For those that want to ride this, the detours in Piqua are now open. Piqua once had a nuclear power plant and they were putting in a new bridge at that site. The trails in Miami, Montgomery and Greene counties (Piqua, Troy, Dayton, Xenia, Springfield etc) is the largest network of paved trails in the U.S. Lots of options and lots of good scenery. Also, the Ohio to Erie Trail from Cincinnati to Cleveland goes through Xenia (not the section that you were on though).
That is in my "backyard". I live not far from that lock with the remnants of the lock tenders house. You can actually ride the system of trails all the way to Xenia and then to Cincinnati. The system of trails here is huge. To bad you didn't get ice cream at the Shake Shack on Rip Rap Road.
@@KeithOutside your videos on the Ohio to Erie Trail helped me prepare for that ride. If you want any tips or suggestions on this trail system, just let me know.
You must be talking about the entire Miami Valley Trail system which is 340 miles of trails within the region. The Great Miami Trail only gets you to about Trenton, OH then you have to ride a road {looks like it is OH route 4 or Hamilton Middletown Road} from Trenton to Hamilton to get to the other trail segment to go to Fairfield, Ohio. No Cincy here. But if you ride the Mad River and Creekside Trails to the Xenia Hub, the Little Miami Scenic Trail will certainly get you to Cincinnati.
I enjoyed viewing this video and riding this trail virtually with you. I have ridden {or at least seen} two small parts of this trail and you showed them both. First the part near Piqua. I saw that bridge out sign near the second detour you showed. For the most part, I crossed over the Great Miami Trail and used that Ohio to Indiana trail westbound as I was riding from Columbus, Oh {I'm a Columbus buckeye} to Greenville, Oh, a 91 mile one way excursion to make a Facebook Marketplace purchase. Ohio to Indiana trail was the only actual trail part of my route and it does not go to Indiana, it takes you from Piqua to about 10 miles further west and I think there is supposed to be a part further east that is closed off by the construction (I rode May 14, 2023} . The next part of the trail I've ridden and recognized was the Dayton, Ohio segments. When I ride to Dayton, which is a 72 mile trek from Columbus first to Xenia then the Creekside and Mad River Trails into Dayton, the Mad River Trail comes to this Great Miami Trail right there in Downtown Dayton. The Dayton Ohio Major Taylor Cycling Club often route parts of their "signature ride" along the Great Miami Trail and I've ridden with that group from the Downtown Dayton area on to Miamisburg. It was a joy to see virtually some of the other sections of that great trail I've yet to put my own tires on and pedal.
Glad you liked the video. Looks like there are a lot of amazing trails in western Ohio. I've only been on a few of them. Looking forward to riding them!
Looks like a nice ride. I'm heading out this weekend for my longest ride yet, about 85 miles. I want to make sure I can get it done in the allotted RAGBRAI time.
That's a good day of riding ! 58 miles ! Trail looks great
Thanks! Really enjoyed all the river views on this trail.
Thanks for sharing Keith, It's always fun tagging along with you.
Thanks! It was a fun ride.
Nicely done, told me enough to try it myself. I like to see video of the trail surface, wooded areas and confusing intersections; you covered it all.
Thanks! It’s a great trail.
I just rode this last month on my trip out there - I cannot wait to finish it!! That was fun to watch.
When in doubt "Follow the River".. that Freeze dried popsicle looked terrible.. Always fun riding with Keith 🚴🙂
No more freeze dried ice cream for me 🤣
Great video!
Thanks!

Really enjoyed this trail. Got a lot of exploring to do in this area.

I haven’t ridden that part of the state much. Looking forward to exploring it.

RAGBRAI is almost here! Can’t wait.
Great videos I’m really interested in what your equipment you riding and your gear would love to see a video on it
Thanks! I’m not much of a gear guy but I might do one.
Thanks for the video. Map My Ride has these trails on it's website. You can download the route and get voice directions.
I need to do that. I seem to get turned around easily 😄
Freeze dried ice cream , maybe , is that what you call the jitters.
Dorothy got into trouble following the yellow brick road.
Just don't follow the yellow brick road.
😀
