This incredible song is probably the most graphic depiction of a woman's pure strength of character I have ever experienced. She just will not give in no matter what. My research indicates that this version is a blend of two almost identical songs one British ( Prince Heathen is probably a Viking) and a Romanian/Transylvanian version ( Prince Heathen is an invading Turkish warrior). It's incredibly powerful either way.
Devastating. So. Violets can't bloom on the window pane and roses grow on the kitchen floor, right? She hasn't changed her mind, just found a more poetic way of expressing it. Or am I missing the point somehow?

I love it too. It's one of the most graphic, harrowing examples of a woman's pure strength of character I have ever heard.
Frankie Armstrong is a story teller of the highest degree. Love her work. This is from the collection of Francis James Child.
