Painting with Two Colors provides a unified watercolor painting by having both colors in all parts of the composition. Burnt Sienna and Ultramarine Blue are complementary colors and mix to produce beautiful gray colors for skies, mountains, trees, buildings, roads and shadows.
The value plan is needed to show where the light and dark values are in the composition to lead the viewer through the painting. Three different Holbein brushes ¾” Flat, #6 Round, #4 Rigger are demonstrated to paint the different objects in the painting.
Wet Media Acetate is introduced in the video to show how an object is planned to get the proper size and location prior to adding to the painting. The Wet Media Acetate accepts watercolor and is easily cleaned off and reusable as an art tool.

Excel. results for 2 colors!! compositionally i wouldn't put the post under the house; looks birdhouse-ish:) Q. why doesn't b.sienna + ultram.blue not make a greenish hue?? thx for posting.
Excellent painting but u didn't showed light on mountain
Well I think I need to study color theory to understand “why” you chose these two colors & then maybe come back and watch this. I’m pretty sure they’re opposites on the color wheel spectrum. I’ve heard these opposites are very good together in art but not necessarily next to each other. But I’m still learning. Thanks.
I’m watching and hoping you’ll tell me WHY you chose those colors. I’m learning and heard those two colors are frequently used by artists. I’m trying to figure out why. A lot of ink line & wash artists do this. I’m trying to learn what the color theory is behind all this. Thank you!
