      Aaron B,
      Thanks Aaron! When I was writing the script I kept in mind all the things I hate about most exhaust reviews.... Did you notice I didn't rev the engine to redline while parked? (my biggest pet peeve :)
      I used a skateboard, GoPro, a large LED light and a skateboard to shoot under the car while it was on ramps.
      Over all, I am pleased with how the video turned out. Sometimes you have a "good" plan, but when you shoot it it looks bad.
      I wonder what the exhaust will look like at the second year mark?

    • @aaronbergman8010
      @aaronbergman8010 6 років тому +1

      Well in most exhaust videos you normally get: Revs or drive by on a new install, which is great, but doesn't give you the real exhaust sound in my opinion. I've owned exhausts on almost all my cars and notice after awhile you break the mufflers in and they open up a bit which does change the sound from initial install.
      What are you using for the outside the car audio and video? It's very clean and I really would like to get a set-up like that to do driving videos, if you don't mind sharing of course.
      I would love to hear the exhaust at the 2 year mark and see an under shot again, I wonder if repainting would help it through our harsh Canadian winters? I know next year I will have to polish my stainless pipes due to all the surface rust.

      @MotorvateDIY  6 років тому +2

      Hey Aaron B,
      I have no issue sharing my set up. I use a GoPro Hero 4 Black on a 11" magic arm from Amazon with a 4.5" suction cup.
      The GoPro has an OK mic for the lower frequencies and with it being tucked in behind the car, there is not much wind noise.
      I also spend a little time in post production cleaning up the audio.
      I will add a 2 Year review video to the production schedule for July 2018, just for you :)

    Please keep the videos coming. I drive a g37 imported to north Africa, no dealers and barely any decent mechanics/electricians. This encourages me to fix and maintain as much as I can on my own.

    Came back after watching tons of G35 catback videos. This is by far the best sounding of all in my opinion. It's deeper with no scratchy/raspy noise all while still sounding like an import..hard to explain. But thanks for the great video and nice ride!

      Hey Jack Lansdale,
      Thanks for your kind words!
      Other than the sound, the other thing I like about the Stillen cat back exhaust was the excellent fitment when I put it on. I have not had a bang or rattle in the 4 years it has been on the car.
      As silly as it sounds, I look forward to the spring/summer when I can have the windows open while going through the gears :)

    Thank you so much for this video. I recently bought a2011 g37 convertible sport and it came with a terrible universal cat converter job and made the car miserable to drive. I was looking for something quiet, but that will sound good when you get it on.
    This is the answer. I added Berk HFC and the Stillen exhaust and it's perfect. No drone, quiet when cruising and idling, but will let people know you're there when WOT. No rasp either.
    Thank you again for this video!

    1:19 As a 20 yo, I can say that I despise the typical obnoxious exhausts that young people usually put on their cars because they think loud = sound good.
    The way I see it, I want to hear the engine as I drive, I dont want everyone in the neighborhood to be woken up if I happen to start it at 4am. This exhaust system sounds perfect.
    My 17 year old coworker bought an E34 525i BMW and I was impressed. Until he slammed it 3 inches the next day and intentionally cut a hole in the exhaust pipe to make it louder. I have resented him and his car tastes ever since.

      Thanks for your comment. I haven't watched that episode in a few years so I re-watched it today.
      I still stand by how I felt 5 years ago... It is a very good exhaust, as it doesn't annoy the cops or neighbours, makes a fantastic sound for the driver, and is about to enter its 8th salty road, Canadian winter without any issues.
      Exhaust preference/sound level a personal choice. However, many regions have passed laws to combat any aftermarket/loud/strait pipe exhausts... this exhaust sounds just a little louder than stock, and allows the wonderful VQ sound!

      @@MotorvateDIY Any rust of concern so many years later?

    • @MotorvateDIY
      @MotorvateDIY  Рік тому +1

      Not really. There is surface rust on the Y-pipe, which is the hottest part of the Stillen Exhaust, so that expected.
      In two months, it will be 7 years old, and been through 7 salty Canadian winters, so I am VERY happy with it and how well it is holding up.
      This summer, I will be doing a 7 year update episode and you will see for your self.

    Hey Frank I noticed that the car has a bit of a hop at initial acceleration which is typical of Gs and Zeds. I have not done the mods you have done (K&N, Stillen exhaust at least not yet). I have gone for mods which increase the effectiveness of the power that the car puts down. To eliminate the hop I decided to install solid rear aluminum bushings. I had a shop do it and it was a TERRIBLE job but the end result can not be argued with and the car really does not ride that much more stiffly. Anyway enjoy your car and our salty Canuck winters . My ride (370Z) stays in the garage all winter.

      The smoothness of the 328 is wonderful due to the inline 6, but the power of the G37 is also nice.

      Hey Lorentzoe 45,
      Maybe... but only if I need to replace them for a failure or upgrade.
      Thanks for the comment on the effort, I am glad you noticed. It is very interesting how much time it takes to make something short and to the point, without loosing too much detail. On average each episode takes about 50 hours of scripting, shooting, and editing.
      Many people have commented that I should get a "tune", but in Toronto the cost is around $1,000, which is more than I want to spend for the HP gains.
      Mod Options for 2018:
      - K&N vs New OEM vs no filter dyno take 2
      - Post MAF Tubes with before/after dyno mght be in my future.
      - Street/Track brake pads. Even with the Sport Brakes, by OEM pads didn't do very well. A Future episode will provide details.
      - NAV update? not really a mod, but my area has changed a lot since 2011 :)
      - DIY Larger Power Steering cooler from junk yard parts.
      - DIY engine oil cooler from junk yard parts.
      - DIY oil pressure gauge., yup from junk yard parts.
      That is the plan for now, but it could all change in the spring!

    Very nice review. I just bought a 2014 Pearl White Nissan Maxima, just turned 30,000 Miles. Been looking on UA-cam last few weeks listening to all the different exhaust systems, for the 2009-2014 Maxima's. Want something a little louder than Stock, Not Super Loud and Popping, like alot of the people doing Mufflers and Resonator Deletes, i think they sound like Shit especially Resonator Deletes. The Stillen looks like Excellent Quality and the Sound I'm looking for. Seems like you're Happy with your Stillen Exhaust. I will probably be ordering mine up soon. Just gotta decide on the Axle Back for around $500 or the Cat Back around $880. Just seems like alot of extra money if i go with the Cat Back, which includes the Resonator Pipe, for about $380 More than the Axle Back System.

    Also: How was the car during winter? I got my G37s over spring and it's my first RWD car so with winter coming up kinda worries me haha. I'm glad I got it with winter tires at the very least.

      Hey pat_0701,
      Thanks for the kind words on the videos. It's a labour of love!
      I don't know which spoiler you are talking about (front or rear) , but both are Infiniti accessories.
      My car is from California and I suspect that area had an unique package that included different rims (9 spoke), front and rear spoiler and the "midnight" (black) grill.
      As for winter driving, with your winter tires you will be fine. The traction/stability control work VERY well.
      You might want to find na empty area during a fresh snow fall, turn off stability/traction control and see what the car does. I find it to be very predictable and easy to "catch" when the rear steps out.

    Do you have any additional tips to help with the winter/salt on the car overall?

    • @MotorvateDIY
      @MotorvateDIY  6 років тому

      Hey nandosman,
      Good question.
      Once per year, I get my car sprayed oil at Krown Rustpoofing (krown.com). They spray the underside and inside the doors, hood and trunk. They do have to drill some small holes to do this, but after they spray in the oil, they put in plastic plugs with great to prevent any corrosion.
      Also, I take my car through a car wash about every 3-4 weeks. They have an under body of water spray which should reduce the salt on the bottom of the car.
      Also, if possible, try not to drive the car when salt (or the sticky salt brine) is just being dumped on the road.

    One question here, do you need catalytic converters with this exhaust ?

    • @MotorvateDIY
      @MotorvateDIY  5 років тому

      Hey Steven Martinez,
      Generally, catalytic converters are legally required for any street legal car.
      For off-road purposes, the catalytic converts can be replaced with a "test pipe"
      So, you can use a test pipe with this (or any other) exhaust.
      BUT since the engine control unit (ECU) is always testing how well the catalytic converter is working,
      you will get a check engine light with a P0420/P0430 code "Catalyst Converter efficiency below threshold"
      unless you get a custom ECU tune or use a rear o2 sensor extension tube.

      Hey Hunter & Ales Brewing,
      I am glad you found my channel :)
      My biggest worry with the high flow cats, is a check engine light for a "Catalyst System Efficiency Below Threshold" code.
      There have been a few folks on the G37 forums that have spent the money and labour getting the hi-flow cats installed, only to have a check engine light come after a while. If you don't have an emission test, then I guess that you don't need to worry.
      Where I live we have an emissions test every two years and I don't want to take a chance.
      PLUS I really don't want my car any louder.

      Thanks for the quick response. I dont have emissions where I'm at (in the country) but I think just adding the extra diameter is going to be enough to help the V.Q unleash some noise. I appreciate your video and link to the paint and ODB 2 codes. Thanks a ton. Freaking love my G37. Every time I drive it I have a huge smile. Only issues I'm having are with my cluster. 😡 temp gauge and gas gauge LED's went out along with the analog clock. I might need to play with the clock to see if I wanna tackle the cluster. Only 70,000 miles on her right now. Cheers to you! I look forward to more videos!

      Hey Hunter & Ales Brewing,
      We share the same thoughts on the G37.... big smile every time we drive it, especially with the windows down in the summer with the Stillen exhaust. I love it :)
      That's odd about your temp and gas gauge LEDs going out. Your gas and temperature gauge both have 4 surface mount LEDs to light the dial and the needle. Are the back of the temp/gas gauge out AND the needles?

    • @hunteralesbrewing153
      @hunteralesbrewing153 6 років тому

      Windows down sounds like a dream right now! Lol
      Both temp gauge and gas gauge needles are illuminated. The back lighting is out. During the day its difficult to read with the glare but I can see where the needle is. The temp gauge back lighting was going in and out at first but now completely off. I feel like the gas gauge is acting a little weird as well but I think I found out that reason. Going to put a couple bottles of Chevron Techron Plus in the tank within the next couple of fill ups. I've searched and searched and searched for anything related to the gauge lights but have come up empty. Only thing I can think is that they are out along with the analog Infiniti clock. I just find it very odd that it would have done that with only 70,000 miles on it. I've checked the fuss box down by the left foot and everything looked good. I thought about reaeting the ECU but I didnt want to go there just yet till I did more research.

    • @MotorvateDIY
      @MotorvateDIY  6 років тому +1

      It sounds like you have a few burned out LEDs in your gauge cluster. They are not easily changed (surface mount LEDs + gauge cluster must be 100% dismantled) , unlike the old days when you could replace a bulb.
      Your analog clock and gauge back light issue are not related. They are on two different circuits. The clock issue is not wide spread, but it is known. Do a quick search on my37.com to see how others have fixed this.
      There is no need to reset your ECU, it doesn't control your dash lights. The "Unified Meter and A/C Amp" does.

      As for a change in fuel economy with the Stillen exhaust I really can't say. My driving is not consistent enough for the data to mean any thing. For example, with the construction in my area, it often takes me an hour in stop and go traffic to do 32 km (20 miles). Then on the weekends, I can do the same 32 KM in under 20 minutes.
      In stop and go traffic I average about 12.5 liter/100KM or almost 19 mpg.

      Stillen says this exhaust will fit AWD as well:

    Title should include what car you're talking about.

      Hey moto bazuka,
      Yes. Stock cats with Stillen cat back exhaust and K&N drop in panel filters. Stock tune.

      @@MotorvateDIY thanks for the reply good Sir! Sounds nice! I want to get his exhaust but with test pipes but I know it'll probably sound very raspy, even with resonators. Maybe I should go vibrant ultra quiet resonators

      @@motobazuka2535 I think you are right about the sounds of the test pipes. It is my understanding that the resonated Fast Intentions test pipes sound good. You might want to do some searching at myg37.com as there is a lot of good information there.
      Good luck!

      Hey JB Hix,
      It took me a while to understand your comment, but I finally got it :)
      Driving the G37 in the snow is a lot of fun!

      I live in Nevada, which ironically means “snow” in Spanish. Not a lot of snow though. Mostly desert.
