Just a quick tip!
Why is a ball thrown upwards considered free falling even though our hand exerted a force upon it?
When you let go of the ball, you are not exerting a force upon it anymore. The velocity of the ball would stay the same and continue to space if there were no forces acting upon it (inc gravity). The velocity of the ball changes because gravity becomes the sole force acting upon it and the ball is now free falling. The ball does not 'carry the force' or anything. The ball has a positive (non zero) velocity at first when it is moving upwards due to the force that had been on the ball but there is no force acting on the ball anymore.

An object is in free fall when the force acting on it is exclusively gravitational. But why then the moon is in free fall? Isn't there centrifugal force acting on it?

@@radhekrishna_12344 no - there is no such thing as a centrifugal force. It APPEARS that you are being flung out, but the force is actually centripetal, towards the centre.
Without gravity the moon would travel in a straight line. The gravitational force between the earth and moon pulls the moon round in a circle, as it it were held by a long rope from earth. Let go the rope and the moon travels along in a straight path - try it with a ball on a string which you swing round your head. Notice the direction the ball travels at the moment you let go. So the only force on the moon is the centripetal force of gravity.
If you want to get technical. There are no forces at all on an object in free fall. Free fall is simply when an object is only under the influence of gravity. Centrifugal force is a fictitious force in that it arises only INSIDE rotating reference frames. In other words, the "force" that causes you to be pushed in your car toward the right when making a left hand turn is the same as the "force" that causes you to be pushed toward the front of the car when you hit the brakes. The "force" is inertial - meaning it is actually the result of your own inertia. The car accelerates and you want to maintain your state of motion. You are in an accelerated frame of reference, and if you are making the observation from inside this reference frame (where the car itself is stationary relative to you), it's YOU that accelerates. It's other things in the car that appear to accelerate when in reality, it's the car that is accelerating. All those "forces" that appear real from inside the frame do not exist if you are outside the accelerated frame. This is technically no different than how gravity works - as per Einstein, gravity is not a force, but it creates the physical equivalent to an accelerated reference frame, and the feeling you get of being pushed toward the ground is no different than the feeling you get when you are pushed toward the front of a braking car or to the side of a turning car. These are all the same thing : fictitious forces that arise due to being inside an accelerated reference frame. When you free fall, you are no longer in an accelerated reference frame, and you feel nothing. There is no gravity. There is no centrifugal force. There is nothing. However, you are under the influence of gravity because gravity dictates the severity of the curve your free fall. So, technically you could say free fall is when you are free from all forces - including gravity since it is not a force.

At free fall, the object still has acceleration due to gravity, which is 9.8 m/s^2
It doesn't matter. Just be consistent. If downward is negative, the upward is positive. Gravity would be negative in this case. If downward is positive, upward is negative, and gravity would be positive. You'll arrive at the same answers when doing calculations.
