  • In July 2012, Sandy Wexler went to the dentist for a routine checkup where her dentist noticed one of Sandy’s lymph nodes was enlarged. When a biopsy revealed she had squamous cell carcinoma, she was referred to MD Anderson for treatment. While undergoing treatment at MD Anderson, Sandy discovered that her cancer was the result of the human papillomavirus (HPV). Hear Sandy's story.

Don’t worry it’s literally surgery that’s all you’ll be good. If they offer radiation speak to another doctor they do it so they “clean up” anything left behind. Just a bump in the road not the end of it. You got this. It’s not a death sentence.

The HPV vaccine is covered by all insurance, for anyone under 50 years old. Anyone who doesn't get it is making a huge mistake. All you have to do is to walk in the drugstore and get it. There are coupons available from the manufacturer, if you are uninsured. Ask your pharmacist.

My wonderful 93 year old Mum was diagnosed with this on the side of her tongue in December just gone, no treatment available for her whatsoever, obviously her age!
I am in the UK, she was 91/2 stone to start with, she is about 51/2 now, cannot walk on her own, just drinks cups of tea while choking, in between being asleep!
I have her at my house, and it is unbearable to see this happening to her!
She had never suffered any bad health in her life, was riding a bike till 86,no meds ever in her life!
I seriously just want it to be over, no one should live like this!!! F...k cancer!!

HPV--the wart virus----is everywhere, you do not exclusively get it through sex. This woman in this video is describing throat cancer, from HPV, which can be transmitted by kissing. And like most viruses, it can be transmitted by shaking hands, touching door knobs and gas pumps, etc.

This lady is not making it very clear, her squamous cell carcinoma is in her throat. Squamous cell carcinoma can be anywhere in the body, including lungs or skin. HPV----the wart virus---has only been tied to cancer of certain body parts so far: cervix, throat, and anus, primarily. HPV causes 90% of cervical cancer, and 70% of throat cancer and anal cancers. It has yet to be established as to whether HPV causes squamous cell skin cancer or squamous cell lung cancer, the possible link is being studied now. Everyone under 50 is eligible for the HPV vaccine. It can be obtained at your drug store, ask your pharmacist.
