heavier bullet down range.
Lmao the way the pupper looked 😂
I put a Swampfox Arrowhead 1x10 lpvo on my 20" build. Setting it up for coyote hunting. 5" can on it as well. I want to try the Primary Arms 4-14x44 eventually, but I really like the Swampfox so far. It is a little slow getting my eye right when it's zoomed in, I'll admit.
I have both. 4-14 is heavy. But good.
I dont know if buy PA 2.5-10 or 3-18
Night force makes a 2.5-20 scope now. Not cheap but love mine!
Very smart to allocate money that may have gone into a carpet cleaner into the build 👊🏻
I personally enjoy my 20in build. I've got the same optic however I opted for a g2s trigger (better price) and a VG6 Delta (enhanced A2 and gives better compensation than a three prong). I've gotten 1in groups with 75gr BTHP Hornady Match and .75in with 55gr Hornady Varmint Express. What I found very surprising is that I get 1in groups with Norma 55gr 223 FMJ BT (I've done serval groups with it an it is very consistent with MOA groupings).
Great content. Gorgeous terrain. Thank you.
No idea if you’ll see this or not, but the VCAS doesn’t adjust anywhere near as much as the VTAC. If you want to be able to snug the rifle to yourself stick with the VTAC

If you don’t recommend a bull barrel profile. What about H-Bar or Hanson profile barrels? I was gonna go Hanson for my GPR with a 1:8 twist but I was on the opinion of going H-Bar with my spr initially. Not sure on twist rate through or materials
You've gotta be a western guy. This looks strikingly like Wyoming/northern CO. Great stuff. And logic based. Never stop learning! P.S. beautiful SPR.
Great video's man. I do like your setup. I'm trying to do something similar myself and was trying to figure out what rds mount you were using for your piggyback setup. I'm having a hard time finding one that is tall enough to raise it past my windage turret on my scope?
>Literally shorter than a normal M16 that Marines in Fallujah conducted CQB with
>iTs a sNiPeR!
the official TDP for the SPR mk12 is also shorter than the m16... In fact, some of the other dedicated snipers fielded are at or some smaller OAL than the m16.
Also the Tavor SAR with a 18inch barrel acog and holosun with a full size can makes a pretty decent combat grade accuracy DMR for 5.56 as well with it being a bul pup it with a can is still shorter than a 16 inch AR …. You have to Geissele everything on the Tavors and the the trigger pack and lighting now the trigger is well just Night and day better than oem and Believe it or not better than a mil spec A.R. 15 trigger actually quite a bit so !
Quality foot shot with the rifle
Late to this one too and a totally different topic but do you have a thought on 10.5 or other shorter barreled AR's? Sorry if I missed it!
Great vid as always 🙏
My 16" GPR set up gets 1.5-2 moa with pretty much everything I've fired through it using a cheap PA 1-4. The only issue is that it likes to leave steel cases in the chamber.
I don't shoot it half as much as my pistol which again, isn't even close to half as much as I'd like.
Single stage makes really easy to accidentally feather off an extra shot. Lol
Last AR I built out, I used a JP barrel. That thing is a tack driver though I’m wondering how much the POI will shift with a can on it.
the 5.56 is an inferior cartridge for distance. I built mine out in the 6.5 Grendel, which gives me viable reach(energy) out to 1,000 meters or more. On it I mounted the primary arms 3-18
I don't know if buy PA 2.5-10 or 3-18
While some may argue various components being used or omitted, at least you didn't mount a Streamlight TLR-1! :)))
Brass Facts Guy, what RMR mount are you using? Is that the Trijicon mount? I piggybacked a 508T on a PA GLX 4-16 and I had to use a Reptilla riser to get it higher than than turret. Now I’m looking at going with the PA 2.5-12 on a different gun but I don’t want to mess around with a riser this time. Thanks.
PS - Your content is awesome, you and Hop are my two fave GunTubers. Keep it up Brother.
thanks man!
it's a larue.
I ran a M110k1 for a while and, yes it kinda sucked but…was it lighter than running two separate platforms?
Absolutely.
Once I got used to it, my shoulders got used to it etc it wasn’t too bad on the weight…running in and out of buildings, scaling walls and windows etc…still sucked a little bit though.
Since I was forced to retire and now have a new mission set, that of a single parent of twin 8yo boys, and also being more active as a brother in law and uncle to a group of 5 females?
We are currently building our third 18” rifle length “lightweight” SPR-type carbine, all identical.
Even the boys and my youngest niece are able to use them to get hits on targets out to 400 meters right now.
The three teenagers and my “sister” is more than capable to navigate through buildings with it etc, practicing using the top turret for closer faster stuff etc.
Between the rifle length gas system, the A5 system and a good break…no recoil to speak of, just wear double ear pros.
Definitely recommended, would do it again and probably will once number 3 is done.
Question for my build: 18" or 20"? Purely mechanical considerations (no cost, availability).
20" is longer and less handy, but an 18" isn't that much shorter. Is the extra 2" of velocity and reduced muzzle blast/flash worth the extra 1 or 2 ounces and length? They both have the same detriment as far as the gas block/rail combo i plan to use, and then comes the 16" question. Every argument for the 18" can be made for the 16" as well. Unless I get a compelling reason, I'll do a 20". I plan to make this an upper, a special purpose upper if you will, to pair with my 12.5". I've already got the shorty covered so i don't really feel the need for a 16" "do all" type of set-up. To be frank, my 12.5" is a do-all set-up as far as i'm concerned.
Gas block: this is at the bottom, ignore it unless you care. When I say both the 18" and the 20" have the same detriment, I mean I've already decided on a RiflerSpeed Gas Control gas block, and a BCM QRF 12 rail. An 18 or 20" rifle length means the gas block will be exposed. A 16" middy would solve my exposed gas block concern, but I don't think the exposed block is really a big deal in the end. I mean, the M16 SDM-R used a set screw A2 gas block and the Mk12 Mod 0 used an exposed set screwed gas block, i think my exposed pinned block will be fine.
I like the 20" your gas block will be fine.
My “SPR” build originally started as a fixed stock, 18”, 2.5-10 Trijicon AccuPower but I ended up changing it to a collapsible stock, 16”, 1-6 Vortex Viper. I didn’t like the weight and “wield ability”. The latter package is more maneuverable and I can still hit 400-600 yards.
I will be rebuilding an 18” SPR soon but chambered in 6.5 Grendel.
I'm not entire convinced that a GPR with a good lpvo doesn't do 90% of what a SPR does.
I'm more effective with a SPR at range, absolutely. Do I need to be more effective by that margin? maybe, maybe not.
@@BrassFacts Exactly! I really wrestled with what exactly I wanted and in the end being my one and only AR I wanted something less specialized and more well rounded. Love the channel btw, great no BS content, down to business immediately, one of my favorite channels.
I've got 10.5" ARs, 16" ARs, 18" ARs, 20" ARs, ARs in 5.56, in .308, and even in 7.62x39. I'd like your opinion, and some feedback, on the following sir, the TL;DR below the explanation of why I'm choosing the round I'm choosing.
If I bad it to do over, though, I'd have invested ALL of that money into a 6mm (.243 Win AR10, or 6mm ARC in AR15)
The .243 Win with any sort of real barrel length will have less than 5" of vertical spread between 0 and 300 yards with a 100 yard zero using 70-80 grain soft points, which are GREAT at killing ...deer sized... animals.
6mm ARC has similar but slightly lower velocities with the same .243/6mm pills. I've personally rang steel out to 800 yds with an 18" .243 Win, and on the right day, I believe I could have stretched those ELD rounds out to 1,000+
The only down side to 6mm rounds is that they eat barrels, so you'll want a GOOD chrome lined barrel.
The most of the rest of my money will probably go into the BCG. Barrel + BCG is where most of your accuracy and dependability comes from, imho.
TL;DR
The scope I REALLY want to run is a US Optics TS 2.5-20x with a canted red dot. For now, I'm planning to run my budget 10x SWFA SS, with canted dot. How do you feel about running a canted dot as a primary optic, and the 10x SWFA SS for longer range engagements, or would you recommend going ahead and getting the 2.5-20x. The one I'm looking at has the JVCR reticle, which works GREAT for 150-500 yd shots.
Would a 20” barrel be a deal breaker for you over the 18”? Not a ton of weight difference, but definitely longer.
nah it's fine. A tad long. But it's really splitting hairs.
10k! Hell ya dude
🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉
thanks for being there for the first 10k
Love this background music you use. Reminds me of red dead redemption haha
Literally used red dead in a previous video. The scope video if I recal
@@BrassFacts haha yep! You’ve been crankin out some really good videos man.
Iv actually had a lot of good luck with ballistic advantage sub moa with green tip 18 inch ops 12 modern series I can consistently stack rounds with green tips if I'm bench shooting
is this range a public range or some private land? looks beautiful
public land
Have you tried the Schmid Tool triggers? If so, how do they compare to the Geissele?
If you like the K grip check out Reptilia
I thought the K grip was the end all be all. Nope. It is a little on the smooth side, you could do a stippling job I just wrapped it in hockey tape.
Having acknowledged the existence - and influence - of Nutnfancy, how do you weigh this against his recommendation of 7.62x51 as a primary WROL rifle when considering ranges beyond 300m?
I like his influence, and ideas at the time.
If he has made that recommendation, then I simply just don't agree
That being said, I'm pretty sure he's still in the 556 camp.
I would really appreciate a more through look into bipods thank you!
I'm waiting for the new magpul to release, and then I'll compare.
I already have my hands on atlas.
Yessss those hogs to start the vid!
would you guys say a mono rail or reinforced rail like the aero enhanced m4e1 for accuracy? what about making sure the fit between upper and lower are super tight? im looking at m4e1 enhanced but i dont like that im restricted to aero rails, i would love a PRI or a quad
amazing backdrops!
