  • Recorded at The Spoke & Rim, University of Western Ontario in the autumn of 1980. The full show is about 90 minutes but this is all I have of it. I don't know the setlist so have put the songs in arbitrary order. If anyone can clue me into the real order please add a comment.
Free from the constraints of more typical commercial broadcasts, this show features quite a bit of banter between songs.

Not only did Frankie have an amazing voice, but an electric energy that he brought on stage as an entertainer. I would often be mesmerized by his stage presence wondering what would unravel that night. I loved his attitude. So grateful to have them and to share moments. It was such a great scene back then. There were no hang ups just raw talent and loads of fun.

I followed them right from the beginning. I used to go watch them at the Horseshoe. I talked to Frankie on several occasions before his set. What a great singer and musicians. Unique talent!

And I enjoyed them rockin and rolling kicking ass with their tunes in 79 at the Picadilly Tube in good ole downtown Toronto. Late high school era, where I compared them to the Ramones!!!

I saw them and Long John Baldry at the Pic once. Toronto was an amazing city back then. There was so much to do and great live music. Can’t wait for the 50th Anniversary. I’ll feel like a teenager again.

I recall standing on the radiators with a buddy at the Horseshoe chanting for an encore "head head! head!!", while smashing our beloved stubbies against the wall.

I saw them play in a basement in east TO one night about 1985. A low ceiling with an assortment of furniture pushed to the walls to make room for everyone. It was an intense experience for this kid at the time. You just knew mayhem could break out at anytime. I really enjoyed their music. I saw them play in Nanaimo on their last cross Canada tour too. Frankie was sick then I could tell, swigging beer and spitting it out in front of the drum kit between every song. What a great band.

Wish I could have seen these guys perform more often as they really had it together and were so under appreciated. Frankie was just a bundle of laughter for the audience. Man Gordie sure could play a guitar. So sad that only Steve made it this far, but I guess Dave came back whom Frankie replaced at the very beginning of Teenage Head. Always great listening to this important band of my youth.

This was recorded live at the Spoke & Rim Tavern, Western University 2/18/1981 and aired live over the airwaves, profanity and all.
That's not Gord on guitar.....Jimmy Huff is filling in as Gord was still recovering from the vehicle accident.
Here's the setlist as it aired:
    Brand New Cadillac,
    Picture My Face,
    Little Boxes,
    Let's Shake,
    Get Off My Back,
    Slow Down,
    Those THings You Do,
    Take It,
    Round & Round,
    Some Kinda Fun,
    Kissing The Carpet
    Lucy Potato,
    20 Flight Rock,
    Something Else,
    Come On Everybody,
    Infected,
    Disgusteen,
    Wild One,
    Let's Shake,
A few of the tracks appeared on the vinyl bootleg King St Teddy Boys. Pointed Sticks opened the show, don't believe they were aired on CHRW.

My boyfriend at the time came in his top down Corvette to pick me up. We were cruising on the QEW going to Ontario Place. We were a little late so we got there only to see a massive police presence. We were told turn around and go back. We were pissed to miss that show.

This might have been recorded in London but the photo is from atop of Jackson Square, Hamilton. They had free concerts on the roof for a few summers in the 80s

I was at that one at 17 years old... Someone nailed Frankie in the head with an orange. Before the song, he took a bite out of an orange, then slammed his fist into it, spraying a bit of juice into the front rows - a punkish thing to do. Then he threw it into the crowd. Then twenty seconds into the song, the orange came sailing through the air and into Frankie's face. ... Or maybe it was Gordie's face... but it was someone's for sure. That much is clear.

There’s unequivocally no doubt in my mind that they would have made it big in the USA despite the talent. They were unique and had their own style. That said, happy to have a great Canadian band.

I’m guessing this was the temporary guitarist Dave Bendeth playing? Doesn’t sound like classic Gord - I know it was around this time Gord was healing a broken back. Excellent recording thanks

Thank you! I was wondering why the leads were flashier than usual. Dave does a great job duplicating Gord's pulverizing guitar sound and driving rhythms. Glad Gord was able to rejoin the band, though its a shame how the accident knocked the burgeoning band career for a loop.

    • @markmiller7914
      @markmiller7914 3 роки тому +1

Dave could play guitar better, however, he didn't have the rhythm of the band and the band always sounded off with him. Gord's sound worked well with the band. This whole concert sounds a little off...the chemistry was not there.
