How to Disable Automatic Windows Updates Permanently?
In this video, I'll show you a simple, step-by-step process to disable automatic Windows updates on your PC. This tutorial will help you take control of your updates and avoid interruptions.
Steps to Disable Automatic Updates on Windows:
1. Access Services:
- Right-click on the Start icon.
- Select 'Run'.
- Type `services.msc` and hit 'OK'.
2. Locate Windows Update Service:
- In the Services window, scroll down or select any application and press 'W' to jump to the 'Windows Update' option.
- Right-click on 'Windows Update' and select 'Properties'.
3. Disable the Service:
- In the 'Startup type' dropdown, select 'Disabled'.
- Hit 'Apply' then 'OK'.
4. Edit the Registry (Permanent Disabling):
- Press the Windows key + R to open the Run window.
- Type `regedit` and hit 'OK'.
- Navigate to `HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE` and click on it.
- Under `HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE`, look for 'Software' and click on it.
- Find 'Policies' and click on it.
- Under 'Policies', select 'Microsoft' and click on it.
- Right-click on 'Windows', select 'New', and then choose 'Key'. Name this new key 'WindowsUpdate' (no spaces).
- Right-click on 'WindowsUpdate', select 'New', and then choose 'Key' again. Name this new key 'AU'.
- With 'AU' selected, right-click on the blank space, select 'New', and choose 'DWORD (32-bit) Value'. Name this 'NoAutoUpdate' and press 'Enter'.
- Double-click on 'NoAutoUpdate' and set its value to '1'. Hit 'OK'.
