This is the best tips video on Days Gone that I have ever seen! I have been playing for about a month now and am loving it. I would have NEVER thought to hunt hordes at night. I have always gone in the day to catch them in their cave so that they are bunched up and basically do the same thing you did, just without cover. Your idea, however, is much better and I will implement it on Iron Butte which is next on the list. I also didn't know about the rock and smoke bomb stuns and I didn't realize you could throw the gas cans to burn the nests. the way you took out the horde... My first approach was exeactly as you described it! I met a horde in the wild, realize I had full molotovs/pipebombs/nades and thouht to myself 'why shouldn't I take them out form the bushes? They can't see me, right?' and so I did. Have you tried to kill a Reacher with you bootknife? I just found out that there is some good stuff where the sawmill is, you can find them where there’s very little lake first you stand outside the NERO Checkpoint in the old sawmill when you and looking in NERO Checkpoint, then run or drive to the rocky hills, there you can see a very little lake and beside some threes there is a bed and there you can find some good stuff. This lake you can see it in your big map, but you have to zoom in on the rocky side, it’s a very hard to see where the stuff is, when you are at the lake, find the bed where the lake is and you will find the stuff.
I just started playing it for the first time and went with the Survival difficulty. It really makes every moment so tense. I love it so far. I really am big on no HUD playthroughs and I love that they have it as an option. I also like that you can toggle the HUD for just a brief moment, because after all it is a game and sometimes you just want to know if you're going the right way without having to pause and look at the map. Love that HUD toggle. Brilliant implementation imo.

It gets easier. I beat my first horde by accident 😅 kinda ran into it and just ran with it I liked the game alot before but now I'm hooked. Definitely a good build up from start to even now at like 35% progress
@@AdventureYeti31 I managed to kill my first horde this weekend, but in the most cowardly manner thinkable. It was the one living in train cars next to a NERO station. I climbed a tower by the nearby lake where they gather, and then I just showered them with bombs and molotovs from my place of safety. That did the trick 😄 But soon I will have to gather courage to do it "for real", down on the ground, running like a scared rabbit... Great game though. I'm starting to get really hooked now. The vistas can be quite breathtaking, and the atmosphere is fantastic.
@@matsnilson7727 that was the first one that killed me. Stumbled upon it right at dusk and had the same idea but got yanked off the bike first lol. I steered clear of that spot for awhile after that. The first one I killed was another in Cascade region. Closer to where the game starts I believe. Kinda ran up on it and had the high ground so I just started lobbing molotovs and shooting. When I ran into yours I still only had the .22 rifle and it doesn't do hordes well lol
@@AdventureYeti31 Haha. Yeah, getting too close by accident can be pretty terrifying. I almost drove my bike right into a horde when I entered through the cemetary gates. That left a stain or two in my underwear 😆 Love the stealthier moments though. Like last night when I retrieved the old surgical knife in a small town. Sure, some people probably go in with all guns blasting in every scenario, but I spent an hour hiding in bushes and behind low walls, stealth killing everything that moved. Great fun. Maybe I can locate an easy horde to attack tonight. If I feel brave enough. 😊
The amount of time I have wasted throwing a rock in an opposite direction to distract them to get a stealth kill. I can just throw the rock at them then run up and stealth kill them. What a time saver.
Thanks for the tips, here I was trying to take the hordes out during the daytime. I did it, got them running towards the attracter bomb, then blew up a truck by accident i didnt know i could blow up the truck lol. Then i hsd to keep running around to kill 20 or so because they spotted me, but i was out of ammo. Most crazy game but fun one Ivd played. I think i have ran into them at night to. Going to try this much easier than my panic mode one lol
That was the first horde I killed too! The one at the wrecked train and Nero checkpoint. I eventually just got tired of running from them and turned around to fight them... died about 7 times and eventually figured out that using the truck properly was a big help 😆 If you want to get even better at killing the hordes, have a look at my Horde Killer Master Class video that I released recently. I'm on my 5th playthrough. I started a new game, not plus, at Hard II. After playing the game through on NG+ 3 times I realized how hard the game can really be. But's it's still incredibly fun. Having to deal with freakers when you have shitty weapons, dying because a bear takes you down when you didn't expect it, having to hunt and harvest to raise my camp rating to get better guns. This game is so damn fun. I think this will be my last playthrough though. It's such a great game and I wish there would be a sequel. I don't think that will ever happen but it would be amazing. Keep up the game play guys, it's always amazing. Thanks.
I always hear Matthew Macconaughey when you speak. Anyway, well done on those tips. Didn't know about the sniper. One thing I noticed is when you're free roaming and want to avoid the rope trap there's usually an 'x' on your minimap close by signifying a dead body. I've seen it more than once. However I'm not sure it's there everytime. Take care out there ;)
I grew up in the same part of Texas as Matthew McConaughey, my hometown is less than an hour from where he grew up lol. You're right about that X on the map, there's usually a corpse near the marauders. Good find!
Glad you like the video, I had fun making that one! Lot's more to come, I'm doing a Days Gone "Expert Gameplay" series on Wednesdays at 8pm MT. Tune in for more Tips and Tricks.

This game has been out for awhile but I just bought it used for only $17 at GameStop. Dang, so under-rated. I'm loving it. I wear headphones when playing. Nice, I'm so glad you found my video helpful! Here's a tip that blew my mind: combine the Melee skill called "Bull Rush" with the boot knife. If you use the weapon wheel to manually select the Boot Knife and then charge an enemy with Bull Rush, Deacon will shoulder ram them to the ground and then stomp on their head! This gives you a quick kill, with zero resources used, even on enemies that are aware of you! Enjoy!
One of the reason this is such a good game is the gameplay loop. The stealth is top tier and logical. The gun play is versatile. It has a cover system with a shoulder switch mechanic. It had the survival looting in a post apocalyptic environment. The actual crafting is basic but rewarding. You have two play through minimum. One guns blazing and one stealth. Yet zero chance of a sequel. Devil may cry got 5 games. Resident evil got 9? Why not this game?
So true, it really is unfortunate. Every single time Days Gone goes on sale or when it got released on PC, every single time Days Gone gets a little push in sales we get new fans who just want to talk about how much fun they had playing it or even how the game has influenced their own lives. Oh well, I'm still having fun playing the first one! Thanks for watching!
Just started playing this game, so was glad to find your video, One question for you, when you are lining up the head shots, how are you slowing down the time?
Great tips, but bro, melee is pronounced (māˈlā). Not mealy, (mēlē,) like an apple. I only bring it up because you are other wise very clear and well spoken, and very professional. Any ways thanks!
I'm not even mad for the correction lol. People pronounce things differently in different parts of the world and that's just how we say it where I'm from... but my fiancee is British and won't stand for it so I've since been educated LOL

@@SpawnicusRex Oh wow this is amazing. I'm currently at 868 Days Gone and just starting to feel comfortable fighting hordes. Your videos are VERY helpful. Got a new subscriber now :-) Thank You!
Easily my favourite game of the last couple of years. Unfortunately it started lagging last year on my PC due to a sound bug which I wasn't able to fix despite all attempts.
@@SpawnicusRex I literally bought an RTX 3080 last month just so the game would run smoothly. (I thought the bug was related to the 10 series cards.) I managed to launch the game without sound a couple of times and it worked perfectly. I played the game on PS4 slim just so I could play smoothly but of course that beautiful world in 4K can't be beaten. Regardless I finished the game both on PS4 and PC. Planning to play again despite the lag. Days Gone is an amazing game, you can tell I love the game lol.
Hi! I know this is late but hopefully this will help somebody still: I use the two sticks and pull the left trigger (L2) to aim. Aim with L2 and use the sticks to look around and move.
Hi Spawnicus, I've really been enjoying your channel and the enthusiam for Days Gone. You bring an approach to openworld games like this one that no one else does. Strategy, planning, patience and pulling out everything the game has to offer while delivering an entertaining and engaging tour de france to help others enjoy the world of Days Gone. I have been on the fence for a while deciding whether to jump in and give Days Gone a spin. Your insights and love of the game have gone a long way to tipping the scales. I have just one question. In your long experience of the game just how robust and stable is it now on PC in 2021? Bugs seemed to be a big part of the criticism that lead to a poor reception during release and for some time after. Would love to hear your comments and feelings on this. I live in the Yorkshire Dales in the UK so it is not easy to join your live streams but love catching up all the same. : )
Hi Geoff, thank you SO MUCH! The only really frustrating bug that I've had with the PC version is Remote Bombs, Proximity Mines and Proximity Bombs sometimes do not behave properly. Remote Bombs will sometimes detonate simply because enemies get too close even though they should not ever go off unless you detonate them manually. Sometimes Proximity Mines and Proximity Bombs will detonate too soon, too late or not at all. This makes it difficult to achieve some of the more complex Horde killing strategies that I like to use but overall does not impact my enjoyment of the game itself. This is the only persistent glitch that I've seen on PC so far. All other glitches and bugs have been minor and are usually resolved by loading a previous save game, restarting the game or restarting the PC. If you're on the fence, I say GO FOR IT! It's an absolute blast to play, especially if you like open world games that let you be patient and tactical. Cheers!
@@SpawnicusRex Thanks. Heading off to Steam and rolling up my sleeves for the long haul. Just out of pure curiosity. What got you into streaming and open world gaming? Can’t quite place your accent. What part of the USA are you from? I’m always impressed by your fluid dialogue, you make it sound so easy. That’s a gift. Is there another Days Gone episode today? I know you like your Saturdays.
I'm from Texas in the southern USA. I've enjoyed open world gaming since The Elder Scrolls 3: Morrowind but Days Gone got me into making videos and live streaming. I wanted to do an Early Game Best Start Guide and decided a series of live streams would be the best medium for that. I've finished my Days Gone live stream series and moved on to other games now. My Saturday night streams are currently The Last of Us 2.
This is great stuff. Corny story, but I enjoyed this game. I gotta ask though--I thought the first time you said "from *and* under" when talking about the sniper's platform was a slip of the tongue. Then you said it at least two more times. Why not just say "from under" or "from beneath" them?
I'm just a good ol boy from a small town in Texas. I read a lot so I know a few big words but that's the best I can do 😆 I only learned how to pronounce "melee" correctly a few years ago: ua-cam.com/video/XQGtml834tk/v-deo.html Thanks for watching!!!
Great video. I've played through this game several times and there were things you mentioned that I didn't know about like the sniper standing on a platform that can be taken out. I never took notice to that and just blasted him cause I thought he was standing in the tree itself. Also, I noticed your Chicago Chopper said its clip size was 80. Did you get that upgrade at the Diamond Lake camp?
Glad you found some useful tips! The extended mag for the Chopper is bought at the Wizard Island merchant. I did most of this video on a New Game Plus playthrough so I already had everything unlocked.
@@SpawnicusRex I'll be sure to get it this time when I go there. I didn't know there was an upgrade beyond the one I have now so I never checked. Thanks for the info!
Unfortunately no, not that I know of. This video is the most current version of the Hidden Loot Locations guide and show every location that I currently know. The list was made with the help of many fans so as far as I know, this is all of them.
Thank you for this, I'm on my second or third playthrough (can't remember which) . I've already had a horde spawn on a mission to find Lisa. Do you have any tips for that? I can't craft anything stronger than a Molotov and I'm getting easily killed.
My advice would be to follow this linked video to unlock one of the best sidearms in the game: the SMP9. It's a high quality sub machine gun that works VERY WELL against those early game hordes. Good luck! ua-cam.com/video/eqyJ1PR47H8/v-deo.html
How many hours pass when you sleep on a bed? I'm trying to force spawn a horde during the dark. I also need the same info so I can accurately count the two days I need to sleep so I can exfil to another location for the next two days so the free items from the secret loot locations will respawn. Thank you.
Hi Jeff, no worries I can answer your question for you. When you sleep it only changes from day to night or, from night to day. Deacon doesn't rest a set number of hours, it only passes enough time to change from night to day, or day to night. Also, it takes a full 48 hours for items to respawn so you'll need to pass 4 whole days before loot will respawn. Hope that helps!
I can't believe they're not making a sequel to this game. What other Sony exclusive game doesn't have a sequel or plans for a sequel? I can't think of one. This game was review bombed at release. I don't get it.
@@SpawnicusRex I was excited when I first saw the trailer for it but at the time of release I was playing other games and kinda forgot about it. Come spring of 2022 I bought it shortly after release on pc. Played it a bit and it didn't really catch my attention. Periodically I'd play over the last year then about 2 months ago after pushing through I was hooked with everything about the game. It was a very slow burn for me but man I'm glad I kept giving it a chance. Game is amazing.
That is tough question to answer. Technically, there is no "best" loadout because your needs will change based on what type of mission you're doing and will vary wildly based on individual playstyle. Most folks like to carry certain weapons for exploring and clearing camps and then change to different weapons while clearing Hordes. Some people like to carry the crossbow all the time and I only use it for burning Nests. Personal preference plays a huge part when picking weapons in Days Gone. My favorite loadout, though it isn't necessarily the best, is the Auto Shotgun for a primary, the SMP9 for a sidearm and the best sniper rifle I can get at that time in the story. If you are looking for an all around "good for all situations" loadout I recommend the Chicago Chopper, BFG and SMP9. With those three and a few throwables you can handle anything the game can throw at you, up to and including the biggest Hordes.
@@SpawnicusRex Every time you said it I thought it was hysterical. I had to comment! 🤣 Great videos brother. Thanks for doing them! I got the game on a Halloween sale and started playing but figured I should research first. Glad I did. 👍🏻

Line it up and let them walk into it, nothing to it. That and spamming focus mode 😆 Seriously though, thank you and thanks for watching!
A useful tip is to search police cars for ammo.
Still pumping the Days Gone vids Rex ,you must be this games number one fan for sure, love your videos mate and i hope in the future you cover some other games like Eden Ring when it comes out next year or others ,Great Vids mate and obviously you love this game which is good i must admit .

Wow... this is a somewhat comprehensive tips and tricks compared to others... and you have a nice soothing voice..
Thank you, hope the video helped you!
Very helpful video! I'm not that far into the game, and I haven't fought a single horde yet. They still scare the crap out of me :)
It gets easier. I beat my first horde by accident 😅 kinda ran into it and just ran with it
I liked the game alot before but now I'm hooked.
That did the trick 😄
But soon I will have to gather courage to do it "for real", down on the ground, running like a scared rabbit...
That left a stain or two in my underwear 😆
Love the stealthier moments though.
A lot of hate on this game but I like it. Wish there was more stuff like different outfits, more weapons, more camps
A lot of content got cut so they could make their release deadlines but yes, definitely a hidden gem of a game!
The amount of time I have wasted throwing a rock in an opposite direction to distract them to get a stealth kill. I can just throw the rock at them then run up and stealth kill them. What a time saver.
YES! This tip helped so much when I first started playing! Thanks for watching
Use the freakers against Rippers, they just stand there and get eaten. Use the flashlight/headlight to stagger freakers.
It will teach you everything you need to know to make killing hordes look easy. Happy hunting: ua-cam.com/video/_42DO9BhGUo/v-deo.htmlsi=SF4hgJJrfFzk5Dux
The horde killing tip was brilliant!!
Thanks.
Had this game on my ps4 for a long time. Just booted it up. I should have never slept on this game. Its fun as hell. Ty for the vid.
"I should not have slept on this game" is one of the most common things I hear about Days Gone lol. Welcome to the club and thanks for watching!
I love this game, I've been playing it since it came out, the only game I've played more than 2 times
I can't get enough of it either. It's one of the few games that I finished and immediately started a new playthrough
One of the best games i have ever played..i played it like 4 times..
Good find!
the game got a lot easier. thanks rex.

The rock/ boot knife combo and smoke bomb on wolves tips were very helpful and I’m 89 hours in 😅
Nice, I'm so glad you found my video helpful!
This is the best tip video out there! Im late to the party but thank you for this!

Just started playing this game, so was glad to find your video,
One question for you, when you are lining up the head shots, how are you slowing down the time?
There is a Ranged tree skill called "Focus Shot". Get that skill and put a few Nero injectors in the Focus attribute. 👍
Best DG tips vid by far
Thank you! I've got a few new ones releasing soon too!

Easily my favourite game of the last couple of years. Unfortunately it started lagging last year on my PC due to a sound bug which I wasn't able to fix despite all attempts.
Aww crap man! I've seen that post on the Days Gone subreddit, I wish I knew a way to help with that one!
I prefer to Duke it out with the horde I like how the game makes you panic a little bit Fun game
How did you backup camera like a run pls just tell me rex
Hi! I know this is late but hopefully this will help somebody still: I use the two sticks and pull the left trigger (L2) to aim. Aim with L2 and use the sticks to look around and move.
Very helpfull. Thank you 👍👍☺☺
Thank you, I really enjoyed making that video! I love sharing all those little tips that I found for Days Gone.
And dont throw the attractor near people because they will stomp on it 😅😂
That's true! I like to throw Attractor Bombs near armored heavies... they run up to stomp them and BOOM!
The Machete is a much better early game weapon than the Axe. The Machete is even better than the Spiked Bat.
I didt even know it came on PC until like the other day....much better looking then on console
Yes! PS4 is good, PS5 is better... PC is king!
Thanks for the great video my dude!
You bet, I'm glad you found my video helpful. Thanks for watching!
No problem!
Any more super loot locations in crater lake?

I interacted with the map and used the towers to look or clear the map and it doesn't show or do anything
Brilliant video thank you
Glad you enjoyed it, thank you!
"May-lay" not "me-lay"!
Yeah yeah, I'm from Texas man. We talk funny lol
I can't believe they're not making a sequel to this game. What other Sony exclusive game doesn't have a sequel or plans for a sequel? I can't think of one. This game was review bombed at release. I don't get it.
Truly a great game, one of my all time favorites! Maybe we'll get a sequel someday lol
Game is amazing.
great tips, thanks so much....
Thank you! I'm glad this helped you!
Yeey smoke bombs 💣
I love using them on the Wolves and Runners lol, they work surprisingly well on the Hordes too!
What would you say is the best weapon loadout?
Melee = “may - lay” 😂
lol, I'm not even mad that's just how we say it where I'm from. I've since been corrected by my fiancee, she's British and won't stand for it!
