The Mystery Room-Petty johns Cave

massive pits, slippery rope climbs, tight spaces, and getting lost are some of the challenges we faced on our way to the Mistery Room in pettyjohn cave. Along the way we stopped at the biggest room in the cave called the Echo Room to see just how big it is!!!

I wend down in a mud cave in Harrisonburg VA a long time ago. Took us 4 hours to get to the bottom, we got lost on the way back up, we were down the over 24 hours. Thankfully we brought snacks and water and rope and some spikes to get back up really slick mud slides. It was trial and error till we found the right path. The entrance was a small hole in a farmers field on private property.

I love the adventure of caving, though I am much too old to risk my health in attempting anything remotely similar to this! Thank you for the 'first-person' view of the descent, but I can assure you, I will never explore any of these amazing subterranean passages myself! I'll stick to touring the numerous, commercially-operated tourist caves!
