For some reason in every big city, I’ve always encountered a homeless woman in fancy clothes, taking endlessly about her life, and looking like she either recently had a breakdown, or is about to. Every single big city, there’s always one of those women. This movie felt like their story being told to me, by a brilliant actress and a brilliant director. Love this movie
Ill be one of those women soon. My sister got r@ped by her father when she was 4 (police did nothing) and now shes in so much denial that she believes her father didnt do anything because she cant handle the truth I guess. She has a baby baby girl now and lets her father babysit her and theres nothing I can do about it because there was no proof of any abuse. Ive made many comments about this but nobody has anything to say. I feel sanity slipping away everyday. If anyone is interested it goes isolation from friends first, so they wont care when you live on the street and go crazy. Im prepared to live on the street not living in reality just so i wont feel so absolutely powerless. Theres always a way out yall ,just make some sacrifices
Cate stole the entire movie, as always, with her expertise in acting. This is indeed a bleak ending. In a way, she brought this upon herself. And of course, although we dislike Jasmine throughout the movie, we end up feeling sorry for her. She was rich and a socialite, and ends up homeless in the street, with a mental illness on top of it all. That is a good story about a downfall.
@@AlexanderNovak0 tee hee. Not disliking Cate, the character she played. No way I would dislike Cate. She's the best actress of her generation and she's my favourite actress of them all.
Ginger didn't love or even like Chili; she was settling for him. Jasmine might've been mentally ill, but Ginger's ending is just as depressing, living with someone she only tolerated because she didn't love herself enough to know her worth.
I completely disagree.Ginger came to the realization that Chili was a real man who loved her. She saw him finally as a good, loving man who would make her happy. @@125Dave8 I do not think she "settled"at all. Her ending was a very happy one.
I love the part the woman she talked non stop in the plane just ran off from her the moment she got off the plane. hahahaha. She can see the insanity in her. lolol
If she's totally withdrawn into her own mind and is continuously reliving moments of her life when she was happier or more successful, that might just count as the happiest ending possible for her character by the end of this film.
Unfortunately no. In reality she would end up being picked up by cops and then baker acted. She’d be heavily medicated and then she’d jump out the psychosis to see she’s in a mental institution; quite a rude awakening! Karma in some sense considering she knew what her husband was doing
@ I mean ultimately we are responsible for ourselves but I don’t think this is the overall message of the film or the source material, ‘A Streetcar named Desire’. I’d argue it’s a portrayal of how some are strong and others fragile, it’s life that can either make you stronger or more fragile, depending on how you view the world. I also think it portrays how quick life can unravel and the decent into mania.
Is it? Isn't one of her parents american? And most american accents are really easy to pick up anyway, especially when everyone is exposed to so much American media. I'm more impressed by something more challenging like Kate Winslet's Delco accent in Mare of Easttown.
Cate Blanchett succeeds in doing something very complicated here: She plays her role such that you don't know if you should love her or hate her. it's a bit of both at the same time. and in the end, the spectator pities her. the movie leaves us with no positive prospect for her in the future, the protagonist's life is doomed.
I think they both saw that she was feeling terrible. It is seen on the face of Sally Hawkins's character as well as on the face of her boyfriend. The actors acted it welll. But their characters were a little drunk and celebrating and Ginger was sort of offended at Jasmine and she made herself not pay attention to Jasmine's breakdown at this moment and go on celebrating. And as for Ginger's boyfriend he was already sick and tired of this sister. I understood it this way.
They were happy she was moving out and he was moving on. Their lives were about to continue as they had planned. Jeanette told them she was moving to Vienna and marrying . They didn’t care. Like Jeanette never cared. Except for Hal and Danny. Who both betrayed her.
Allen definitely produce a good movie here, that's for sure. And Cate is always the one turning my eyes. Actually she always has this effect on me in all the movies she starred in.
I disliked Ginger almost as much as Jasmine. She divorced her husband when they were both victim’s of Jasmine’s ex. Defended Jasmine to her ex, cheated on Chili and dumped him. She’s lucky to get anything close to a happy ending.
Nah, in TAR the depth and layers she had brought to the character is nothing short of an acting masterclass, dialogue heavy character is not an easy feat to carry, not to mention how many oners, closeups, and steady cams TAR had that put most of the weight on Blanchett's shoulders. It's unfortunate that industry failed to recognise that monumental performance, she was utterly snubbed at Oscars.
Nah she excelled in TAR. Layers and complexity she brought to Lydia is masterclass in acting. This performance definitely for the books, will be studied in acting schools. This opinion is from actor friend btw
Woody Allen is a great artist , yet Stan or Netflix cancelled his last movie because of unproven and untested allegations. Horrible that we won’t see it because of that.
Not really, imho. She is more borderline as someone said. She made poor choices in life and then it was too late Mid life crisis is beyond narcicism, cause you cannot save yourself as you could when you were younger 20-something

What a towering performance by Cate! Certainly one of all time best performances.
Ive never realized how perfectly timed that tracking shot is from Ginger running with the pizza to the wall to Jasmine walking out the door.
Always have loved Cate Blanchett. Exudes class every time! Blue Jasmine gives me Guy de Maupassant vibes.
none of us deserve being homeless and unloved. No matter how shallow, crazy, selfish we might become.
Yes it matters
Incredible movie
This performance is master class in acting.
Cate is so amazing
Chili and her are infinitely happier than Jasmine ever was
I agree. That last scene of those two having fun was to be envied. Honestly, Sally and Chili have ended way better than Jasmine did.

I’ve been in a similar situation. It’s hard to get out of the past and miss your old life where everything was easy.
“I’ve always relied on the kindness of strangers”
She is Blanche all the way.
And then we look at the cost of that. This film is a hard lesson on being responsible for ourselves.

Not necessarily
Living together VS Staying together. Theres a difference.
What a genius she is , how lucky woman honestly
Solo tengo una palabra para ella impresionante Bravo 👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏❤️🌟
Estoy de acuerdo con vos 👏 ella es muy talentosa
Cate Blanchett was at her best in this one.
She even surpassed in Tar
Themes here parallel TAR.
how in the world could someone be that good
Loved everything about his movie except Bobby Cannavale's hair 🤣
Oh my god. I said that out loud while watching this and here is your comment!! Oh his hair is awful!!
the area I live has lots of homeless. especially woman . it's heartbroken. I am afraid it could happen to me.
are u saying her character went homeless?...well it is San Francisco I guess.
Los Angeles?
How can they not see that she is feeling terrible
They're celebrating, and they're drunk. Also, she was constantly unhappy about one thing or another. They've learned to shrug it off. :-/

Woody Allen exceeds Mike Leigh. BJ is his best movie IMO. Utterly terrifying.
Terrifying is actually the best way to describe this last scene!

They both stand on their own as directors. Another Year and All or Nothing are great films.
The last scene reminds me of idk what alia atreides could be like in Dune children of dune
Sally Hawkins is also excellent in this scene

This movie is her best. Not Tár. This movie is like the textbook acting
To me, even if I did not like Tar, her acting in it was so out of this world that she outdid herself here in Jasmine.
