In many cases it's easier and cheaper to commute across the forth bridges to Edinburgh rather than pay the sometimes extortionate rents or mortgages asked for in Edinburgh. Especially in the heart of the city. The housing and standard of living is also often seen as better in Fife and there are lots of affordable new-build houses as well as older/historic properties. Crossing the road bridge is free, Scotland has no toll bridges, and there is also regular Train and Bus services into Edinburgh.
