We can all thank Taylor Swift for bringing them into a wider public consciousness by name dropping them in one of her new songs released last week. What a wonderful boost.
Ha brilliant! I was there! I remember walking to the main stage and Downtown Lights had started. I was armed with a drink, a mars bar and a big joint - the rain had stopped, the sun was peeking through and The Blue Nile were on! What a way to spend a Sunday lunch... They were superb.
I don't post to UA-cam often, but Thank You doesn't seem to be enough to express just how much this video has made my day (or decade!) one of the greatest bands in the world!
Had the privilege of meeting Paul on many occasions just a down to earth Glaswegian, Blue Nile such a great band …. Hopefully concerts coming soon ❤️🤍💙
When you look up "melancholy" in a dictionary, there's a sound clip of Paul Buchanan singing. After 40 years, "Headlights" remains simply transcendent.
I'm sure I'll get some "thumbs down and comments" from others but, for me, "Peace At Last" is my favourite album due to the inclusion of guitars and more acoustic piano and better songs....there....I've said it ! A big thank you for uploading as I never watch Glastonbury ! Credit too to Robert Bell and PJ Moore who have made a significant contribution to the Blue Nile sound and it's so sad that whatever the personal differences between Moore and Buchanan can't be reconciled. Still their legacy is there for all those to explore, thank goodness. Nice to hear the track "Sentimental Man" and "Tomorrow Man" among the tracks played here. "It's not about money, it's not about love"
My friend gave me a cassette copy of walk across the footsteps in the late 80s, I'd never heard anything like it. Still play it regularly and 25 years later it was the settle down and sleep music for my two children when they were babies/toddlersr Superb
Great concert to post! I heard them around this time in Phila, and had my Sony portable DAT recorder, ready to record the concert, and I blew it. Hit the wrong button in the dark. This brings me back to that amazing night. Everything was so beautifully prepared.
Thanks for watching and commenting Bob, shame about the fumble in the dark and wrong buttons pressed, Im sure many concert recording people have similar memories of gigs missed
Thanks so much the amount of times I’ve listened to these songs when I lost my mam and dad to covid and parkinsons these songs helped me so much musicality second to non
What a great band that deserves much more recognition. Downtown Lights is one of my favorite songs of all time. Unfortunately and inexplicably, they didn't play it the one time I saw them live in Los Angeles during the 90s.
@patrickblackburn816 high five! That’s right, it was in support of their Peace at Last album. They played some choice selections from Rooftops also. But I was really bummed that they didn’t play Downtown Lights.
@patrickblackburn816 they definitely didn’t play it, unless I missed a second encore, which is unlikely since I usually stay until the house lights come on. Even decades later I remember that detail, even though I may have forgotten many other things about the show or other songs they played, because it’s not only my favorite Blue Nile song, it’s one of my favorite songs period, so the fact that I waited all night to hear the song and never heard it, and my disappointment about that despite the rest of the show being so great, is a memory that will always stay with me. I’m very curious as to why they skipped it that night.
The song at 7:23 isn't called Angels. It's Love Comes Down. That said, Tomorrow Morning is my favourite song of all time. Whoever you....thank you for posting this.
Believe it or not, Downtown Lights is low on the Blue Nile hit Parade 4me, but Here, in the last 5minutes, it's Thimply the betht!. Many thanks for the link. I'll pass yer channel info around. Blessings 2u.
How things have changed no lighting for this as probably back then the lighting designers thought whats the point its daylight whos going to see it plus it looks so quite I only missed them by a year as i started going 1998 Thanks for loading this its so nice to see them live great band kind of missed these days
Thanks for posting. It’s nice to see the inspiration for “ drowning in the blue nile, he sent me downtown lights , I hadn’t heard it in a while.” Yes I’m a swifty & these are lyrics from her latest album, a track called guilty as sin, supposedly about Matty Healy. Love this band!
What a find this is. Idk if it's true but i read a story they were once playing a show and tuning up between songs and looking all shy. Someone in the crowd shouts out 'don't be nervous, you're too good to be nervous'.
Thanks for uploading, but if you want to correct your chapter titles... Song 4 is called '"A Walk Across the Rooftops', not "I Am In Love". And the 7th song is "Tinseltown In The Rain", not "I Love You". The final song is "Headlights On The Parade", not "Love Will Survive"
@@ScottishTeeVee it's in her song called Guilty as Sin. She mentions it in the beginning of the song. The rhythm of the song also mimics it as an homage.

One of the most criminally under-rated bands of all time.... absolutely love these guys.

The Blue Nile is epic.... Hats is a treasure of an album.
@@stevenwasserman9729you got that right, epic is exactly the right word for it.

WAR album has helped me through many ragged spots in life, and recommended to many over the years, yet this is the first time I’ve seen them. Cheers.

@@ScottishTeeVeea pal of the band had all the TBN USA DAT tapes straight out of the mixing desk? Heard the full LA gig - excellent
Thanks for sharing! 40 years of A Walk Across The Rooftops ❤️🔥
Paul's voice is flawless in the first track, sounds like the record!

Thank You! I saw the BN on two separate earlier tours, in London ('Hats' tour) and Brussels ('Peace at Last' tour). This will be a great watch!
This is great! Thank you ❤

Headlights on the parade...unbeatable!

Paul Buchanan played in the GRCH this year as part of Celtic Connections 2024.
perfection
Saw them when they opened the Royal Concert Hall in Glasgow. Sublime.
Ah,the gig where Paul's sister yelled out 'mum says you look thin'. Yup, a special night.
I play a Blue Nile LP every month in the car

@@basherbarbie8450 Ah, I see. Thank for the info, I never knew.
🤠🤠🤠
Love the band, but that was liking looking at the world through the bottom of a milk bottle.
I love The Blue Nile, but that 80’s drum beat is terrible and spoils great music.
Who, besides me, is here in 2024 because Taylor Swift sent them?
