Always happy to hear you share your wisdom Toms! So many impressive captures featured in this video, btw!! I keep thinking about buying an 85mm lens, but I remain sceptical because a) it's full frame b) I heard you say it's not a good option for video
Hey buddy, I love the lens and its amazing for video when you use it on Full Frame camera, but for APS-C I feel like its bet too much to handle (too limiting). For APS-C (and especially if you wanna do videos) I would choose something between 30-35mm to 50-56mm. Although I must say that some of my favorite photos (even on apsc) has been shot with the 85mm :)
I have the 50mm instead of 35mm.. 85mm is a beast of a lens...
I got the 18mm - 135mm what you think about it?
Re: the Sony A6000....for a senior it is lightweight, esp. with a lens like the Sony 28mm FE and can easily fit into a jacket pocket. Also, living in a big USA city with crime it is a low cost item and not conspicuous.
have you ever tried the tamron 32-150? or the samyang? with both aps-c and full frame? if you do please give your opinion as i´m thinking on getting one of those... Thanks for the video!
I have never ever used any of Samyang or Tamron lenses, but it is very high on my list to try them out so stay tuned friend, will try to get one of them soon.
I have the 24-105 the 85 F1.8 but I went with the 35 F1.4 GM, the 35 F1.8 would be very close though and a lot less expensive. One more lens to add would be an ultra wide, I use the 14mm F1.8 and love it for certain shots. If I had to choose 3 to take with me for general photography I would do the 24-105mm F4, 35mm F1.4 and 14mm F1.8.
Great choice buddy! I was also contemplating a lot if I should buy 35mm GM, Sigma one or the F1.8. In the end, I couldn't convince myself that I need the GM and im happy with the choice (based on the size, price and performance), I would like to hear your thoughts on what convinced you to get the GM because I have the same exact struggle with the 50mm (1.4GM vs Sigma 1.4)
One of the reasons was filter size, at 67mm it also matched the 85mm F1.8 that I use and can share filters with. I also wanted at least one versatile F1.4 lens, my absolute low light go to lens. One other thing is that with the A7iv it has focus breathing compensation but it only works with native sony lenses. Also I got to try the lens out on a friends camera first and kind of fell in love with it so the 35mm F1.4 GM was one I really wanted to get@@TomsJurjaks

I have a Sony 24-105 F4 with a Sony 70-200 F2.8. Still trying to get a third lens.😁

@@TomsJurjaks One of my best investments yet. It's on my camera body like 90% of the time.
But I still have some doubts about its weather sealing when compared to my older Canon 70-200 is ii.
How is 17-70mm f2.8 tamron and an 85mm f1.8 lens combination for sony aps-c cameras!! Then later you can buy a 70-200mm f2.8 if required
I absolutely love my Tamron 17-70 f2.8. A perfect all around lens, amazing sharpness. Could be a bit smaller though but Im okay with it. I also love the 85mm but I feel like it's "too much" on apsc - its like a 130mm focal length. I would go with Sigma 56mm f1.4 instead or better yet Sigma 30mm f1.4. Much more versatile.
Hello my friend, Great and informative video, please I would really appreciate it if you read my comment and reply. I do cooking videos and I would like to find Sony camera lens that is able to take 4k image to a cooking pan from about a meter away to avoid the heat and the splashing oil but at the same time to be able to zoom very close to get a micro image to the ingredients. I would really appreciate your help.

Only one? 🫣 I would then say 35mm. Versatile enough, can always crop in a little for "extra zoom" and if used on APS-C camera - gives a 50mm focal length :)
@@TomsJurjaks North Borders also recommend that lens in his description. I was thinking about 85mm and it's perfect because we can take photos horizontally to catch the whole landscape but generally 50mm is also good, more natural faces. I would pick 85mm - more comfortable for you and people who you take photos of.
