A lot of plot holes in films are due to deleted scenes. Independence Day deleted a scene show Jeff Goldblum’s character built his alien malware using samples of alien software.
You know what would've been great is if Robert Englund played both himself and Freddy, so there'd be a scene where he jumps out at Englund, cackling and goes, "You know, I think I've Seen Your Face Before!"
@@DJMangoh Originally on the freeway scene Freddy was supposed to appear in a car with razors sticking out the front an try to run down the kid but it was cut for time an budget
@River Acheron What I liked about it was the ambiguity. Granted we all know what "Freddy" is in New Nightmare, but they never specifically said how he came to the physical world. For all we know, "Freddy" could have possessed Robert. True it's shown that Robert and his wife went out of town, but considering how the climax started to mesh the real world with the movie world, very similar to how Wes originally intended the first Nightmare to be; it makes sense that that scene couldn't be taken at face value. For all we know, New Nightmare isn't Heather's scary reality, but Nancy's bad dream.
One of my most favorite moments of the whole franchise is when the movie world spills into the real world and Heather turns around and she's back on Elm Street in Nancy's pajamas. Gives me chills everytime!
Brad, you should review the 1989 version of Phantom of the Opera starring Robert Englund. I mean the friggin poster read "Robert Englund was Freddy. Now he's the... Phantom of the Opera. An all-new nightmare."
Yeah, and they even have him making an orgasm face when he kills someone which I always thought was reminiscent of the needle scene from nightmare 3 xD
This is sort of the H20 of the Nightmare franchise...it brings the original protagonist back for an anniversary film full of references to the original. But while the references in H20 are just there to pay homage, the references in New Nightmare serve a purpose in the story, by showing how reality and fiction are being intertwined and Heather is actually becoming her on-screen hero. This is the one Elm Street film that I would call genius.

This is my favorite Nightmare movie. I have the licensed mask from this movie and leather pants solely because I love it so much. When did you host a panel with Robert Englund?
I have been waiting for 2 years between the second and the third review. And now he's just throwing them off every now and then. That's why you should never give up kids , dreams do come true.
Well, Snob's got to review all the Robert Englund Freddy films before doing the review for Freddy vs Jason next month. Otherwise, he'll be totally confused about why they're fighting.
That really is how it goes. A solid movie that brings back more terror and is legit unsettling. So of course it effectively bombs at the box office. Thus making the point that if you don't have silly Freddy then people won't show up.
One thing I enjoy about this movie is the ending. It's got this snake biting its own tail kinda vibe to it. Wes tells Heather earlier that storytellers can capture the Freddy entity but not destroy it, and if they stop making stories about it then it will get free. So, what do you do? You create an endless loop in this story that when the story ends, it begins again. Heather reads Dylan the script, which starts the movie all over again and it will end right there again where it will start over again in perpetuity.
No joke, this might be my favorite entry in the franchise with how meta it got. The performances were great too, with just the right amount of camp retained, and Freddy was actually scary again for the first time in like, two films. Glad Wes got to revisit some of his original themes that had been lost over time too.
Langenkamp has very nice legs. I saw Heather in "The Dream Warriors", the first movie of the series I took in and at the tender age of 11, I fell in love with both!
Definitely the best of the sequels, probably second next to "A Nightmare on Elm Street 3:Dream Warriors". In fact the only entries I own are the original, the third, and this one. Man it won't be long until you get to "Freddy vs. Jason", or the 2010 remake with Jackie Earl Haley. I bet the 2010 version would be prime "Snob" material. Also funny how you mentioned Wes Craven as both John Carpenter and Sean S. Cunningham, but I surprised you didn't say something about that note at end being signed by George A. Romero. Great as always.
Pretty much the same with me. Wes Craven wanted this to be the first sequel. As far as I am concerned, only THREE Nightmare On Elm Street films exist, the original from 1984, Dream Warriors from 1987, and this. The rest are not worth it to me.
18:00 Crushing a brittle toy in army boots? C'mon... Anyone can do that. If he could step barefoot on a Lego and show no pain, now *that* would be intimidating.

I'm more hype for Snob doing all these Friday the 13th and Nightmare on Elm Street reviews over the years to lead up to Freddy vs. Jason more than Infinity War.
It's pretty silly that people involved in making horror movies are even a little surprised at the idea of bringing Freddy back from the dead. "But you killed him off! You can't just... un-kill off the killer in a long-running slasher franchise!" Oh well. This is still my favorite in the whole series.
And one of my favorite movies has been Snobbed. That's how we're saying that, right? Anyway. Now time for movie rant. Does anyone else think that Reel Freddy straight up possessed Robert Englund? That was what I always thought. In which case I'm pretty sure they might have accidentally murdered him. Which is, of course, why they needed someone else to play Freddy in the remake.
I really wish that the series would had continued with this new version of Freddy as a darker gritter play in him and not that joke we got a few years back
If you like a darker Freddy better than the remake, check this fan made trailer. The guy that made it, along with two others, spent thousands of his own money to shoot these trailers in hopes of getting a studio's interest in investing in making the movie which he would direct. m.ua-cam.com/video/sIbv19R2rfY/v-deo.html
30 years old!!! The thing that sets this apart is that it’s one of the rare horror films that’s fully self-aware And this would set the stage for Craven’s next successful ‘Scream’ series fully taking advantage of the meta self aware humorous approach deconstructing the genre After 6 films that started back in 1984 the ‘Nightmare on Elm Street’ movies started to change Craven at one point became very upset that they took his original creation and turned it into a joke But with this film and New Line Cinema he finally gets to bring Freddy Krueger back to his roots making him truly terrifying again It’s also a reunion with original scream queen herself Heather Langenkamp playing herself as well as producers Sarah Risher, Bob Shaye, the late John Saxon, and co-star Robert Englund ‘New Nightmare’ manages to stand out amongst the other sequels being it doesn’t connect to any of them and they fully acknowledge that Heather has stayed out of it despite its popularity and box office success The movie is appropriately scary taking its time to reveal this new version of Freddy, Englund does wonders playing dual roles as himself, the makeup effects are astounding, and the writers come up with a massive mythology regarding this slasher villain Tracy Middendorf as the babysitter Julie is so darn likeable that its a shame what happens to her later The score is also effectively scary and there’s a theme of Hansel & Gretel sprinkled throughout creating a sense of dread as well as atmosphere next to more psychological thrills The ending is also the icing on the cake wrapping up this long battle of good vs evil It’s a shame despite the positive reception this ended up crashing at the box office being forgotten But this paved the way for Craven to make a career comeback in horror with ‘Scream’ following two years later and this movie has definitely gotten more attention with time thanks to its meta layered concepts and many callbacks to the franchise, it was more than just the money it was about finding a creative way to justify its place in the series A clever way to blur the line between fantasy and reality in the Hollywood landscape playing with fan reactions plus moral outrage Heather Langenkamp and Robert Englund give it their all falling back into their respective roles and making the rivalry come alive like they did back in 1984 Thankfully it also ended the franchise on a much better note after ‘Freddy’s Dead’ was met with dismal reception while also setting the first template for legacy follow ups Craven succeeds making his famous creation scary once more
Honestly, I feel like what might have been better than this was Freddy *not* having come to life, and it's more of a psychological deal for the female lead and other characters. having visions, but things end up just not happening (her husband gets home fine instead of being in an accident, for example) or just coincidences. Leave enough doubt that it could go either way, but Freddy's never actually real. Could be interesting.
On a slightly unrelated note, I wouldn’t mind a Halloween movie with this premise. Maybe even tie it into Halloween III, as Silver Shamrock makes a Micheal Myers mask and said Micheal Myers possesses the wearer to kill people and all that can stop him is the actors in the movie, like get in Jamie Lee Curtis to play herself, maybe even Malcom McDowall since we no longer have the great Donald Pleasance. It could be done.
Stick around in the 90s, Snob. I wanna see you review "In the Mouth of Madness" by John Carpenter just to get that movie in the public consciousness some more. That way I can have more people to lord over when I tell them how it's similar to New Nightmare while being entirely different in its pacing, direction, and atmosphere.
Watching this with a friend, made a joke in the first and second movie review that Freddy has a weird tongue fetish... but not only the Tongue Fetish has shown up consistently throughout the whole series so far, it shows up TWICE in this movie! To the point when it got stabbed, our reaction was pretty much an amused "Well, it was bound to happen eventually."
Correct me if I'm wrong, but the nurses going against parental consent is a lawsuit and malpractice charge.

I'm more hype for Snob doing all these Friday the 13th and Nightmare on Elm Street reviews over the years to lead up to Freddy vs. Jason more than Infinity War.
Thank you, I love this movie, I've always loved the special effects on the whole series. They are so good.
It's pretty silly that people involved in making horror movies are even a little surprised at the idea of bringing Freddy back from the dead. "But you killed him off! You can't just... un-kill off the killer in a long-running slasher franchise!" Oh well. This is still my favorite in the whole series.
My favorite of the Nightmare on Elm Street movies! Can't wait to see this review!
Oh thank goodness, I thought there wasn’t going to be a review today. You the man Brad. ^^
Been waiting a long time for you to review this. So happy :)
CAN'T WAIT FOR THE NEW SNOB DVD!!!!
The first Nightmare movie I saw. Many of the references were lost on me, but it was still a good entry point.
GREAT WORK AS ALWAYS BROTHA 👍👍👍👍👍👍👍
Come to the Winnipeg, Manitoba comic con in October!
I dunno what it is but Brad was on fire in this review. One of the funniest I’ve seen in a while. 💯
I'm a simple man, I see CinemaSnob and I watch.
AUSSIE TRANSFORMERS And that's what the remake was trying to pull off.... but sadly failed.
Symbiote God because they used freddy's younger brother Teddy..
Bradula this is absofruitly one of my favorite movies!
We need more films like this
30 years old!!!
The thing that sets this apart is that it’s one of the rare horror films that’s fully self-aware
And this would set the stage for Craven’s next successful ‘Scream’ series fully taking advantage of the meta self aware humorous approach deconstructing the genre
After 6 films that started back in 1984 the ‘Nightmare on Elm Street’ movies started to change
Craven at one point became very upset that they took his original creation and turned it into a joke
But with this film and New Line Cinema he finally gets to bring Freddy Krueger back to his roots making him truly terrifying again
It’s also a reunion with original scream queen herself Heather Langenkamp playing herself as well as producers Sarah Risher, Bob Shaye, the late John Saxon, and co-star Robert Englund
‘New Nightmare’ manages to stand out amongst the other sequels being it doesn’t connect to any of them and they fully acknowledge that Heather has stayed out of it despite its popularity and box office success
The movie is appropriately scary taking its time to reveal this new version of Freddy, Englund does wonders playing dual roles as himself, the makeup effects are astounding, and the writers come up with a massive mythology regarding this slasher villain
Tracy Middendorf as the babysitter Julie is so darn likeable that its a shame what happens to her later
The score is also effectively scary and there’s a theme of Hansel & Gretel sprinkled throughout creating a sense of dread as well as atmosphere next to more psychological thrills
The ending is also the icing on the cake wrapping up this long battle of good vs evil
It’s a shame despite the positive reception this ended up crashing at the box office being forgotten
But this paved the way for Craven to make a career comeback in horror with ‘Scream’ following two years later and this movie has definitely gotten more attention with time thanks to its meta layered concepts and many callbacks to the franchise, it was more than just the money it was about finding a creative way to justify its place in the series
A clever way to blur the line between fantasy and reality in the Hollywood landscape playing with fan reactions plus moral outrage
Heather Langenkamp and Robert Englund give it their all falling back into their respective roles and making the rivalry come alive like they did back in 1984
Thankfully it also ended the franchise on a much better note after ‘Freddy’s Dead’ was met with dismal reception while also setting the first template for legacy follow ups
Craven succeeds making his famous creation scary once more
So are you doing the remake or the porn Parody next
I bet the porno's going to be first
Freddy vs Jason will be next.
Or Bollywood Nightmare.
BulletTooth504 i think Freddy vs. Jason will be next friday the 13.
Freddy vs Jason, remake, and then A Wet Dream On Elm Street. i hope lol
Heather looks gorgeous in this film!
Aw, no inexplicable football in my living room?
This was my absolute favourite sequel in the whole franchise. It was smart entertaining and suprisingly rehreshing!
Snob, cool shirt, where can I buy one?
I'd like to know too!
Look up Pizza Party Printing, they make the shirt.
Lost Crusader thanks
Still kicking myself that you were at New York Comic Con last year and I completely blanked on it.
This movie is _sooooo unrealistic!_ They pretended that Freddy Vs. Jason wasn’t in development at the time!
Brandon Spain Wait WHAT!?
@@troin3925 there were over a dozen potential scripts for Freddy vs. Jason and some of them are really fucking weird
@@JaredGivens1 when one of your main characters uses dream logic as a weapon expect things to get weird. :)
In L.A. traffic, going two blocks can take up to three hours.
Dr. Giggles! 'nuff said.
Great review. I love ur take on the whole Nightmare on Elm Street series. Keep up the great work. Hoping to see Freddy vs Jason from u.
Dinner AND a new snob review what could be better?
Watching this with a friend, made a joke in the first and second movie review that Freddy has a weird tongue fetish... but not only the Tongue Fetish has shown up consistently throughout the whole series so far, it shows up TWICE in this movie!
To the point when it got stabbed, our reaction was pretty much an amused "Well, it was bound to happen eventually."
Correct me if I'm wrong, but the nurses going against parental consent is a lawsuit and malpractice charge.
"Unfortunately, the movie made less than the others at the box office." Because on the weekend it came out, people were flocking to some film called "Pulp Fiction". I bet it's about pulp in orange juices not being real.
Hell yeah, baby! My two favorite things are back: The Cinema Snob and his reviews! By the way, be careful, juggling clowns are still dangerous.
But when will we get the epic prequel, _Freddy Got Fingered_ ?
5:37 Nice stealth pedophilia reference!
8:23 That's the first correct use of irony I've seen in I don't know how long. Kudos!
11:00 That's what Robert Englund looks like without the makeup!? Forgive my ignorance (I haven't seen him in anything else,) but he looks like the lovechild of Elton John and Phil Collins.
12:15 I'm dying.
12:41 Oh no! Dylan and the phone have both eaten The Stuff!
13:04 Wait, what?
15:57 Aaaaand there's at least two people who lost their medical license and jobs.
16:18 Thaaaank you.
In all seriousness, I have been looking forward to this for quite a long time. Thanks Brad.
Best breakdown comment ever!
How about a review on Poultrygist?
Love your Sharp Hand Joe shirt. :3
I wonder how that kid is doing these days having grown up central to so many horror movies.
