I said this earlier on your reaction to the just NHL hits video but hip checks aren't really performed that often anymore. But the last guy to really use it effectively and often is Keith Ballard, #4 from Vancouver. He's in this vid quite often. It's kind of an all-or-nothing play because as a D you are not really in a position to play the puck, just the man.

Maybe-fun fact: when I was playing hockey growing up, one of my favorite “fun” drills to do was called “Butt Bumpers” where you’d get the whole team on one side of the ice, or a group inside one of the red circles - no sticks allowed. You then had to skate backwards, only backwards, and try to bump off anybody you could until you were the last one still on their feet. Good times! 🏒
