LOVE the musky content! I'm a first year musky hunter, so I can't get enough of it! I lost a Phantom just like that last week in Cave Run. It's been a grind. Losing lures, seeing lots of fish that won't eat, The Great Failure Friday when I lost three muskies in an hour the day before the PMTT tournament started, and a musky savagely hitting my Micro Medussa yesterday evening but somehow not getting the hook. When I do finally get my first on purpose musky, you'll be able to hear me a mile away!
@@SBFishing thanks for the encouragement! One big problem I'm having is getting followers to commit. I'm boatless, so I'm either on the bank or standing in the water. I had four follows yesterday. With me standing in the creek, if I can see them they can see me. But if I'm not standing in the water I can't really reach far enough to figure 8. Damned if ya do, damned if ya don't.
Only guy I've seen catching muskies barefoot !!! Hope James is feeling better too. As for the porpoising thing there are a zillion theories but the weirdest thing I've seen are muskies and sometimes northerns swimming around with their heads out of the water for long distances. Kinda freaky. First cast ever with a Lee Tauchen Boilermaker in Lake Wingra the lure got to the end of a hole and a musky stuck it's head out of the water looked at me and went back down. May have been the first cast ever in Wingra with that lure, at least for shore fishing. Also thanks for repping Fond du Lac, town I was born in. Uncle retired from Mercury and probably biggest buildings in town when I was a child.
wow, way to lull us after the first called catch, only to RKO us outta nowhere with the second! one thing i always appreciate about your videos is the attention to pacing/timing of dramatic moments. the second that music fades in...love it!
@7:10 That glidebait is a Phantom Lure. First designed in the early 90's by Todd Cleveland it was the first drop belly/minnow shaped glidebait on the market. The Phantom lure lead the way for all the other glidebaits to come. Todd was a friend of mine. I spent many hours at his house watching him paint baits and talking muskies, life, lures, and music. Our biggest disagreement was over who was the better guitar player, Jimi Hendrix (me) or Eddie Van Halen (Todd) Sadly the muskie world lost Todd last June to cancer. He was only 54.
The Phantom lure is one of my go to confidence baits. If I can't catch a fish or get one to move on a Phantom lure then the muskies just aren't active. @11:40 That's the sucker pattern paint color.
Damn, I wish yall would of went to Alum Creek. That's only 15 minutes down the road from me. Would have loved to shake yalls hands for living out my dream!! Keep it going boys!
Great job at Salt fork. I have fished that lake my entire life for bass. However, have never tried for muskie... you have inspired me to drive there and catch one of those bad boys. Loving your trip... :)
Musky Porpoise : I have been told by the biologists that musky will often come to the surface to swallow air after eating a large meal. this helps them digest. Also have seen it a lot during spawn and I'm not sure the reason for it at that time of year because they don't eat much while spawning. One things most musky anglers agree on is whenever we do see them porpoise, we hardly ever can get that fish to eat a bait. So either A: shes full from a large meal just eaten, or B: shes in baby making mode 😂 It looks like your fish in this video are definitely off spawn so I would say the fish you saw porpoise most likely just chowed down on a large sucker or similar bait fish. Awesome video Matt ! When you coming down for some fishing in my neck of the woods?
Dude that video was awesome!!! Love watching u fish for muskie and giant fish like that that are also kinda exotic. Def should do more of that! You da man brah!!!
Another sweet video guys! Some good musky action on Salt Fork! I particularly love this video, this is my old stomping grounds. I've caught many musky out of Salt Fork. And there are some nice bass in there LOL! Wish the bass bite would have been better for you guys. Love the video! James you're freaking weather reports are awesome! Thank you for rocking the Buckeye! Looking forward to the next video
