“We have a lot of young guys on our team... how they ride and how they’re doing is a reflection of our leadership.” - Justin Williams (now those are the words of a leader)
Yeah Justin and Cory are incredible people with incredible talent. If you're not following them, I'd start now. They are going to change the biking industry.
15:20 it's great to hear what goes through a mind of a winner - he talks minutes but it only took split second and he's made all these micro decisions while pulling crazy watts etc.
Good interview with Justin, you got him on roll and didn’t interject. Cool to hear his process. Great Job hanging with those guys it doesn’t get an faster.
Your videos are some of my favorites and I appreciate seeing the coverage on the william bros I’m from Belize and I’ve seen them race here and I think that all of you guys are great role models. Thanks for another great video and the motivation wish you all the best happy racing!
I have a second thought after watching the full video: On a course this fast, you should know that a breakaway isn’t going away! Save your energy, as a non-sprinter you should save every ounce you have. Also, with the team composition basically being KHS vs L36ION, the race is going to be too fast to go across the line! Either way, 19th is a great finish Brah!!! Super chill of Cory to answer some questions. I genuinely think you should start a podcast with all of the other Cali guys (Cory, Justin, Jeff, yourself, others?)! A+ man, cheers
You are an excellent racer and bike handler. I have followed Justin over the years and seen him and his team grow. I use to ride with them on the Montrose ride a few years back too. I’m an older guy (65 now) been riding the Montrose ride since it started as a member of the Montrose club back in 1976 at 19 years of age. That ride got to fast for me now. You have allot of potential in your strength and riding skills. I will keep following you, and look forward to your racing season in 2021 post Covid vaccine. Be safe for now and train hard.
Loved the post with the introspection of what entering a race such as that would feel like. Fear is such a paralyzing or motivating emotion. Great interviews as well. You asked fantastic questions of Cory and Justin.
Dude, that was a killer day at the Millikan Crit. You got lucky because you had a dry course and there were more people out watching. At 1:35, that was me with my girlfriend sitting on the curb on your left watching guys. I was racing 45+ Masters category in the rain just a couple of hours earlier. You guys were rockin' it!!
Great racing and commentary. You are absolutely right that what separates genuine racing from wannabes, is the average speed of the pack. The higher it is, the less likely attacks succeed. The idea of racing is to get an advantage on the competition. it gets really hard to get an advantage, when the average speed is on most rider's threshold power.
This was really cool. I remember racing crits when I was young and it was always nerve racking and difficult. Speeds were always fast. Love the interview at the end with Justin, he is very knowledgeable with team tactics.
That’s awesome that u races street bike. I currently race expert class as well as motocross and my number is 101 as well. Picked up cycling as training for racing and I absolutely felt in love with it and been going pretty hard at it for the past 5 months or so.
Dude great job on every level with this vlog! I was hoping you talk about some of the ladies that was in the race. Most of them was dropping a few guys.
Totally! I was behind the women from Canyon in the last few laps and it was so crazy how she was holding her own. But anytime I have mentioned anything about gender I get hammered. If I said, look at this woman crush, she's amazing...there would be a mob of people pissed that I had to bring gender into. Tip toeing on egg shells with that stuff so I just left it out.
@@TheVCAdventures I've seen women in the field (long ponytail from the helmet, so assuming?) in the Legion vids, but I can never find info on who, why, etc.?!? REALLY want to know so I can check out their stuff and support as well. What race was this, btw? They call "everything" so-cal crit race! lol You still were a beast in this one!
I liked bikes as a kid. But, I really wanted to race dirt bikes. I grew up in So Cal. I started racing desert races, and did really good. Then, when I was 15, I started racing motocross. Then, my team mate died in a crash. I figured bike rang would be safer. I started training as a senior in high school. I joined a club, the Montrose Cycle Club. I started by racing crits. It was so much fun! Then, I started racing on the track, as a way to improve my sprint. That really helped, and I started winning more races.
I love your vids bro, they have such a great vibe. I often find myself identified with what you say. People like you make cycling great. Vegan Cyclist fan, yuuuh!
Justin will make an amazing DS once he's ready to hang up his wheels - Elevate KHS tries to "go DQS" in order to counter Legion, and he STILL figures out the correct tactical maneuvers to outplay them!
Tyler, this is an awesome video compilation with the Cory/Justin interviews, Ray edit, inserts,.. This will surely be a tens of thousands of views video.
That was awesome! The interview at the end was worth the watch. It is so good to see some black guys out there racing. Where I cycle, I always get looked at like I'm a unicorn! LOL, I don't mind...I'm just here for the ride!
i relate to that feeling of not belonging... its important to feel you belong and have the acceptance of your peers, even if its only a little bit... I remember having that feeling first starting and then i just put it on the shelf... but even though i got on with it, i never felt accepted... years later, my last year racing one of the OG's from when i first got into it was at a race just watching and i happened to chat with him at a bar that evening when he said to me "you have earned your place"... felt good, even though i looked past that feeling for a long time it was still there a bit...
Loved this video. When I moved from Houston to Denver 18 years ago, I went from "Look at me, hot stuff, 2x State Cat. 3 Crit Champ" to "I have no business racing my bicycle," and I ultimately took 10 years off from racing. Now, part of that was that we had small kids and I needed to be a Daddy, but when I finally got back into racing, I realized that what was holding me back was fear: "I don't belong here because there are soooo many strong dudes." But you know what? Those dudes are just other bike racers like me, and if I'm smart about it, I can be competitive, or at least not embarrass myself. Last year I did Tulsa Tough (ua-cam.com/video/GaPRXs42xoU/v-deo.html) and Masters Road Nats for the first time. I got my ass handed to me...with prejudice. However, what keeps me going is that riding a bike fast, with strong, smooth guys whom I trust, is the biggest thrill in the world. Winning is nice, but just being part of The Show is pretty damned awesome. Keep it up!
Well done, super result! I never rode a Criterium - only "normal" amateur races, such as Gottingen and Munster (Münster, the city, is germanys Walhalla of Road Racing) Greetings from over the sea! ;-)

Great story, great riding, great people, great excuses, great racing footage, great! And I think it‘s kind of normal to shit your pants when showing up to a race like that for the first time 😜👌 But when you get to the point where you can start enjoying it, almost nothing beats being surrounded by the „best“ around Great interviews, too 👍🏻
I don't know if I'll change my mind in the future, but I only take part in ITTs. The reason is as Tyler mentioned, safety. One aggressive idiot can ruin your future. I was punched on my shoulder in one race and crashed, luckily it was an ascent so lower speed helped. Things would go worse, so never ever a crit or a fondo.
Dude great vlog. Great commentary, the Williams brothers wow what smart racing. Congrats to them and you. Enjoyed every minute of this. Awesome 2 minute ending segment very well done. Who did that edit?

It is almost not a crit without a narrow hairpin pedal dragging turn with a stop sign, giant curb, and fire hydrant on the exit with maybe one bail of hay for safety.
About 18:50 in on replay, appears Justin veered rightward in the sprint, making contact w/ the rider who had to readjust his center of mass & begin soft pedaling. Seems he lost by virtue of lacking instant replay for the judges at the time. I have no idea if he filed a protest, if even that would have done any good. I guess UCI rules are null here.
Dude, they changed the date for the Grants Tomb crit (for your kid to race) here in NY from early March to June 27...weather should be better. It’s gonna be awesome
not to sure how serious he was about saying its the best pro team in the conti US scene, but if hes right that just goes to show how hard those dudes work and how insane fast they are. Also i think it comes down to their team chemistry. which seems to be off the charts with multiple respectable leaders. Also, nice ride dude thats impressive and crits scare the shit out of me too lmao.
raced those crits back in the day. gotta be able to go when the right break goes. then it was 30+mph, 4-8 rider deep pace line, full out. unreal fast. then if you get tossed or break is caught. gotta recover at 25-30mph. painful....sure glad a lot of those pro/cat1 dudes were lit up on drugs. made me feel a bit better to hang with them clean.
I started doing veg only 8 weeks ago and although i dont bike much i do lift. Ive never felt stronger. Also i do it fasted in the morning after last nights dinner but i feel great. Biking sucks after going ham on squats fyi hahaha
I used to race in Socal during the 90s and occasionally raced in Norcal. Question: when did Norcal crits get small? The narrarator spoke of the Norcal crits only having 10 to 20 riders. What happened up there?
I just started watching TVC. Seems like every video is Tyler loading 7000lbs of camera gear and tofu onto his bike. Messing with his camera equipment the 1st few laps. Saying how he doesn't belong in the race with world class cyclists. Then getting top 10. You ARE the one Neo.
"He tickled the hole...there is not a whole lot of analazation.." omg best play by play recap
haha "a hole lot"
The choice of words are Hillarious!
If someone can tickle the whole, someone is wearing the wrong shorts.
I knew I'll find this connection in the comment section XDD
what amazes me is how humble the Williams brothers are, true class acts!
They are sisters
lol, let's make sure to mention KHS is so much stronger than them.... humble, diverse, low key *sarcasm*

Yeah Justin and Cory are incredible people with incredible talent. If you're not following them, I'd start now. They are going to change the biking industry.
They look like great sportsman and competitive brothers indeed
I love how everyone is using high end aero kit, and then the fastest guy just slams a GoPro on top of his helmet, right out in the wind.
because they are the Williams
It's right up there with shaving legs and not arms or having a beard and/or long hair.
They're on the most PEDs
The aero benefit in a crit using aero bikes is a bit overhyped. You spend most of the time drafting.
Mark Connelly Very true, still helps a bit though
Lol that "I'm in danger" hit me in the feels.

@Will Johnson I think there is at least one...check to the right of the vid at 18:04. Canyon/SRAM outfit. Women's pro team.

Super interesting interview on the methodical strategizing, planning and execution by their squad.
