The other aspect of season 3 that makes it the best is the outstanding supporting cast from the other members of Danny’s team as well as characters like McAndrew, Fairbank, Nash, and Sam- they made that season even more believable and interesting
3>2>1>5>4>6 I said during series 4 and 5 that this show would never hit the heights of S3 again. For me that was a peak in British TV drama that I doubt I will ever witness again in my lifetime. Sensational.
Great video! Pretty much spot on with my rankings..........I would just swap seasons 4 & 6 around in the bottom two places. Season 6 had the potential to be in the top three up until the last two 'disappointing' episodes.
Having seen it all twice my list goes Season 4 (7/10) good Season 6 (8/10) great Season 2 (8/10) great Season 1 (9/10) amazing Season 5 (9/10) amazing Season 3 (9/10) amazing Their isn't really a bad season or episode, for me season 5 particularly is amazing as you get 2 completely different experiences once knowing all the answers, and I find the flaws of the season are easy to overlook now that some time has passed, everything feels like it has a reason. Controversially I find season 2 to be overrated, it's a soiled experience but introducing the culprits to the ambush at the same time as the revelation could be seen as a flaw which I don't see people bring up and that's a major part of the plot but yeah, I like the ending of season 6 but wish we had an extra 30 minutes to flesh out Ian Buckals a bit but I ultimately agree with Jed on that one
Great video Clem. Love the work. Interesting list. Now for me; I would rank it this way (Worst to Best) Series 4 Series 5 Series 6 Series 1 Series 2 Series 3 Have a lovely day sir.
I've watched all of this recently for the first time, I genuinely enjoyed 4, kept me guessing the whole time. I'm a bit obsessed with 6 although the end was not what I'd imagined, I didn’t love 1, but I'd love to watch it again and spot everything I missed the first time. 3 was the best, Denton returning was brilliant and it wasn't til the end you realised her goals. Amazing TV, not to mention the chase.
From good to great (because let's be real, worst isn't a good word for anything LoD) - Season 4 - Season 1 - Season 6 - Season 5 - Season 2 - Season 3 I absolutely loved the seasons that got more personal with the main three (season 3 with a Steve glass box and season 5 with a Ted glass box), and anything with Lindsay Denton is top notch. So my top 3 is easy. For the rest; the camera work in season one was really off putting for me, and Tony Gates never truly gelled for me as a "baddy". I prefer the intense episodes 3-6 of season 6 over anything in season one. I agree with your assessment of season 4, it's great, but doesn't have a good 're-watch' quality.
Season 2 and 3 are some of the best seasons of television I've ever seen. Season 3 pips 2 to number 1 spot for the ending, for constantly cranking up the suspense with Dot, and for killing who we thought would be the main lead right at the start of the season. Next I'd put season 5. It's where the show started to get slightly outlandish and slightly too "conspiracy-esque" but I loved Corbett as a character, and especially his reveal as the UCO instead of Lisa. A lot of tension in the season and also seriously put Ted into the spotlight, showing that even the golden boy of anti-corruption has a shade of grey to him. Next comes season 1. Great premise and obviously the building block for the show. The reason 5 beats it for me is that season 1 has got better due to how good the show it at weaving it into everything - Jackie Laverty, Ryan, Tommy, the OCG etc. I don't think it would be quite as good in the grand scheme of things if later seasons hadn't built on it as well as they did. Still awesome though. Then comes 6. People will focus on the last episode, but for me the tension was so high every week. The theories, discussions etc on social media were amazing and there was such a buzz about the season. The ending isn't what everyone wanted, but I think it makes sense. However, it did leave some questions opened, and I thought the way it was wrapped up had some major pacing issues. Then we come onto season 4, which is the worst season in my opinion. I actually think it's a very good season, but for me there's nothing memorable about Roz Huntley, and I didn't really sympathise with her. Every other guest lead has had a character that is so complex and interesting, and shows how everyone can be morally grey, which I love. With all of them, I may not have agreed with what they were doing, but I could completely see why they thought they were doing the right thing and that was incredible. With Roz though, I didn't get that - I thought she was just being an idiot, particularly with her arm. So the lack of a great leading character is a major problem for me. There's also the fact that, other than bits of character development for Steve and the introduction of Jimmy Lakewell, I can't think of any important things we learn in the season. It doesn't move the story on. We already know about balaclava men in season 1, when Steve is attacked by multiple men in balaclavas before having his hand put in a vice. And we already knew Hilton was dodgy in some way, and I think his arc could have easily been amalgamated into the beginning of S5. Think of it like this - if you were to watch S1-3, skip 4 and move onto 5, there wouldn't be anything of note, other than Steve's back, that you wouldn't understand, and that's poor for me. Still a great watch, but comfortably the worst in my opinion. So my order, best to worst, is 3, 2, 5, 1, 6, 4.
Would you consider doing a whole video about the foreshadowing done, clues that could theoretically be put together on a first watch to resolve each season's mystery? I think it would be super interesting.
My ranking is pretty much the same as yours. 4 & 6 are roughly about the same for me as I feel season 4 is kind of sluggish throughout but has a fantastic finale, while season 6 is the opposite, great throughout until the finale episode.
I agree with your ranking completely. I'm rewatching the show with my sister who hasn't seen the show before and Dot left his post 15 min early in season 1 and it's lmao... bruuuh what was just lazy incompetence the first time round all the more sinister now. Rewatch value is so important.
5, 6, 4, 1, 2, 3 would be my order. The endings to S5 and S6 make them both comfortably the worst to me. Not wrapping up many of the open plot holes and leaving more questions than answers. The writing quality dropped and just tried to open many more plotlines without closing previous ones. I didn't really care for Huntley's character and feel indifferent about S4. I think it's the best of the "bad" series. S1 was really solid and a great introduction to the likes of Gates, Tommy and Ryan (the latter two who continued to play big roles in later series). The shock of Laverty's brutal killing really set the tone for the show. S2 was very good; resolving part of the Hunter storyline, further developing Dot's character and introducing us to Denton. S3 will always be the best though. Danny, Lindsey and Dot are 3 of (if not THE 3) best characters ever in the show and to have all 3 of them developed further and eventually killed all in the same series was incredible writing. It's amazing how much of an impact Danny's character made in the show despite appearing for less than 60 minutes and he was easily my favourite character
Another great video. I'd rank series 5 higher, I know the more code ending wasn't great but it may be the most watchable as a standalone series, series 3 is better overall though. I think Series 6 was phenomenal for the most part but start and end let it down a touch. I'd go: 3 5 2 6 1 4 The Ros character didn't captivate in my opinion
I think I’d rank them the same. All of them were good and all had some great moments. But 2 and 3 were definitely the best - helped of course by Dot and Lindsay both being such compelling characters.
3>2>5>1>6>4 It's hard to order 1 and 5 for me but I do think 5 was strong after how disappointed I was by series 4. 2 and 3 are just amazing, I love Lindsay's storyline in particular. I didn't think 6 was that bad or the H reveal but I think the way it was done could've been better
I think season 6 was really good up until the ending. I didn’t mind the slow first episode considering we got seven episodes instead of six. First episode was slow sure but if we rewatched them all at once, it set the series up nicely. Introducing Buckles at the senior investigator, terry who we’d seen before as the fall guy etc. But yer, can’t beat first three seasons really.
I'd say from worst to best Season 6, Season 2 (This is probably unpopular but I'm not a fan of the back and forth with Denton and Georgia's death felt completely unnecessary) Season 1 Season 5 Season 4 Season 3
Agree apart from I just thought 4 was worse than 6. Linked balaclava man arc and Huntley turning against her husband but her team was very forgettable and the exploitation of a vulnerable suspect worked better with Terry Boyle.
3 > 1 > 2 > 5 > 6 > 4 The first 3 seasons were my all time favourite, season 4 was a bit uninteresting for me but season 6 was not as bad as everyone said, it just had a disappointing ending
Looks like a lot of differences of opinion but most seem to agree 4 was the worst whereas I enjoyed that series very much and provided one of the highlights of all 6 series.
@@ClemsContent I have not re-watched any so my comment is based on first view only but after discussing with a friend he said I don’t need to rewatch as he was quizzing me about old characters cropped up from S6 so it was very much who is Gates? Who is Tommy? Who is Jackie? It came in handy being able to visualise older characters including Mr Aston Villa himself (Holte End)
Are we the same person lol that's also my ranking, I assumed my ranking would be controversial but I'm glad I'm not the only one who feels this way, love LOD me

Last time I was this early line of duty had a good ending
Just finished watching season 3 for the first time, and WOW it is good.
Best season 100%

Season 6 could have been spectacular the way it was heading mid-season. I just wish the ending had lived up to expectation.
Having seen it all twice my list goes
Season 4 (7/10) good
Season 6 (8/10) great
Season 2 (8/10) great
